  Multi-client deployment and varying behaviour
Posted by: ninkynonk - 2023-01-04, 07:06 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (5)

I run NextPvr 6.1.1.221106  on a Windows 10 pc.  I have UIClient running on 3 CCGTV devices, Android Client running on a Android box and occasionally use the WebClient and/or the UIClient(Browser) on a laptop.

Let me start by saying that NextPVR with UIClient is a very impressive combination.  Thank you for all your hard work on this solution

The purpose of my post is to identify the different behaviour of each client in a given scenario.  I took the liberty/opportunity to offer suggestions.  Do with them what you will.

As this post is “cross-client” I was not really sure which forum it belonged in, so I chose Windows.  If there is a better forum for it, please kindly advise.

Scenario 1
-A recording is active on the server
-A user starts one of the clients on client device, navigates to a channel and selects the channel
-The behaviour is different for the different clients
-Android Client: no error, just a black screen
  -UIClient (CCGTV) Error: ERROR_CODE_IO_BAD_HTTP_STATUS
-UIClient (Browser) Error: no error, just a black screen
-WebClient Error: No tuner was available for the requested channel.
-Windows Client: Unable to find available capture device
-Suggestion: when a user tries to select a channel when a recording is active, popup a window with options for the user:
-Continue with the recording and cancel the channel change request
-Cancel the recording and honour the channel channel change request
Scenario 2
-A user is actively watching a channel
-The time arrives for a recording to start
-The recording commences on the desired channel
-The behaviour is different for the different clients
  - Android Client: no message.  Stream just freezes
  - UIClient(CCGTV): The channel does not change for the active watcher, but it seems that what the user is provided is a loop through some buffered video?!?!?!  And it loops until you stop the channel/return to the Main Menu.  When you press “Back”, you are presented with the same message as the Windows Client.
The tuner you were using was required for a recording.  Would you like to switch to watching a recording or exit back to the main menu?
Watch: {recording}
Exit back to Main Menu
  - UIClient(Browser): no message.  Stream just freezes
  - Webclient: Android Client: no message.  Stream just freezes
  - Windows Client:
The tuner you were using was required for a recording.  Would you like to switch to watching a recording or exit back to the main menu?
Watch: {recording}
Exit back to Main Menu
-Suggestion: when a recording is about to start and there is an active stream in progress, popup a window with options for the user:
  - Continue with the recording and change the active viewer stream to the channel being recorded
  - Cancel the recording and allow the active user to continue watching their current channel

Scenario 3
-A user was watching a channel.  They turn off the TV, but do not close NextPVR client or return to the main menu, leaving an active stream on Device 1
-Another user opens NextPVR client on Device 2
-The following error is displayed for each of the different clients:
  - Android Client: no error, just a black screen
  - UIClient (CCGTV)Error: ERROR_CODE_IO_BAD_HTTP_STATUS
  - UIClient (Browser)Error:no error, just a black screen
  - WebClient Error: No tuner was available for the requested channel.
  - Windows Client: Unable to find available capture device
-Suggestion: when there is an active stream (Device 1) and another user/device (Device 2) requests a stream, popup a window with options for the user:
  - Continue with the current stream to Device 1 and cancel the request to stream to Device 2
  - Cancel the current stream to Device 1 and honour the request to stream to Device 2
  - A popup is displayed on Device 1 stating that Device 2 requested the stream to Device 1 be terminated

When you have several NextPVR clients and one is accidentally left running, it can be a bit of search through the house to determine where the active stream is.

Thanks for considering this post

  LibreElec file locations
Posted by: jcjefferies - 2023-01-04, 01:49 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (24)

I am testing NextPVR running under LibreElec 11 as an alternative to Windows 10. It didnt like my old Nvidia video card but works using AMD motherboard video.

I am unable to find any info in the Wiki or Forum where the tuning files and other files which under Windows are located under C:\Program Files\NextPVR\data

  Schedules Direct
Posted by: tesla1886 - 2023-01-03, 07:04 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (4)

Today I noticed that I had two channels with the exact same listings, so I went in to settings to verify the Schedules Direct Mappings. However the option to use Schedules Direct is missing.

Please see image below.

Can any one advise what is going on here?

  New install login failed
Posted by: Heifer - 2023-01-03, 12:50 AM - Forum: Linux - Replies (5)

Just finished a fresh install of nextpvr on a clean install of ubuntu server 22.04

Cannot log in via Firefox or Safari - on both a mac under OS 10.13.6 and an iPad.
Cleared browser history - just in case.
checked config.xml as suggested here: https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=60936
stopped and restarted nextpvr-server.

What else should I try?

Getting guide data for Kodi and NextPVR on Synology NAS
Posted by: NewUser - 2023-01-02, 01:43 PM - Forum: Docker amd64 - Replies (2)

After spending several days looking online, I can't find a simple solution.

I am trying to use NextPVR with HD Homerun quad network tuners. I have NextPVR installed on my Synology NAS (via Docker) - and I can get live TV to my FireTV stick (with Kodi installed). I just can't get any guide data.

I started to follow this guidance, but it proved too complicated and messy: WebGrabPlus - self-hosted EPG via Docker (blackvoid.club)

Is there a simple feed I can use or subscribe to - which I can enter in the NextPVR's XMLTV entry field (in the settings page)?

I'm watching UK TV programmes (and I do have an annual Digiguide membership that I can use - or happy to use another from a free/paid service).

Many thanks!

I'm trying to change the default recording directory in settings from C: to another hard drive that resides on my local network, any pointers on how to get this to change would be appreciated.\ as it does not seem able to find the network?

Thanks

Moving NextPVR to new system (linux)
Posted by: cyber - 2023-01-01, 01:02 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (17)

Hi all,

I'm trying to work out the steps I need to follow to move my existing NextPVR setup to a new system.

So far, I've installed NextPVR on the new machine using the .deb file and its running in a 'clean' state. The old machine was also installed using the .deb file.

The main change is going to be the recordings location which was /mnt/MyPassport/NextPVR/recordings and is now going to be /mnt/data/NextPVR/recordings

In terms of the steps to follow, I've got:

1. Copy recordings from old location to new
2. Stop nextpvr service on both computers
3. Move npvr.db3 and config.xml in /var/opt/nextpvr to the same location on the new computer

Is this right and what else do I need to do?

  Schedule recurring edit
Posted by: markn62 - 2022-12-31, 06:10 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (4)

Creating a recurring recording are pre-populated with pre-padding & post-padding as default. But when editing the created recording these same two fields are something other than default usually blank, zero, or one. Is this normal?

Mangled Channel numbers, any ideas please?
Posted by: JohnLes - 2022-12-31, 06:00 PM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (4)

Using the latest version on Win10 for Freeview (DVD-T in UK). Did a rescan of channels and it trashed all the channel numbers, so when BBC1 was 1, BBC was 2, etc, now they were all over the place. A bit like it used random channels that hadn't previously been in use (so the lowest channel was 8). Worked flawlessly for years, including a few times with the current software version.

Any ideas how to fix it?

I did see a post about increasing ScanDropTime, then found two config.xml files for NPVR. Only C:\Users\Public\NPVR-data\config.xml had ScanDropTime (C:\Users\Public\NPVR\config.xml didn't) so I increased it from 3000 to 4000.

I could renumber all 141 manually I guess, but seems a huge amount of work? I could replace the contents of a NPVR directory with a fairly recent backup, if anyone can recommend which directory?

Can anyone help?

If so thanks in advance!

Oh and Happy New Year for a few hours time, or a few hours ago... (delete as appropriate  Smile )
