Unable to Discover SiliconDust Flex 4K
Posted by: pkscout - 2022-12-31, 01:21 PM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (8)

I swear there was a thread on this issue somewhere, but I can't find it.  I've got a new SiliconDust Flex 4K which is up and running on my network.  I can connect to it and view the channels in VLC, but when I scan for devices in NextPVR, the device never shows up.  I have two other SD devices (cable card devices) that are fine, but I scanned them quite awhile ago.  All of them are running firmware 20221031.  I'm running in Docker on a Synology NAS.

I wonder if SD finally fully depreciated the old method of scanning for devices.  When I use the SD discovery URL at:

http://ipv4-api.hdhomerun.com/discover

I get my two card card devices but not the Flex 4K.  If I use:

http://ipv6-api.hdhomerun.com/discover

that shows the Flex 4K.

Anyway, attached are some logs.

I even tried manually inserting the device into the database.  That got the device to show up in the list, but it shows as unavailable.  My next thing is to try and write an extra that will just pass the URL for the channel to NextPVR.

  Recording Images (pictures)
Posted by: tesla1886 - 2022-12-31, 01:01 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (8)

When going into recordings and seeing the individual series, each series has an image, these images are usually related to that series.

I currently have four different series programming with a generic image, a starry night city sky line.

Is it possible to easily change the images with ones downloaded from the web, say from IMDB or other such website. If so how?

  EPG Not Updating
Posted by: shredder83 - 2022-12-29, 09:37 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (19)

Having some issues with the EPG. Seems like it does get the XMLTV file from my provider but doesn't put them into the database.

I've attached the log file.

Hopefully someone can tell me what to do. I can redo everything if needed.

Thanks.

Set up Channel without Guide Colossus 2
Posted by: peter t - 2022-12-28, 03:09 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (9)

I am using V5.1.4.210802 I have not updated past this version due to poor play-skip performance with H264 files on all following versions.
(I am not the only one using this machine and if "SHE" is not happy it is up to me to fix it.) ((But that is another story.))
I want to manually set up a new channel on my Colossus 2 from a set top box where a guide is not available.
This was easy on V4. I may be missing the obvious with V5, but I cannot see a way set up another channel with IR Blaster without having a guide.
I tried editing a channel which is of low importance but could not find a way to edit the blaster channel number.
Do I have to return to V4 to solve this issue.

Access to the path C:\Users\Public\NPVR-Data\media\shows is denied.
Posted by: rv0987 - 2022-12-27, 09:57 AM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (4)

Hi,

NPVR Version: 5.2.2.21101 on windows 10

When using the nextpvr client v5 and clicking on the recordings menu i get shown this error:

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path C:\Users\Public\NPVR-Data\media\shows is denied.

Using the webinterface there is no problem accessing the recordings.

I checked the privs on the mentioned folder but they look allright to me.

What can this be?
Why is the client trying to access this folder?

Regards, Ronald

  Enhanced Search Functionality request
Posted by: ceejayemm - 2022-12-27, 09:11 AM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (5)

I use NextPVR to record films from the UK FreeView service and to help with this I have used the 'Films on FreeView' website (https://www.viewfilm.net/) to find out what is being shown in the next couple of weeks. Recently however this web site has not being working due to technical issues being experienced by its provider.

Another source of film listings is the plethora of listings magazines published here in the UK, with The Radio Times probably being the best, if most expensive, of these. For a long time The Radio Times had a section showing all the films being broadcast during the week covered by the publication so it was easy to browse through this section to find any films I wanted to record.  Recent changes in the format of The Radio Times have now resulted in the films being listed in each daily section which makes this process a lot more tedious.

I have realised that I have an excellent resource, in the form of the NextPVR EPG, closer to hand which I don't really make the most of. The Guide is populated each day, for me, using the Schedules Direct listings which for the UK are pretty good.  I use the basic search facility and occasionally the more advance search features but I wondered if it might be possible to provide something a bit more useful ? Whilst I have a background in programming and databases (it is somewhat rusty and well out of date) I don't 'know' the NextPVR database in any detailed way to be able to put together the searches I might need or to create the pages to publish the results.

I would initially like to be able to search the EPG and list all the films (movies) showing:

- Channel Name/Icon
- Film name and date
- Broadcast start and end date
- Film description / synopsis
- Age classification (in the UK U, PG, 12, 15 etc. but any classification used by SD would be OK)
- Review rating (one to five stars or again any classification used by SD would be OK)

It would be nice to be able to choose to:

- show all occurrences of films held in the EPG
- or to restrict them to unique names as FreeView tends to endless repeat films within a given period on the same or different channels.

From the presented list of films it should be possible to select and record the film(s) using the existing recording selection options.

A future extension of this might be to apply the same selection capabilities to other categories of TV shows e.g. Children's TV, News, Sport, Political (?), Comedy, Documentary etc. depending on what categories are available from the EPG.

I know somebody, somewhere (Sub / Martin ?) will tell me that all this is possible using SQL statements and I would be happy to use this as a trial/starter to prove the functionality if its easy to implement. However it would be so much better if this functionality could be available within the web app so that it is available across the whole breath of NextPVR implementation. This would also appeal to my wife, who has no programming knowledge, so that she could use a 'nice' listing that would subsequently make it easy to choose which film to record. It would also enhance the already great functionality of NextPVR and might appeal to other users too.

