Decided to upgrade my tried and trusted 500GB Samsung HDD to a 2TB model so I could finally rip some DVDs, but since doing so I've had the following issue with GBPVR (not tested it with NPVR yet).
When playing HD video files recording from UK television (mainly BBC HD) I'm getting random playback freezes every 10 to 15 minutes. After a minute, it unfreezes and catches up on itself. Windows (7, 32bit) itself hasn't frozen, just the video/audio playback within GBPVR.
There's no way this is a GBPVR problem though, because if I play the same files from my SDD boot drive, or the old 500GB drive then everything is fine.
- Tried a different video decoder but it still did it
- I've swapped both its sata cable and the port it's plugged into
- I've swapped it for another drive (same model) but the problem continues
- It's been scanned for errors and comes up clean
- Its performance looks fine via HDTach and appears faster than the old drive too
- Windows has been told not to let the drives idle
- Other files I've tested with a smaller bitrate (SD, 720p mkv, etc) all play fine
- Tried NTFS and exFAT formatting: no difference
I'm now beginning to wonder if it's some sort of built-in auto-idle that the drive might have, but if that was the cause, surely it would screw up with all files.
I've just set up a PC client, all working very well with tv playback starting massively faster than on GBPVR. I'm not getting any channel logos in the guide though.
I copied the media\channels directory from my main PC to the client. Is there anything else I should be doing?
I have one remaining niggle that I get moaned at about.
With NPVR the channel name is truncated whereas with gbpvr it went to a second line as shown below. With the "Discovery" ones, it shows it to its worst.
Any thoughts of a tweak for this? I've looked at the skins, but what is in them is a touch beyond me as a newbie to what all the keywords may be.
...it broke the ability of my NPVR box to go into standby.
SP1 for Windows 7 has been pretty widely reported in the online media as being a bit of a nothing update. Apart from a couple of obscure fixes, it's basically just a roll up of all the fixes that have been distributed over windows update since 7 first came out.
My PVR is running NPVR 1.5.36 with all the hotfixes on Windows 7 x64 and used to run flawlessly, until SP1. I can only recommend that you don't bother installing it.
I started posting this message before I managed to solve the problem. However, I decide to post anyway, in case others have a similar problem when upgrading to 2.0.3.
Better half just came downstairs complaining that 'no tuner' (analog) are available after upgrading to 2.0.3 and trying to set a recording. LiveTV does not work either with "no capture devices" message.
A reboot didn't help, and there are no active recordings.
Configuration (setting/devices) suggested the Analog tuner is not present, but enabled, and the digital is both present and enabled. Error message in NPVR.log referred to MainConcept encoders not present (just like here)
I noticed that the upgrade seemed to change analogdevices.xml changed back to soft_encode from

Changing back to HARD_ENCODE enabled the analog tuner and got rid of the MainConcept encoder error message, but did not seem to solver the original 'no tuners' problem.
So I re-registered (see here) hcw_mcmpeg2mux.ax, and a restart of the recording service and NPVR seemed to solve the problem.
So I just upgraded to 2.0.3. It fixed my Schedules Direct problem of not having any EPG data on my ATSC channels, but now the times are off by 6 hours!
Ie, 8pm CST EPG data has a daytime show that should be at 2pm.
sub....in 2.03 (maybe earlier versions as well) I am noticing when I enter a direct skip amount that the timeline does not align to what was entered.
For instance....I start playing a recording on the PCH and enter 42 and skip to go to 42 minutes into the recording.
NPVR does skip to the correct time but when I click on the info button and the timeline it shows the amount of time that the recording has been playing.....
So....if I hit 42 skip and watch for 6 minutes the recording goes to 42 minutes into the recording but the timeline shows 6 minutes.
