Possible issue - video micro-stuttering tv issue
Posted by: IanJ - 2010-10-12, 06:09 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

Hi all,

If I leave the system running overnight (watching any live tv channel), switch on the tv in the morning I notice the video is ever so micro stuttering. All I have to do is restart NPVR and it's fine.

One issue I do have is that when I do switch the tv on in the morning NPVR has dropped to a window on the desktop so have to maximize/full screen it. It's then that I notice the micro-stuttering.

Will play with the ATI card settings to see if I can't switch off the "tv off" detection, but in the meantime, any ideas?

ATI HD5570

  MKV files
Posted by: IanJ - 2010-10-11, 10:43 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (9)

Hi,

Can't play MKV files, so installed FFDSHOW (from what I read elsewhere), but still no joy. Is there anything else I need to do to get working?

Thanks,

Ian.

No limits on mdplugin recordings on same tuner
Posted by: Barsk - 2010-10-11, 10:42 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

If I set instances limit to three, and by accident start four recordings of encrypted channels that happen to be on the same mux - they all go to the same tuner, which does not work...

I suggest that a limit of the number of concurrent recordings of encrypted channels on the same tuner can be no larger than the instances setting. Unencrypted channels could reuse the same tuner though (I guess).

NPVR - Out of memory error
Posted by: IanJ - 2010-10-11, 10:15 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (3)

Hi all,

Was giving the wife a run through NPVR tonight and managed to get a windows error "NPVR Out of memory" as NPVR crashed.

Was testing out the recording features, had 2 channels being recorded and went off to watch a 3rd channel. I may have opened a channel I have listed but was probably not working and I got the error. Have trie dto replicated no joy.

However, managed to get the details from Win7 event viewer. See attached, all related to same crash/error.

  Suddenly can't playback recordings
Posted by: _Iz- - 2010-10-11, 09:18 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

Using 1.4.7 for a long time now. Haven't changed anything. Suddenly no recordings will play. I can play movies and even timeshifted tv from within gbpvr but not recordings. Recordings will all play from outside GBPVR in powerdvd or windows media player on the same machine. Recordings also play on my PCH a100 using MVPMCX2 no problem.

If I chose to play a recording, the screen goes black, the OSD comes up displaying the program name but the timeline doesn't move. hitting play or pause has no effect (other than making the osd display). I can stop the show and return to gbpvr with no problems but I get no sound or video.

Machine is dedicated and is only used for GBPVR. Logs attached.

  GuidePlus for NPVR
Posted by: carpeVideo - 2010-10-11, 02:35 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (143)

GuidePlus has been updated to work with NPVR. If you want it to autodetect series read the wiki and use the createNpvrTrigger argument once.

http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/GuidePlus

* First its a guide enhancer: it takes a schedules direct XML file (may work with other XML guides as well) and writes a new XML file with several enhancements for N/GBPVR.
* Second it is a file renamer: if shows have season/episode tags it groups those shows and renames the file of a show to include season episode info and episode title.
* Third it is a file mover: it moves series and movies into their own directories (on any location on your network) while updating the gbpvr/npvr database.

Guide plus does everything when you run your nightly epg update. This means that files will not be renamed or relocated immediately after they are recorded which is a slight disadvantage. However, guidePlus will do its thing (renaming, moving) for all files in the database, not just those recently created which is a great advantage. Have 300 recordings of series you would like renamed, run guidePlus!

  My little list of bugs
Posted by: Barsk - 2010-10-11, 08:39 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (17)

Well, I thought I would post my list of found bugs. It will be from the top of my head, so I might forget some and later come back and edit this post to correct. Some of these bugs my be known, some maybe not...

This is from 1.5.31 + patch 6 by johnsonx42:

  1. In device setup, scanning channels. The swedish station names, e.g "Karlstad, Sörmon", are encoded as UTF-8, but the dialog tries to display them as iso-8859-1. (by the look of the garbeld output)
  2. When coming back to channel scan the location and station is forgotten. In my case showing Spain, Andalusia.
  3. When selection multidec and not having FFdecsa.dll in path, the error dialog displays behind the fullscreen N-PVR window. I.e not showing.
  4. CI not working for Twinhan Ter-CI
  5. When changing the root folder for recordings in the settings and copying stuff to a new place. N-PVR still references the old directory for older existing recordings. New recordings go to the new location. It would be much better IMHO if the database referenced recordings indirectly and only needed the root folder from settings for the complete path. EDIT: This has been debated below, and is not regarded a bug.
  6. In the integration with NMT, done by Martin. There seems to be a bug that hangs the whole service that occurs after you set your PCH to exit N-PVR. When you go to you standalone N-PVR the capture devices refuses to show a picture. Restarting the service hangs until you manually kill NextPVR.exe. This has happened twice for me. Forgot to take the logs though... Edit: Have done extensive tests and cannot reproduce this problem, so case closed!
  7. When approaching the end of a recording that is still recording, i.e catching-up the end, I get kicked out to the TvGuide. If I stay say a minute from the end all is well. When I get kicked out, there is no resume possibility either.
  8. PC client: When a new program starts according to the EPG, the stream stops. In GB-PVR there was a problem too where there was a minor hickup between programs. In N-PVR it stops. Escaping to TV Guide and restarting the view restores the stream. For a childrens channel where each program is about 10-15 minutes this becomes "challenging" after some time Smile
  9. Sometimes when restarting the recording server, it fails. Need to manually kill the NextPVR.exe processes first then NRecord goes down.
Missing features from GB-PVR (some dearly missed)

  1. OSD buttons for REW/FF/PAUSE
  2. To click in the timeline bar to quickly go to a point in time.
  3. Missing TVGuide in video playback. EDIT: And in recordings too! This was a great benefit in GB-PVR that regardless where you were, what you were watching, the TV Guide was always accessible.
  4. I am not 100% sure, but I seem to remember that the timeline for TV shows were adjusted to the life span of the show according to the EPG. This does no longer appear to be true. So I can no longer just check the timeline to see how much is left of a show. EDIT: <OldStyleTimeLine<true</OldStyleTimeLine> fixes this

Hmm, will probably fill in more items as I remember them. Others with there own reports may post them here too. Maybe we can get a complete list for Sub to chew on.

Audio cutting out on live TV
Posted by: dspdrew - 2010-10-11, 05:03 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (10)

Anyone know why I would be getting glitchy audio that cuts out randomly while watching live TV? This only happens with live TV, when watching recordings, the audio is fine.

  "Whats New" not updating
Posted by: XJW - 2010-10-11, 04:40 AM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - Replies (8)

A small issue but probably worth fixing at some point.

Selecting "Recording" from the main menu I enter the "Whats New" screen. This appears to show the status when it was last accessed rather than the current status. Using the right arrow then left arrow to return to the "Whats New" screen will force it to update. It appears that it is not updating when you access the Recording screens from the menu.

  No audio in mpg file
Posted by: Lindsay - 2010-10-11, 03:51 AM - Forum: MVPMCX2 and other NMT stuff - Replies (5)

I am converting VCR material to mpg. The result plays OK on WMP and NPVR but on the PCH there is no audio. Can anyone see where the problem may be from these specs produced by Quick Media Converter?
