Waking a PC with a network request
Posted by: bgowland - 2011-04-15, 02:41 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (3)

Slightly abstract (but npvr related).

I don't hibernate my npvr machine as it is generally being used more hours than not. As a result I'm trying to work out how things work with 'sleeping' PCs.

With the nDroid client I'm developing, I can see a situation where the client sends a request to the user's npvr machine but that machine is hibernating. At this point, there isn't going to be an immediate response and potentially if the user doesn't have 'Wake on LAN' set then it will always fail.

It occurs to me this would be the same for EWA/NEWA, for example, so is it a case that this sort of approach requires the user to make sure their machine never hibernates if they want remote access?

Cheers,
Brian

  Zero size recordings
Posted by: FNM - 2011-04-15, 12:05 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

Hey all,

probably something stupid i've done but my NPVR has been working flawlessly until last week when all the recordings are going to zero size. I've tried installing the new version reset etc and I look in the nrecord log and can't find anything obvious. What have I done? Smile

Note I uploaded nrecord sep as it wasn't allowing me to add to the zip

Thanks in advance!

Recent IE9 Update and a whole bunch of Windows Updates and PCH-A100 not working

Some errors in the logs, works OK on the PC - just not on the NMT.
Plays a few secs then jumps out?

  Very Strange Commercial Breaks!
Posted by: jcjefferies - 2011-04-14, 11:47 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (2)

Last night on my client I watched a two hour recording made earlier in the day. At the start of every Ad Break video freezes on a frame of what would be a few seconds of “Sponsored by ***” although the sound continued but not from this advert! Jumping forward 3 minutes took you towards the end of the break and the same sponsor’s still frame appeared although the sound from the programme continued. It took quite a bit of jumping forward and back after each break to start watching immediately after the break.

This was a 4:3 programme and the screen changed to 16:9 just before the break and back to 4:3 just before the end of the break but this does not coincide with the video freezing. Afterwards I quickly tried a couple of other recent recordings and neither displayed the problem. This morning I try to investigate the problem further and play the same recording on the server and client and there is no sign of this sponsors advert. So what on earth was going on!! It looks like at the start and end of the adverts a still from an advert was being displayed instead of the correct video stream. I assume this rogue video frame was stored on the video card and something in the data stream caused it to be displayed instead of the video stream. Has anyone else seen anything similar happen?

Importing of Recurring Recordings in NPVR 2.0.3
Posted by: kylebrophy - 2011-04-14, 10:55 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (1)

Hi,

Im just making the leap to NPVR from GBPVR - and ive done the import recordings option - which brings all the recording through perfectly ... one thing ... none of my recurring recordings are imported.

is there a reason for this - or do i have to manually go through the EPG in NPVR and add them as season recordings again?

  "V" not appearing in EPG
Posted by: ThomasD - 2011-04-14, 08:01 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (15)

In the slot that should show the tv series "V", I get "(no show details)".

My GB-PVR installation shows it.

On another note, I would also like to see the return of the old search screen, I miss it terribly Smile

  Graphics Card - ATI 5450
Posted by: NumberFive - 2011-04-13, 07:35 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

Hi,

Anyone know if the ATI 5450 is anyway decent for HD video, h.264 broadcasts (i.e. BBC HD, ITV HD).

I have an ATI X1300, and it doesn't seem to support h.264 acceleration. Been recommended the ATI 5450 by a gamer, but thought I'd check with the right crowd first. Smile

Thanks!

File not deleted when the “Recording” is deleted
Posted by: jcjefferies - 2011-04-13, 03:29 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (13)

I have just spent several hours going through each of the recordings listed under “Ready Recording” and comparing them with the files stored on disk. So far I have been able to delete over 30GB of files recorded over the last six weeks and no longer listed under “Recordings”. I was a bit confused when the “time” in the file name didn’t match the time of the recordings from late March then remembered a comment that the file name used GMT. So was even more confused when from last weekend the recording file names started using local time.

Most recordings are deleted via the client after they are viewed or if I notice a duplicate so have just deleted several recordings from both the client and server and all correctly disappear from the server disk, so cannot immediately repeat the problem. Has anyone else had this happen?

  Virgin Media Powered by TiVo

Anyone got one/getting one?

I'm not sure if I see the appeal myself. Unless I'm missing something, it just appears to be a pretty face on nothing more sophisticated than genre searching? Although I guess it must hold *slightly* more info than that on each programme otherwise it would just end up recording every "action" movie as soon as you said you liked one of them. Who knows...maybe it does.

ABC Australia EPG lists same show three times 1 min apart. Records multiple..
Posted by: CCCMikey - 2011-04-13, 02:06 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (11)

Hi Smile

The ABC Australia EPG occasionally publishes the same show two or more times in the EPG. For example on tonight's EPG listing.

Adam Hill In Gordon Street Tonight 8:30 to 9:30
Adam Hill In Gordon Street Tonight 8:32 to 9:31
Adam Hill In Gordon Street Tonight 8:33 to 9:31
Adam Hill In Gordon Street Tonight 8:33 to 9:31

Because I have two tuners, GB-PVR records the first two, and will forego any other shows as a result.

Is there any way to tell GB-PVR not to try to record two shows simultaneously from the same channel?

I have tried wiping the EPG and reloading - the duplicates still appear.

I have tried NextPVR but it refuses to play its own recordings, hogs a CPU and hangs when recording from both tuners. However its EPG does ignore the duplicates - seems to pick the last entry only.
