I set up a share from my own card in Dreambox using CCcam and Hadu. Almost working.
When I go to crypted channel, it shows few seconds ok, then freezes and pops up info screen "error dumping". Then Nrecord dies and bit later Nextpvr also. Have to kill it from task manager.
Same setup in Gbpvr works, with mdapi filter and hadu. Gbpvr don't crash.
Just wanted to provide a little FYI in case others run into this.
I have Microsoft's standard firewall disabled on my PC but do run Microsoft Security Essentials, which includes an anti-malware service. While trying to set up NextPVR I found that I was unable to view status on my installed device - via setup or the tray icon - and when I tried to record anything, the recording failed with an error in the log: "System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8968"
It sounds like a normal firewall issue, but since I have the firewall service disabled, it took me a while to figure out the trouble. There were no errors in the Microsoft Event Log of any kind. It turns out, it was the anti-malware service included with MS Security Essentials. Disabling the service I could immediately see my device status and record without trouble. To run the service and still have everything work, I had to add exceptions for NextPVR.exe and NRecord.exe to the Windows Firewall exception list, even though the firewall service isn't running. Apparently the anti-malware service uses the same list.
Anyway, hopefully this post will help others that run into the same problem.
Just trying to get a feel of what people are using with US free OTA tv as far as decoders along with Windows 7. I plan to move to NPVR once the tv guide becomes integrated for Schedules direct or when the final realease comes. I've had recent problems with W7 and getting live tv to play which has been a result of decoders. So I'm asking to see what other people are using and with what success with this type of setup. Looking for more free options if availalble but just want something reliable with recordings and playback. Thanks.
I recorded a movie last night that is 2 and 1/2 hours in length.
I get HD with an over the air antenna in the US.
I am using the latest NPVR and WnXP SP3.
The ts file for the movie is 13 gig.
I need this file to fit on a 4.7 gig DVD+RW.
I am assuming that a ts file will play directly in a dvd player.
In the good old days of analog tv channels I could record up to 6 hours on a single dvd with a stand alone dvd recorder/player.
Is their a setting in NPVR somewhere that will accomplish this? If their is I am not seeing it.
Is their free software that will shrink this ts file?
Am I on the wrong track altogether?
Did some searching through back threads but didn't find an answer I was satisifed with.
I recently upgraded my system to an AthlonX4, 4 GB DDR3, on an Asus M4A785TD-M board with onboard Radeon 4200 video in a hope of making my system HD-capable but I still seem to have picture stutter issues with Live HD channels from my HDHomeRun. Recorded programs from the HDHR also have stutter with any renderer other than Overlay Manager.
Any recommendations for a good add-in video card to throw in there? PCI-Express 2.0 x16 is the available slot. I also have another limitation - I have everything in a small-ish MicroATX case that has a 300W power supply - which seems to be a bit of an issue as a lot of cards seem to be requiring more robust PSU's than that.
I don't necessarily need a low profile card - I can use one with a standard bracket - but the smaller physical size of the card, the better. Passive cooling would also be a plus.
I've always been an nVidia devotee - would a 9400 card be sufficient?
I keep getting failed recordings with the message "Device failed to start". Any idea why this is happening?
Edit: now I notice that some of my recordings are 0MB in size. Also any recordings that I can watch are all choppy. I tried watching live TV and it was choppy for a few seconds and then the computer just got a BSOD. WinDBG of course points to ntoskrnl.exe as always.. worthless information...
I guess the 0x00000116 error does seem to be related to the video driver, but why would that crash and capture cards be crashing all at once?
I seem to be having a problem getting my requested number of days of EPG download. Actually, since using NPVR, I've never been able to get the full 15 days from Schedules Direct that I got in GBPVR. However, I was getting 10 days. Now, I seem to only be able to show 5 days in my Guide. Even using the Microsoft Legacy choice doesn't seem to make a difference.
I have tried other grabbers with no luck. All I see in my guide is 'No Details'. Has anyone else noticed a problem like this? Another system is only able to show 6 days down from 12 originally.
I picked up a D-Link Boxee Box http://www.dlink.ca/boxee/ extender on the weekend and thought I'd share some info. I actually liked the look of the box which I thought I'd hate, but the remote keyboard is too small for me and needs a backlight.
They are not cheap $199 CDN but overall I thought for v1 firmware it was't bad. Certainly the Atom 4100 is the fastest processor I have used on a standalone player.
I haven't had a lot of time on it but I think there are some features that might be of interest to N/GBPVR users.

Boxee is known for online content and it wasn't too bad either, something like 132 services certainly better than the NMT's. I didn't expect much because I figured everything would be for the US market but I was happy to see all these http://www.globaltv.com/video/index.html for free and in pretty good quality too. Netflix is expected soon.
An expected surprise was the basic browser included has full flash support and pages that didn't have there own Boxee service or rss feed could still be viewed. It's probably the best experience I've had with justin.tv NEWA loaded too but the remote is a bit awkward as a mouse, but apparently a mouse can be attached.
