  2.2.6 and DCR-2650
Posted by: wtg - 2011-08-27, 09:35 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (17)

When the system has both an HDHR and a 2650, the 2650 still shows up in the device list with 4 tuners - 2 with its correct device id and 2 with the device id of the HDHR.

Also, but unrelated, from the channel list right-clicking and selecting details does nothing. Clicking the details button works fine, but the context menu does nothing.

Finally, from the Bulk Map screen I'm unable to actually map a channel to my XMLTV source. I can select XMLTV but I can't actually do the channel mapping from here - no drop-down. It did used to work from here, right?

  Question about patches and upgrades
Posted by: lost@c - 2011-08-27, 09:14 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

I had some issues with 2.1.4 and 2.1.5 and due to time restraints went back to 2.0.3 which was pretty much ok rather than apply patches etc. and troubleshoot through it.

I'm keen to now upgrade to 2.2.6. Can I assume that this new version contains all those patches that applied to earlier versions or do I need apply these before upgrading?

Thanks

2.2.6 - crashing when I skip in any recording
Posted by: johnsonx42 - 2011-08-27, 08:32 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (24)

On the upside the skipping in this release is really fast; skipping to I-Frames makes a definite difference here.

On the downside, NextPVR.exe is crashing when I skip; not every time, but pretty frequently. I've attached logs, but not much interesting there. Here's the first crash from the Windows Application Event Log:

Code:

Setting Up QAM Cable With NPVR and Motorola DCT700 STB
Posted by: Greg Smith - 2011-08-27, 08:00 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (25)

I'm in Canada (Shaw Cable), where the QAM channels are encrypted, necessitating the use of the Motorola DCT700 STB. I have ordered one of them from my cable company for use with NPVR. With analogue, I've been using Schedules Direct as the EPG. When I'm up and running with the DCT700 and my Hauppauge HVR-1950 and NPVR, will I still be able to use Schedules Direct? From what I understand, I'll have to set up the DCT700 as a separate channel in NPVR much like I would a VCR, hook it into the HVR-1950 using RCA cables, and then tune the STB to the channel I want to record for the duration of the program. That would seem to indicate that Schedules Direct would be rendered useless, since it would be recording the separate channel of the STB and not the channel of the tuner.

Also, when I record a program in NPVR with the Hauppauge HVR-1950 with the DCT700, is the resulting file truly digital? There seems to be conflicting information around the Internet as to what the DCT700 actually does. I've read that it takes the digital signal and converts it back into analogue, and if that is the case, the file would be analogue. Lastly, how easy is it to set up the HVR-1950 and DCT700 with NPVR with QAM? I'm still using GB-PVR, and found it impossible to set up NPVR with analogue, so I went back to GB-PVR. Once I get the DCT700 next week, I want the QAM to be using NPVR for recording.

It should be noted that patches are listed generally in chronological order, but not perfectly so. The thread a given patch is posted in may contain additional information on exactly what a given patch was intended to do, and may also contain information on additional settings required if you wish to use the functionality provided (example: patch 37). Finally, not all patches actually fix what they are supposed to, but the changes usually remain in the file going forward, so they are listed as part of the update history.

Installation Notes These "patches" are simply replacement files for the existing NPVR program files. You should extract them and copy them over the existing files; the default directory is C:\Program Files\NPVR. If you are running Vista or 7 and have UAC enabled, you will likely need to do this from an elevated command prompt or explorer window. To get an elevated explorer window, go to All Programs->Accessories, right-click on Windows Explorer and select "Run as Administrator". Now, within that explorer window only, you are the Administrator.

Before installing patches, you must exit NextPVR.exe, shutdown the NPVR Recording Service and close the NPVR Tray Icon (using the "Stop NPVR Service" icon accomplishes both).

I recommend that you restart your system after installing patches. I've seen numerous cases where the Recording Service is not able to restart properly due to a socket error. You can check your NRecord.log to see whether it did or not, or just reboot to be safe.

  2.2.6 available (28th August)
Posted by: sub - 2011-08-27, 06:21 PM - Forum: NextPVR Announcements - Replies (41)

You can download 2.2.6 from http://www.gbpvr.com/NPVRSetup_2_2_6.exe.

This is a relatively small release, but there is a few things I wanted to get into the hands of users now.

If you're new to NextPVR, see the list of pre-requisite software at: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...requisites (directx runtime, visual c++ runtime etc). If you're upgrading from an earlier build, you need to make sure you stop the NPVR software before installing.

Please post any support issues in the support forum.