I hope this might get some consideration and appear in a version of NextPVR in the not too distant future :-)

Many thanks

Chris

Any idea if this is important?  I had a few recordings fail and saw this dump file by chance.  I am guessing it is an error with the tv tuner not locking signal causing some other issues possibly triggering the dump file.  The recordings in question are all on the same frequency so it most likely was just a tuning problem.  I am able to lock signal on that frequency now. Question Live TV Not Working in Firefox Web Browser
Posted by: Chris4877 - 2022-12-26, 12:48 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (4)

Hello,

I have NextPVR v6.1.1.221106 installed, running under Windows 10 Pro x64 v22H2, with Mozilla Firefox x64 v108.0.1, configured as the default browser, both for the OS and for NextPVR.

I have attached my log files for your information.

Installation was apparently successful, I was able to open the NextPVR Desktop client successfully, and Live TV also played successfully.

However, if I open the NextPVR bookmark in Firefox, choose something from the Guide, and then choose "Watch Now," nothing happens, not even that message about starting the device, etc.

Besides the Windows built-in CODECs, I also have installed the LAV filters from NevCariel, v0.77.1, obtained with great difficulty, because for some unknown reason, both Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers blocked the downloads, stating the a virus had been detected, and there was no possibility of overriding the block, and regardless of what I did, including turning absolutely everything off in Windows Security, disabling SmartScreen both in Edge and in Windows Security itself, it was impossible to download using either of these browsers, but I had no problem downloading through Firefox, which is why Firefox is now my default browser. (I've been searching for the site where I found a piece of advice that the NevCariel LAV Filters were especially recommended for NextPVR. I'm 100% sure that I've read it somewhere in the dim, distant past, and I think it could either be somewhere in these forums, or on the NextPVR website, but my search has been in vain. I seem to remember reading in that article that these LAV Filters were preferable to the filters on the Codec Guide website, and I preferred them anywa, mainly because my default media player is VLC, and I have never liked using the media player that is installed with the Codec Guide filters, and which cannot be prevented from installing.

The installation proceeded without any difficulty, (all Real-Time protections were disabled), and all the CODECs were installed, including the H.264 CODEC, which actually required a supplementary download during the installation procedure.  All the CODECs and filters have been left at their defaults: I haven't changed a single thing. However, whilst the NextPVR Desktop Client is working perfectly well, it simply refuses to work through the Firefox browser, even though I have allowed every Firefox permission I could possibly find that might have stopped the page from working.

I can't think of anything more to add, except that my system is a Gigabyte AMD Aorus Elite B450 AM4 Motherboard, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU (this particular model has no built-in Graphics Support), 64GB of DDR4 2600 RAM, and an AMD WX3200 Graphics Card with 4GB DDR4 RAM, and which has 4 Mini-Display Ports and NO HDMI PORTS. (This is an AMD-Branded Graphics Card, NOT a Gigabyte-Branded AMD Graphics Card).

I would appreciate it very much if someone here would be kind enough to have a look though my log files, and if possible, point me towards a possible solution.

Also, should you require any further information with respect to either my hardware or my software configuration, please reply to this thread, and I'll supply whatever information that I can possibly find.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards to all
Christopher Souter

  Unable to upgrade
Posted by: MovieBuff - 2022-12-25, 06:09 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (4)

I have been trying to upgrade my installation of NextPVR, but experiencing problems.  When I first tried to upgrade, I was running NextPVR on a version 5.x that had the categories capabilities in the Search function.  However, when I tried running the upgrade, it actually reverted back to a previous version that no longer had the category capability in the Search function.  When I investigated further, it appeared that a Windows update some months back may have corrupted some of my system files, and I had to rebuild my PC from an old system image from 2019.  This included a NextPVR version 5.2.  I tried upgrading this one, but after running the installerl and opening the browser, it had reverted back to version 5.0.1.191224, with an indication that an upgrade to version 5.2.5.220110 is available for download.

After trying the upgrade process several more times without any change to this version number, I felt this was a lost cause and decided to try uninstalling NextPVR altogether and re-installing a fresh version so I could start with v6.1 before trying to copy over a backup of my database and config file.  However, I have been having similar results to my previous upgrade attempts.  After I uninstall and then re-install, when I open my browser (Firefox), I continue to see that the current version is 5.0.1.191224.  This appears to be confirmed by the Search function, which does not provide search by categories.

When I uninstalled, I performed the following steps:
- Exited the NextPVR application using the icon in the system tray
- Closed Firefox
- Stopped the NextPVR service
- Uninstalled NextPVR using Add/Remove Programs (only worked first time, see note below)
- Deleted folder Program Files\NextPVR
- Deleted folder Users\Public\NPVR-data
- Restarted PC

The first time I uninstalled, I was able to run the uninstall NextPVR program.  I selected the option to remove the program but not the data.  However, subsequent installs did not re-create the .exe file that the uninstall program uses, and so I was not able to run it again in subsequent attempts.

When I open the downloaded executable, it appears to run to completion and launches NextPVR.  In a couple of my attempts, I ran as administrator to be sure that the job could access any files it needed to use.  After running the installer, I can see that I now have new NextPVR-data and Program Files\NextPVR folders, and there is a new database with a timestamp of when I ran the installer.  But when I open my browser and look, I still see v5.0.1.191224 in Settings.  A couple of other things seem strange:  When running the installer, I am not prompted to agree to any license agreement, even though I thought I had deleted the old NextPVR installation, and NextPVR is still present in my list of Services after deleting the folders and restarting the PC.

Since I kept getting an old version, I wondered whether I was somehow running an old installation program.  However, I downloaded the installer from Sub's 2019-06-14, 09:54 Install Information post, which I accessed from both the http://www.nextpvr.com/download.html as well as NextPVR announcements 6.1.1.221106 Available (6th Nov 2022) Windows link, so I think I was running the correct installer.

In a "Cannot Install" thread, Mvallevand suggested including a zip of C:\temp\install.txt, so I have attached that file.
