Sorry to bring up the right-click again...
Posted by: TimA-C - 2011-08-23, 06:53 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (22)

Hi sub, thought I'd try the latest version of NPVR and see if it could tempt me away from the old GB-PVR that I'm still using, and there are still a few things that are just about holding me back.

1. When I'm sitting at the PC I still prefer to use the mouse right-click to come out of whatever I'm doing and go back a level. If I untick the 'Context Menu on right mouse button' option then I cannot get back into the settings menu without modifying the config.xml file (when I can remember where it lives these days! Smile ). I know I brought this up once before and was told that clicking on the 'n' icon in the top-left corner of the nPVR window I'd see the 'Settings' option or I could right-click on the nPVR icon in the taskbar and get to the Settings window. sadly neither of these has ever worked for me. If I click on the icon top-left of the window I just get the standard windows options (Restore, Move, Size, Minimize, Maximize, and Close) and if I right-click on the nPVR tray icon I get a pop-up menu with "Show Status, Start N-PVR, Restart Recording Service, and Exit" as options, and if I double left-click on the tray icon then I get the device status window.

Please either give an option to have "Settings" as menu option or stick it in the toolbar at the top of most screens or even just a keyboard short-cut would be appreciated.

2. In GB-PVR when watching a video you used to be able to click on the progress bar at the top of the screen (which appeared when you moved the mouse over the GB-PVR window) and jump to wherever you clicked on the bar. (i.e. click halfway along the bar and you'd jump to around halfway through the video.) I know N-PVR asks if you want to resume watching from where you left off, but that just doesn't work if someone else has come along and watched the same recording since you stopped watching it, and skipping through a 2 hour+ film using either the keyboard or remote is just painfully slow.

3. I use GB-PVR/N-PVR on a second screen and in order to give N-PVR the focus you often have to click somewhere on the screen. If the screen is the Main screen (TV Guide, Recordings, Live TV etc. at the bottom) then it doesn't matter where you click on the screen, it always activates whichever menu option is directly above or below where you clicked. It's not a big thing but it has gotten annoying as I always seem to click somewhere in line with the 'Exit' option . . .

One final query, in Gb-PVR I'm happily running with the 'Video Renderer' set as 'VMR9 Custom', and all the other 'Mpeg2 Playback' and 'Advanced Codec' options set to ffdshow video or audio decoders and the 'Audio Renderer' set to 'System Default' and it all works brilliantly. However, in N-PVR it doesn't matter which Video Renderer I use, I cannot get ffdshow to work as the MPeg2 Video decoder and play an MPeg2 .mpg or .ts file, I just get a black screen with audio which IS working through ffdshow. It works fine when playing back XVid files, flv files, mkv, and m2ts files. Strangely it works with vob files from a DVD which I thought were Mpeg2 but not with MPeg2 .mpg or .ts files. Again not a biggie as it works if I use one of the other decoders available (I usually use the 'Cyberlink Video Decoder (PDVD9)' one), just wondering why the difference?

I'm running an Intel C2Q with 32-bit Windows XP Home SP3, 4Gb RAM, plenty of disk space over 3 hard drives, nVidia GTS450 graphics card and the current reference drivers from nVidia, and Norton Internet Security 2011, N-PVR 2.1.5 and the latest cumulative patches from the sticky.

N-PVR seems to have impoved dramatically since v2.0.3 and I'm almost ready to switch, but the not being able to jump to any position in the video by clicking on the prograss bar is the real deal breaker as I'm sure I'd probably get used to the other niggles.

Anyway, keep up the good work and hope you're finding enough time to spend some quality time with the family as well as keeping all us grumpy old(ish) gits happy! Big Grin

  NPVR Client Lockup
Posted by: jcjefferies - 2011-08-23, 03:38 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

I have had two long standing client /server problems but have not reported it because both my XP server and client were very old hardware and the server has minor hardware problem. However I now have a new Vista server which avoids the DVBfix problems with XP and also a newer XP client.