From the change log:

Quote:- added support for 'copy-freely' cablecard channels with Hauppauge DCR-2650 and HDHomeRun Prime. (Need to have the SD software from http://www.silicondust.com/support/hdhomerun/downloads/ installed).
- improved handling when switching to channels that were either encrypted or off-air.
- added a new method for external apps to easily watch live tv streams from NextPVR. For example, on a client machine with VLC, open a network connection to http://<server>:8866/live?channel=2 to watch channel 2.
- fixed a problem with multiple Colossus device in the one machine
- fixed an incorrect on screen message shown when auto commercial skipping is toggled off then back on.
- added ability for skins to draw lines using skin statements like <Line location1="0,0" location2="100,50" color="Blue" width="5"/>
- fixed a bug where recordings moved to another device at recording time could trying using the old device's tuning info (which can be wrong when devices have the same channel via different inputs, or different device types.
- fixed a bug where NScriptHelper.exe wasnt working on 64bit machines.
- fixed a crash that was happening for some users when watching live tv with a Colossus device
- fixed a scanning issue with some ATSC/QAM channels
- added a popup for selecting which subtitle stream to view
- added a class that plugins can use for looking up key mappings from a custom keymapping.xml
- fixed a problem that could cause digital data channels to appear as MPEG2 on QAM
- added support for madVR video renderer. This video render seems very flakey to me (for example, switching between window and fullscreen mode), but I've added support it for those that want to experiment with it.
- improved support for 3rd party IRecorder plugins.
- added GenericImportChannelsForm for IRecorder plugins that want to use it
- greatly improved the time required to save new channels when importing a large number of channels from xmltv or schedules direct.
- improved the auto-merge feature.
- added option to enable/disable the default handling for MCE remotes.
- added logging around recording importation to help diagnose problems.
- fixed problem that could cause high CPU usage when viewing the menu screens when configured to use TV Viewer mode, or when Direct3D was not available.
- watched indicator now only set if you've made it at least 60 seconds into the recording.

  Strange satellite tuning problem
Posted by: pds - 2011-08-27, 03:53 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (4)

I have found a very strange problem with the tuning on NPVR 2.1.5 with patches V2 due to recent channel changes on Eurobird 1.

Several channels were moved to 11307 V and now none of these will directly tune. A channel scan finds them okay, they can tune by going to a channel on a different multiplex first, but from an idle state the tuning request seems to be ignored.

This has not been an issue before the recent channel changes, and I have been using NPVR with satellite for over 6 months.

I have tried several other programs e.g. EPG grabbers and live TV viewers, and all tune properly. If the frequency is tuned by one of the other programs first, NPVR can use it fine. GVPVR 1.4.7 can also tune to it directly, the problem just seems to be with NPVR.

I have tried adjusting the frequency slightly to 11305 since another multplex transmits on 11307 H in case the card was using the wrong polarity, but it did not make any difference.

My setup consists of XP SP3, Core 2 E6300 with a Technisat SkyStar S2.

The supplied LOG shows a recent attempt after changing the frequency to 11305. I tried going straight to one of the channels (Kix!) which failed to lock. I then moved to another multpliex and back to Kix!, which worked and locked the signal. I then stopped the live mode and viewed it again which worked. Then I tuned to another channel, stopped the live mode and tried to watch Kix! again which did not work. An interesting thing to note in the LOG is that the Kix! channel appeared to lock but with the same quality as the channel previously tried.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

UK BBC1 Live Sport alert for Doctor Who fans
Posted by: bgowland - 2011-08-27, 08:10 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

If you're a Doctor Who fan then you'll know that it returns this evening but if (like me) you're not a sports fan you may not have noticed that this afternoon there's live coverage of rugby. Due to past record of the BBC and live sports coverage, you may know where I'm going with this... Wink

In short, I've just added a large chunk of post-padding to my scheduled Doctor Who recording. Cool

Cheers,
Brian

  don't disable Aero!
Posted by: johnsonx42 - 2011-08-27, 12:18 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

On my system (as documented in my signature), I have found that disabling the Aero theme in Windows 7 (ie switching to Basic) will cause video tearing and slight choppiness in NPVR. This is counter-intuitive, but I have repeated the expirement several times over almost a year and found it happens every time.

I have no idea if this happens with Vista as well, but I suspect it would.

Any know what this firewire thing is for?

I'm not sure how I came about this in my system tray but I opened it and had these options:
[ATTACH=CONFIG]31441[/ATTACH]

I'm not sure what I did other than setup W7 Windows Media Center, something I'd never done on this machine. When the app is in the system tray it shows strange little balloon text with the suggestion of 3 tuners. What is this, and what do these options do? What's all this talk about moving the MCE recording?

I do change the channel on my cable box via Firewire but I don't believe I've seen this thing before. And in any event, inadvertently closed the app and now it's gone. I don't know how it got there or what it was, but it looks interesting. Smile
