I'm putting the finishing touches to a Beta version of a simple Android client which I intend to release in the next week but I'd like to get some indication of interest and some idea of devices being used by people (see follow up post).
The design is based purely on my own requirements and at the moment covers the following...
Browse TV Guide information (7 days)
Set new / cancel pending recordings
The next stage will add the following...
View What's New recordings (purely for interest see note about streaming below)
Provide Status information (i.e., what's currently recording on which tuner)
Show System information (free disk space and so on)
More advanced future possibilities (if there is interest from users)...
Manage multiple N-PVR machines
Streaming audio files (i.e., from the 'Music' folders)
C2DM to provide PC->Android 'push' alerts/notifications
Note on streaming: I have no personal interest in streaming either video or audio and although streaming audio is relatively straight-forward, it's low on my list of priorities. Streaming video is more complex in particular with problems streaming .ts recordings created by N-PVR to Android devices. Further to this, the unreliable nature of mobile internet connections and potential data costs mean I have no plans to add this feature.
I have a new installation of NPVR 1.5.36 running on Win7 x32. I have the two tuners of an SiliconDust HD Homerun box up and working well; now I am working on getting the Motorola DCH-3200 STB working thru firewire.
I have the (legacy) firewire driver and the timmmoore drivers installed and appearing in device manager ( 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), Motorola AV/C Panel Device (DCH-3200), Motorola AV/C Tuner Device (DCH-3200) and Unknown IEEE 1394\5068 Device are all there).
The Motorola STB does not appear in Devices; I also have a total of four entries for the HDHR (there is only one two-channel device on the LAN).
What additional setup do I need to perform for the Moto, and how can I remove the duplicate HDHR entries?
Why won't it work? Whatever navigation button I hit causes that text to show in the search field. For instance, I press rewind and the word REVERSE shows up. Any other way to search the guide besides from the keyboard. Wil it work with an MCE remote?
I've noticed nPVR seems to fail to let me use both tuners. I've got a HVR-4000 and a Technisat Skystar2. It used to work fine using both but recently if it's been recording something, live TV fails etc. Here's a log from tonight when we were watching live TV with the HVR-4000 and Top Gear attempted to record on the skystar2. It correctly tries the skystar2 but gets a 0 byte file. I cant see anything from the log that looks wrong though...
I am trying to commit to NPVR but the big problem is with the TS files that are the output.
We use the NEWA interface exclusively, both for setting a recording and also for playback. Under GBPVR, MPG files played beautifully but for some reason I can't play them under NPVR. TS files don't play very well, with occasional pixellation. I also don't get any time information (time played, total time) which makes it difficult to return to a particular spot. I am using VLC as the external player.
Can anybody help with a PostProcessing.bat script that will transcode the TS output to MPG and relink to the NPVR library? I've searched the forum but for the life of me I can't find a suitable script.
I never understood the trial and error system of trying to figure out the x,y values for positioning and offsets. They make no sense and never did even on the MVP. This was also evident using the MVP Position plugin.
Why is it that when you change the X or Y (seemingly beyond some unknown point) the offsets go berzerk? All of the time spent dialing in the offsets is then shot and you need to start over. Repeat indefintely. This time I can't seem to get it right. When the menuing appears proper and I launch a video, the video is way out of whack.
Since the start of Feb I have had problems with the EPG not displaying scheduled recordings in the morning when they were being displayed correctly the previous evening. All my recordings are ârecurringâ so donât know if this applies to single recordings. My previous computer had a very similar problem but the motherboard failed so this is a clean install on a different computer.
After a restart yesterday everything was being displayed correctly but this morning NO recordings are displayed apart from the red time bar at the top of the screen. I presume that something happens during the EPG update to cause this problem. The symptoms do seem to vary as everything seemed to work the previous morning but the morning before that just the most recently scheduled items were missing from the EPG. The problem seemed to start after I added the NPVR Final patch and seemed to disappear when I twice reverted to NPVR patch 4, but that brought back the âFailed Recordingâ error.