Currently the main problem I have with NPVR is pressing “Esc” (Clear) on the remote to end playback on the client sometimes causes NPVR.exe to run at max. At first it seems to do nothing as the recording continues playing for about 20 seconds then locks up. I don’t yet know at what point the processor starts to run at max but the remote stops working after the initial press. This happened several times in the last few days but with the old setup happened less often. The client sees that Esc was pressed and saves position but does not quit. I have had the same happen once when “Pause” was pressed but never when skipping forward or back. The server seems to stop sending data when “Esc” is pressed on the client. Then when NPVR is killed on the client the server reports an “Unexpected exception in ClientConnectionHandler”.

Enclosed are server and client logs which dont seem to offer any clues. The event happened at 22:47:31 which is at the end of both logs.

Posted by: MixMan - 2011-08-23, 08:59 AM - Forum: NPVR Documentation - Replies (2)

The swedb.se domain that has been delivering XMLTV files is now delivering EPG data again. A new domain is also supplying the XMLTV data.

I will update below links if they are changing

New domain for EPG and XMLTV files is:
http://tvsajten.com/tv (online TV guide)

http://tv.swedb.se (Forum)

New XMLTV link
http://xmltv.tvsajten.com/xmltv/channels.xml.gz (new)
http://tv.swedb.se/xmltv/channels.xml.gz (old)

2011-09-12
Updated the tv_grab_se_swedb.conf with Sjuan and updated XMLTV link or use the attached file.
.\xmltv\.xmltv\tv_grab_se_swedb.conf

  Multiple problems(sorry!) NEWA
Posted by: fuzzweed - 2011-08-22, 10:55 PM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (10)

Hi, I seem to be having all sorts of problems getting the web admin to work since moving to NPVR....
1) If I change the username or password in the npvr settings page, it only seems to 'stick' if I reboot the whole PC. Can I some how just restart the web service to get it to accept any changes?
2) I can't log in from an external PC - I can get the login page so I know all the port forwarding is working correctly, but it insists that the password or user name is wrong every time. If I access the webadmin from a LAN PC I obviously bypass the login page , but if I click on the config page which does require a login I can use exactly the same saved user name and password that is being refused from the external PC
3) The config tab keeps disappearing. Sometimes it's there. Then it's not. Even backing up to a page where it was isn't a guarantee that it's still there !?!?

Have reinstalled latest version from wiki, plus one more recent patch to login2.aspx from one of the forum threads.

  Things missing from GBPVR
Posted by: djphatjive - 2011-08-21, 10:21 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

I just came back from a long 2 year hiatus from GBPVR to find this. I like how the new Next pvr looks but I see a lot of things missing from it. Are there plans to bring back auto conversion to DIVX and Comskip? I know there are addons. But I was wondering if plans are to integrate them into NPVR to access them from the settings menu like in GBPVR?

  Google search rankings

Dear all,

nice to see that already tapping NextPVR into google lists the new NextPVR website as number 3 Big Grin (number 1 & 2 still refer to the wiki)

I would hope within a few more weeks a google search will drive the new website to the top.

cheers everyone that helped to get this working! (and obviously top cheers to sub, who wrote the BEST PVR software there is and entrusted us with the website)

  DVB-S help. Again.
Posted by: stefan - 2011-08-21, 10:07 AM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

This post should probably be in a new thread, so I moved it.

Is the HVR-4400 still the preferred option? What other options are there? If I go down this route, I'm gonna need a solution where I can watch encrypted channels. I still need to figure out, though, if my card is paired with my box or not. Not sure how to find that out.

However, *if* I would go with this, what would I need? A HVR-4400, and a CI module? Is that it? I can't figure out how they are connected.

The other option I can think of is to go with the multidec solution. I still have, I think, and old phoenix smart card reader that I was playing with for trrying to decrypt dvb-t channels back in the days, but didn't quite have the patience to figure everything out. Would that work, you think?

I have two pci slots free, and at least one pci-e slot. Maybe one more, depending on how much place the card takes...

/Stefan

  Smooth Resume
Posted by: Petrovski - 2011-08-21, 09:32 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

When resume is pressed, audio from the start of the file is heard [video is blanked ok]. This does not happen with other players that I have tried. Should be muted until resume point reached and ready to play.
