Just got my npvr system going and what a nice thing it is.
A couple of things I thought might be candidates for the wishlist....
- One for fat fingered numbnuts like myself..... when you are watching tv from the buffer (ie you are in 'live tv' and have wound it back a bit) it would be nice if there was an 'Are you sure?' style popup when you try to change channels. At present npvr will obediently change channels without hesitation and the buffer is in the bit bucket. Doh!
- Still on the subject of the live tv buffer.... would it be a good idea to have a small housekeeping function in npvr where it cleared out the buffer directory? It works perfectly as is but when npvr is running with other applications on a htpc, depending on your implementation, if you exit 'live tv' in a less than graceful fashion to run another app then the live tv buffer directory starts to fill with junk.
- A concatenated recording directory would be great. I have a nas that's not always up. It would be very nice if I could specify a directory on my nas ahead of a local directory. If the nas is up use that, otherwise use the local directory. For some folks the other way around could be good... eg if less than x% remains on my local drive use the network drive?
I just attempted to get my really old WinTV-GO card to work with NPVR. After several tirations I've come to
the conclusion that it isn't going to work so I'll wait for the HDV-1600 I've ordered.
In the mean time I uninstalled the NPVR kit and reinstalled the old WinTV software. In the process I discovered that the NPVR uninstall removed all the directories and the software very well. HOWEVER it left
the NPVR service in the registry, in a stopped state, and left it configured as automatic. This should be corrected as it may cause strange errors in future installls. I'll manually removed it for now (as soon as I remember the @#$% command).
Been using gb-pvr for years and loving it.. now I gotta relearn everything with npvr, oh well that's computer stuff ain't it
Apparently, I am missing the obvious, but I can't find out how to scan in my Dish Network channels. I have a Hauppauge 1600, and the digital over the air channel scan in, but when I scan in the analog receiver, I only get the generic "analog channel 3". The scan did attempt to change the channels on my dish receiver (well, from 2-158) using the ir blaster.
The WinTV 7 app from Hauppauge does recognize the Dish Network channels. So, what am I doing wrong, or not doing that I am supposed to do?
I know nothing about mobile phones. All I want to do is make/receive calls and send the odd text. Thats all I do and all I want it to do.
The last phone I had (alcatel AME408 22 quid 2 years ago from ASDA) did everything I needed it to. It also had one great feature (far better than all the rubbish that came on the expensive phones I've had in the past) in that it was charged via a mini USB port. Which meant I could use a generic USB cable to charge it. I use such cables at home, at work, in my car and also in the aeroplane so it was quite handy.
Anyway Its broken and I've been miss sold a replacement that I was told used a mini usb port to charge when it doesn't it uses a micro USB port to charge.
Could anybody recommend a hand phone thats dead basic and uses a mini usb to charge it? and I would rather buy brand new instead of 2nd hand of ebay
I was wondering if it would be possible to add another element to the horizontal menu xml. Currently there are 3 elements that I am aware of that I can use, ButtonBackground, MenuButton and VideoInset. I had cheated and used the ButtonBackground to display the N logo on the main page but this causes problems with the mouse right clicking. Would it be possilbe to add either the TaskImage or Cutaway elements (or something else) like in the vertical menu xml. Thanks.
I am new to npvr, but am familiar with SageTV. I had a WHS v1 install and win7 workstations for SageTV.
My server primary drive decided to die so since I was going to have to rebuild anyways I figure this is the perfect chance to upgrade hardware etc and switch to npvr.
So I have been working on this for a few days now and I have noticed a few things.. and need some help getting some things running.
1st thing: NPVR is very slow to load or do anything with compared to SageTV, the primary server is a e2200 and has 8 TB of storage, running windows home server 2011. I did notice running the latest patchs for npvr is that npvr spikes to 50% cpu when IE is open and IE also spikes to 50% cpu causing a lockup condition. I am thinking this is because I am using the onboard video card that does not fully support dx9. one of my win7 workstations has a newer ati radeon hd 42xx series and it does not seem to behave this way. (that I have noticed yet).
2nd: My cable provider is Shaw and I have STB's down at the server, previously I used Exemultituner and HIP to control the boxes, I noticed in the device config I can send command to an external source, but what is actually being passed by npvr? exemultituner did a pause, channel, device since I have 2 Win-TV-PVR150's using composite.
3rd: for some reason I have yet to get the ehome infrared usb-uirt device working with NPVR, this may also be a windows home server 2011 issues, not sure yet. :confused:
4th: would be nice to have a channel preview in the device config area so you can make sure channels are being seen, most of the time the channel is coming back as garbled when I am viewing or it is choppy, or missing blockes almost like a rendering issues, does this on the server and on the workstation. my lan is running 1GB Full Duplex, so network speed is not an issue.
I have installed the codec pack from saf, but again because this is all win64 stuff not sure if something else is causing the issues.
I think my wife is starting to get annoyed :mad: with me playing with this setup and just wants to watch TV again.. so I need some help
Is it best to install as admin, then apply most recent cumulative patch? Or start and setup program then patch.. Have previously uninstalled 2.03 already and was getting no communication recorder error although channels scanned. Thanks
I have seen this phenomena several times. It happens at the time between one recording finishing and the next recording starting when the system is set to sleep after a period of inactivity.
In the most recent example:
Recording A was scheduled to finish at 23:15 (23-08-2011)
There was 3 minutes of padding on the recording, taking the time up to 23:18
Windows 7 is set to sleep after 5 Minutes, so does so at 23:23
Recording B was scheduled to start at 23:25
Normally the system will come out of sleep 4 minutes before next recording (Includes 2 mins of pre padding), which would be 23:21, but at this time power is already on from the previous recording and in the process of shutting down.
The system shuts down at 23:23 and misses the next recording.
If I lengthen the sleep period to 10 mins, it would affect a recording starting 15 mins later. As recordings are usually scheduled in 5 minute increments I could set the system time out to 8 minutes, which might work, as long as I use the same padding!

Does anyone know how to change some of the functionality of the buttons on an RC6 MCE Style remote control (came with the PVR-2250). The power button launches wintv7 and the windows button launches MCE. I have the same remote on a second box that came with the Pinanncle PCTV remote control kit and the power button there maps to "wake up/sleep" power feature of windows. I know the one from the PVR-2250 is going through the Hauppauge IR software, but what is the PCTV remote using (no special software installed) that it's doing something different? Where can I configure the PVR-2250 remote to behave the same way? I think it's in IRRemote.ini but I don't know the syntax.
