I am currently using two ATI 550 analog tuner cards. Comcast in my area is changing over some analog channels to digital. So, I have lost the History channel and would like it back!
What are the best choices for a digital tuner to pick up all the channels? I have looked at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/CaptureCards and do not understand the basics of DVB-T vs DVB-S. What are some of the most popular digital cards used in the US?
I am using an ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard which has 2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x16 and 1 PCI-E x1 slots. The ATI 550's are taking up the two PCI slots now. I am prepared to replace one or both.
I bought a Twinhan DVB-T USB from Maplins. gbpvr recognises it as an AF9015 BDA. I have tuned in many channels but it won't let me record one channel while watching another! Its a dual tuner so it should work like this.

i was wondering what your memory usage for pvrx2 when watching a hd video was like...
i'm getting huge jumps to over 500 megs...which disappears when it's stopped..
my other cards get nowhere near this amount in same system with same drivers..
only happens when using a dxva codec..[ati mpeg2, cyberlink,etc]
i'm just trying to figure out if its a by-product of the current architecture,[namely 4xxx drivers]

I've been very happy with GBPVR, using HDHomeRun. It took me a long time to get it all setup, but I think I'm 95% of the way there. Everything seemed to be looking great, but for some reason during Sunday's NFL football games, I noticed that playback was jerky (dropped frames) only on CBS, scrolling text (ticker type) was clearly jerky. But on other channels like NBC it is smooth as silk including scrolling text. On regular non-PC based, digital set top box TV, CBS playback was fine with no jerkyness. I'm using the latest version of GBPVR (1.4.7), ATI mpeg video decoder, TS Mux. There are no audio problems. What could be causing the low frame rate only on one channel? Signal strength is not a problem, this is a very good signal.
Hardware: AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core 2.5GHz w/ 4 gigs RAM running windows server 2008 64 bit.
I am running XP under Service Pack 3 with GBPVR. For almost a year, I have been happily using an MCE clone remote that I picked up at Jaycar. Suddenly, about a month ago, I started experiencing problems.
The problems are similar to what I read in this ancient thread, but the answers don't work for me:
- I have to use DEVCON to remove and rescan the USB device after awakening from standby. If I don't, the remote simply doesn't work at all until I do this, or unplug and reinsert the sensor. As I said, I've been happily doing this for about a year, but I suppose that solving this problem would solve the next one:
- Suddenly, after a year without complaint, the remote reported that it needed to search for a driver. When I allow it to do so, it seems to find the HIDclass driver, but then reports that it "can't complete" after attempting to copy the file. It always does this exactly three times; I can understand twice (once for keyboard mode and once for mouse mode), but why three times?
- One interesting thing is that the remote actually works perfectly well until I try to install the drivers, cancel the installation or go back into standby. After doing any of those things, it stops working.
- Backtracking to a system restore point solves the problem FOR AWHILE, but then it recurs. At first, a system restore was giving me about five days between problems; now, I am down to about a day. This is probably due to the loss of earlier restore points.
If anyone can suggest a solution that doesn't involve a system rebuild, I would be most appreciative.
have a bit of an issue trying to get zprocess up and running with the latest version of gbpvr. The main goal is playing a ton of avi movies (400+ GB) that I have ripped to a central location.
Currently I have tried to install zprocess (2) many times and I have never encountered all the prompts which are listed in the wiki guide.
I have already installed mplayer with mencoder and it keeps asking to find it. Once I set it, I can continue into the main window. I try and use the default options of ffmpeg or mencoder and the MVP either crashes within a couple seconds or doesn't play any audio. I have tried to follow multiple guides and post threads about possible reasons/options for things not working and nothing.
If anybody can offer any hints on what they have done to get this working. When using 1.3.7 I had everything working like a charm. I upgrade and it all goes down the toilet...
Ok, this is a cry for help on playing avi files.
If you happened to see my other posts a few days ago, I recently rebuilt my backend box to install the newest gbpvr build. Ever since reinstalling everything I have been unable to play avi files. OS is Vista ultimate, ffdshow, mencoder, ac3filter and probably more are installed and configured per the posts I’ve read/wiki.
Currently, I have Zprocess set up with MVP profile to use ffdshow. With that in mind whenever I try and play an avi file the picture looks great but there is no sound. If I switch it over to use mencoder the MVP crashes after a couple of seconds and goes back to the mvpmc screen. I have my playback options set to using ffdshow for the both audio options and the system default for sound rendering.
Now, more than likely I have no clue what the heck I’m doing. I had everything working quite well 8 months ago (avi files were fine!!!) before reformatting, now everything is going wrong.
If anybody has a minute to spell out any recommendations on configuration setups, or an entirely different setup, I would be grateful.

I let my hard drive that I record to fill up the other day. I cleared s stuff out of it but now every time GBPVR tries to record something I get a "Delayed Write Failed" error. I see that microsoft support says to uncheck enable write caching on the disk but it has been running fine for a year or so and the microsoft article says that disabling that can effect drive performance. Is there any other culprit I should be looking for with that.
