I have had a problem for several weeks with my Vista NPVR server often crashing around 2AM since I bought a new twin USB tuner. The problem only seems to happen if a recording is being made while EPG update is running and I managed to catch the logs for the first time. To help diagnose the problem I am using my old Kworld UB 450-T which has never caused a problem as the first tuner and half of the Twin tuner UB499-2T(IT9135) as the second tuner with the other half disabled.

The UB450-T tuner recorded a programme 1:35 – 2:05 and although NPVR says the recording “Failed because record service was not running” it was recorded and is watchable to the end. NRecord.log has the start of recording but it should have finished at 2:08 with padding but NRecord seems to have died at 2:07. “Date Modified” for the file gives the time as 2:09

At 2:01 the enabled half of the new twin tuner starts EPG update but stops at 2:07 when NRecord must have crashed. In the morning NPVR was still “Recording” although the file was not modified after 2:09 and NRecord was not running. Restarting NPVR and the NPVR service got everything working but an unknown process was stopping the computer sleeping so a reboot was need.

NRecord .log is enclosed but NPVR.log has nothing but “Stopping Windows Screen Saver Starting “ every second from 1am to 4am. If there is only one tuner and it is set to do a recording around 2am is “EPG update” delayed or cancelled. Tonight another recording takes place around the same time as an EPG update, but because other recordings are being made before 2am the other tuner may do the EPG update this time so may give different results.

I'm getting choppy audio on my analog TV. HD is fine. I'm in the Northeast US on the local cable system.

If I'm watching a recording in the full video screen and I press "Info" on my MCE remote it takes me back to the recording list instead of showing the OSD timeline as I expected. If I then hit "Back" it goes to the main menu. From there, with a mouse I can click on the small video window at the top to return to the full screen video but I can't figure out how to get there with my remote??

I have some software that notifies me when an app crashes.
It occasionally pops up and says that NPVR has died.
At the time, nothing is happening - no recordings or anything, and NPVR is minimised.
Its no big issue, it restarts (in fact, sometimes, I recall it doesnt even go away).

Logs are attached.

I had a stable install of NPVR 2.03 on XP SP3 for several months and just recently encountered errors regarding the starting of the recording service. I decided to update to 2.15 and encountered problems with the install (NextPVR.exe -upgrade, NRecord.exe INSTALL). I followed the uninstall instructions found in the posts (deleting program file dir, public dir, scrubbing registry), stripped back the .net installs, reinstalled .net 2.0 and the prerequisites. Install of 2.15 went well. Rebooted and the recording service and Ntray start. I launched NPVR and went to settings. Clicking on Devices throws an unhandled exception and the Device Setup button does not bring up its screen. Same thing happens when I select Channels. All other setting options bring up their screens. The logs and error messages are attached. Any thoughts? Am I just missing something? I've repeated this uninstall/reinstall process 3 times with the same result.

I searched the forums and can't find a answer so here goes: I often record races and ball games and add post padding for 60 to 120min in case of rain delays, extra innings, overtime etc. I'm running into problems with overlapping recordings failing. For example, say game A is scheduled for 1pm to 3pm. If I add 2 hours post padding, then the recording is 1pm to 5pm. The problem is in both NEWA and NPVR it still shows as just 1pm to 3pm, the post padding isn't added on the displayed time. If I then schedule another recording for say 4pm to 5pm I get a failed recording as the tuner is still in use.

The problem is, the conflict isn't detected until it actually craps out due to the tuner being in use. I know, keep track of your recordings stupid... the problem is when the other half schedules something and I don't catch it. That leads to discord in the household and if she ain't happy, nobodies happy!

So, my question is, is there some way to actually see the full record start/stop times? It would be nice if NPVR would automatically detect the conflicts, but I'd be happy with just being able to see the full recording times. I know I could do a manual recording, but doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose?

I'm trying to launch/control NPVR with Eventghost. I'm running into a few strange issues (in Win7):

1) If I use "Start Program" in Eventghost NPVR is launched but for some reason does not get focus. Other programs launched in this way seem to get focus properly.

2) If I do a "Bring To Front" in Eventghost for the NPVR window it does get focus but the NPVR window is blanked/blacked out until I press the down/up arrow?

Any ideas? Thanks.

I've seen the recording service stop sometimes, and finally I have some logs. It looks like it stopped after updating the EPG.
