Looking for recommendations on a hardware frontend for GVPVR in living room
Posted by: hexibot43 - 2010-04-05, 03:56 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I am totally hooked on GVPVR! Big problem - wife doesn't want my computer in the living room anymore. I've been looking at some hardware frontends for GVPVR like PopcornHour. I'm trying to find something that looks good, fitting in with my all black equipment. Now is there something that can also play dvds and vcds? I've been looking at the idea of getting a media case like the Zalman that have lcd display, and putting my pc in that too. I've got two satellite tuners. One hooked up to the hauppauge pvr-500 I just put in my computer, and the other by way of an hd pvr-1212. So the amount of equipment in the living room is getting a bit overwhelming. I was thinking of moving everything to the garage, and just have a nice simple frontend in the house. This would keep the wife happy....and if she's not happy......Im sure you know the rest.

One1 Usb Dvb-S tuner and multi record channels, ability to program all via Tv Guide
Posted by: Waynesm - 2010-04-05, 04:01 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (1)

Hi,
After some help from this forum I have a single Hauppauge Nova Usb2 Dvb-S system working.
With appropriate scheduling it is possible to record, simultaneously, all channels of the Tvnz Group OR the Mediaworks channels as well as Cue, Stratos and Shine with those.
As long as one channel is programmed via Epg and the rest Manually all is good.
Within the last hour I have recorded Tv1,Tv2,Tvnz6,Tvnz7 and Maori Tv all at once,
followed by Tv3,C4,Tv3+1,Prime,Cue,Stratos and Shine succesfully.
I realise that this is a major ask but the ability to select all channels from the Epg would be useful.
As long as one channel is programmed via Epg it does not seem to matter if the manual records are before, same as or after time programmed on the Epg selection.
Selecting two either manual or via Epg will result in 0 Byte recordings and a restart of the computer is required due to errors.
Tell tale indication of errors are distortion of placement of "Tv Guide" graphic when switching from Recordings to Main menu.
I am not aware that all Dvb-S systems allow this but if they do then this would be a valuable addition to future releases.
I have programmed a manual recording which started before an Epg selected program and that also was successful.
The on screen indication of individual record only displays on the Epg selected program although the indication at the top of the guide is there.
Amongst all this a useful 2 alterations have occurred to me, that is the ability in manual record to adjust the time by 5 minutes perhaps by use of shift key to change the default 10 minutes for the final selection of start/finish time.
The second is when adjusting the record start time the finish time is also incremented as well
in tandem thereby reducing keyboard use.
Congratulations of a brilliant program and I look forward to future releases.

  Output Resolution Problem
Posted by: David.Skinenr - 2010-04-05, 12:29 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

My live TV output aspect ratio appears slightly wrong but in trying to fix this I am quickly getting out of my depth and would appreciate some assistance.

My system is quite simple with an analogue PVR-150 recording from Cable TV via an S-Video connector. The Video card is an nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS. The TV is a Sharp HD which can run 1920x1080. The Video card feeds the DV via a DVI adaptor to an HDMI cable.

When I turn on the OSD on the FFDShow codec's it always shows the input being SAR 16/15 DAR 4/3 with a resolution of 720x576. However the output shows the same thing and even if I try and force a resize with FFDShow the output resolution remains at 720x576.

The video appears vertically stretched on the TV and I would appreciate knowing where to start with this.

Regards
David

"placements fanart" what xml determines it's use please?
Posted by: tvshowman - 2010-04-04, 10:36 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (12)

Hi sub,

I discovered that the slick skin can use fan art when movies are bunched in one directory which is how I always preferred my movie files since i found it easiest to use shuffle and read metadata with no directories. Simply click next file and have the info there instead of need to click back and fourth in directories.. click click clik.

since slick has no shuffle option I have been trying in vain to get any other skin to display the fan art but I am not a programmer just a tinker'er so and I need some help or insight to know if I am at a stumbling block or if it is not possible with any skins at the moment.

I am trying to enable the feature to work with my modified community skin 4 video library skin so that when highlighting a movie the fan art displays like it did with the slick skin.

I added this to the placements but not surprised it didn't do a thing.

<Placements>
<Placement name="FanArt" loc="0,0" size="100,100"/>
</Placements>

Is there more that needs to be done to get this to work and if so where can I download the info to enable a skin to understand it?

I should note that when I go into settings and change the skin from slick to cs4 that pvrx2 reboots and each fanart will display in the video library properly until I close pvrx2 at which time the fanart will stop functioning until I change to slick skin.

File names for those interested

Angels & Demons(2009)(Violence)(2.5 stars)_20100404_05000720-fanart.jpg

I also noticed that folder.xml can be used to display the metadata of a folder so I could try to do something with that to display metadata of a movie without actually needing to enter a directory if I went back to that file format.

I should also figure into putting a light mask under the description text to make it easier to read

Any ideas what I should be doing or looking for
Cheers

  No sound from DVD
Posted by: garymeds - 2010-04-04, 05:28 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

hi - not sure why this has happened (don't use DVD's that often) but I get no sound from GBPVR (picture is ok). media player works ok as does PowerDVD8 which I installed to test.

went through all audio renderers in the settings menu (not via config) - changing these options via the settings menu need an app restart?

appreciate any pointers...

  MVP stuck at "Loading Application"
Posted by: grits - 2010-04-04, 04:05 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (6)

I've used the MVP with GBPVR for quite awhile and have been quite satisfied. I'm not sure what happened, but recently the MVP was stuck on the "Connecting" screen and wouldn't load GBPVR.

I've tried:
- powering off the MVP and restarting. It cycles through the all the steps as usual (checking ethernet connectivity, etc), then gets stuck at the "Loading Application" screen.
- I reloaded GBPVR on the PC server, no luck
- I checked other GBPVR stuff, like web access, and everything at the PC seems to be working fine, it is recording shows and I can look at stuff through the web interface on the home LAN. I can stream through the web interface.
- I stopped the GBPVR service, and started the 3 hauppauge services. I then restarted the MVP. The old hauppauge mediaMVP interface loads and works, so connectivity doesn't appear to be an issue.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what else I can check, or which logs I could post? Router settings perhaps? The only thing I've recently done is add a Windows Home Server on the network but that is a separate machine.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Doug

Audio only works when a certain channel is opened first
Posted by: mikej - 2010-04-04, 10:01 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Hi, I am having a problem with audio on FreeviewHD (NZ).
If i start any channel (excluding AC3 stream of TV3) there is no audio. If i then switch to TV3 the only audio is weird beeps.
However if the AC3 stream of TV3 is opened first all channels have fully working audio.

The 3 Audio options in the advanced codec section all have ArcSoft Audio Decoder listed as it came with my tuner (WinTV Ministick HD).

Any advice on how to get the audio working properly?

Thanks

ffdshow postprocessing on .ts file playback
Posted by: alibert - 2010-04-04, 06:15 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Hi,

it seems that the ffdshow raw video filter is not inserted into the graph when playing back .ts recordings created with the built in TS Mux, both for sd and hd recordings. However, when recording to .mpg using the CyberLink mux for example, ffdshow postprocessing is enabled on playback.

I've attached the pvrx2 native logs that were created during playback of a .ts sd- and hd-recording (no ffdshow raw video filter) and the playback of a .mpg-recording (ffdshow post processing enabled).

Is there something that I could do to enable postprocessing on .ts-file, too?

Thanks,
-alibert
