playing TV when mediocre DVB reception
Posted by: cybermaus - 2009-07-31, 07:17 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi

I have doubtfull fortune of living at the fringe of 3 separate DVB-T tranmitters which deliver the same content. (Dutch Digitenne). So I get them all equally good, or equally mediocre as the case is, and sometimes equally bad, depending on the weather.

After testing with GBPVR for quite a while, and reading a large chunk of the forum, wiki and FAQ, I come to the conclusion that GBPVR does not deal well with artefacts. Of which I have plenty in the signal.

I have done the quartz.dll thing, in fact, checked all the items in TweakPlayback and more.

The following is what I observe:
- Sometimes (often) the playback is extremely choppy, even though CPU is not too high.
- Even if I record, and then play back the recording, it is still choppy.
- When I rename the recorded .ts to .mpg, and play it with WMP, it does play without choppyness. I see a lot of artefacts, but a continuous video.
- At the sections where in WMP the artifact increase, in GBPVR the choppyness increases
- Also Hauppage native app plays the same channel with artefacts, but no choppyness.

So far, I have replaced the quartz.dll, used the various playback codecs and renderers. I also tried the various stream (de)multiplexers but believe the WMP playback proves that is not the problem. I also deselected and deinstalled multidec. I could buy and place a directional high gain Yagi antenna on my roof, but I want to avoid that if possible.

I welcome any other idea's, but suspect GBPVR may benifid from debugging the playback mechanism when dealing with artefacts

I have XP on a 2.6Ghz P4 with ATI Radeon 9100 and a Hauppage Nova Dual DVB-T. All latest drivers, except where they have known issues (quarz.dll & usbehci.sys, and yes, I am certain I successfully replaced those)

  Compro Videomate T300 not working
Posted by: brucep - 2009-07-31, 06:46 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I've updated my drivers for this card and GBPVR can no longer find it. The card still works with the Compro Software.

I've attached my FilterCheck.log - I hope you can help.

Thanks and I love the software.

  Record Options
Posted by: Webster - 2009-07-31, 01:00 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I'm a newbie, having just installed a Hauppage HVR-2200, and got it working ok. The only problem so far is that when I select a program to record, I'm only offered the option "record once". No option to record season or whatever. Is this something I have to configure, or an extra plugin?

  Are you a videophile?
Posted by: mvallevand - 2009-07-31, 12:48 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I've been playing around with colorspace (sic) 601 and 709 because apparently 709 output will look better in HD on some monitors. An better explanation with some examples are here http://www.sigmadesigns.com/Support/chromaticity.html When I look at the examples I really can't decide which is better or worse. I am curious to hear what GB-PVR users feel about setting the colorspace.

As I mentioned some people on the NMT forums think this is is a major problem and so I have updated mvpmcx2 to support BT 709 as the default on the NMT. I figured it wasn't working because I trully don't notice any different but I have confirmed it works through the use of another NMT users's utility.

  TV Wonder HD 650 PCI
Posted by: smithyed - 2009-07-30, 09:41 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (6)

Hi! I found this website today and wanted to try this software. The capture card in my system is listed in the title. So far I've installed the software but could not find a hardware profile that would work. Others have posted on the website that they have been able to get the card working, but alas they are smarter than me! I could not! Additionally I did try the technique listed for "unsupported cards" but ran into a dead end on that as well.

Does anyone have some advice that I could try to get my card working with GBPVR?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Does anyone know why my picture library plugin shows the folder picture like the attached image?
I have a Dev box with same Skin and it shows correctly. Also If I go the pictures folder using explorer I see the folders thumbnail.

  new guy with general questions.
Posted by: chee16 - 2009-07-30, 04:27 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

so i have read lots of great things about GBPVR and it seems like the program that would suit me best. here is what i am using:

Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop (120gig harddrive, 1gig DDR ram)
Hauppauge HVR-850 USB tv tuner
Bell Expressvu satellite reciever

all i really want to be able to do is record things off the satellite with decent quality (i don't need 1080i Big Grin), watch them later or even sometimes record them on a DVD. i hook my computer to the TV using the S-video and the red and white comp. cables to the earphone jack (not sure what the other one is for really) so its not like i am looking for theater quality, i just want the same as i get with the basic satellite receiver.

so, i have successfully used the WinTv program to schedule and record a movie (ended up being 3.9 gig but if it is already in DVD format then that isn't bad) and it was actually really easy. is GBPVR going to give me a lot more options? i like things simple and i downloaded GBPVR and tried setting things up (i didn't spend much time though) and couldn't get anything going. i have read something about GBPVR only supporting the digital aspect of the HVR-850 and not the analog? is my sat signal analog or digital? (i know i am a noob).

any experiences and help would be great. i like to read about this stuff so links are great too.

thank you

  Plug-in causes PVRX2 to crash
Posted by: BigMoose - 2009-07-30, 01:34 PM - Forum: DVB-T Radio - Replies (2)

I've just discovered this plugin and have been having a go this morning but after downloading and installing, I had the same XML problems as listed in the wiki thread below. Once I solved them with the provided xml file, pvrx2 just crashes when I try to select the plugin. I'm running vista64 which the notes claim now works, with the latest gbpvr version. Since I have a hauppauge HVR-1100 dvb-t I did the other update in that wiki thread but that appeared to achieve nothing. I also have a skystar2 DVB-S card if that might upset things...

The LAME filter oddly wouldn't install on my x64 box which is strange as I've never had problem installing 32bit filters and have all those needed for dvb-s sd/hd video and audio playback. I also have various mp3 filters so assume I dont need lame? From what I can tell in the log it's not getting that far anyway.

Logs attached. Any advice gratefully received!

Posted by: thamch - 2009-07-30, 12:23 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I had an video clips(MPEG2) which was stereo sound.
The left channel is english audio
The right channel is spanish audio

Over here, I would like to know is there are ways to switch only left or right sound channel?

I had search the gbpvr wiki and I don't find such shortcut key.

Thanks for the help.
