Would be interested to know what others users do about resolutions & refresh rates when it comes to the various types of media.
I have been using GBPVR with a Toshiba LCD for a while (had to get an Nvidia card to make it work).
I set the resolution manually to 1920x1080, 50Hz. It's been fine - lovely smooth ticker-tapes on the news channels, great HD...
But I did have to crank up the brightness, and fast movement not great - not judder as such, more of a shimmer around edges - and MKV files were not as smooth.

1080p gave a brighter, sharper image - definately better for Windows programs, but TV / DVD had the judders. Then found that using the 'Set HDTV format' option to 1080p in the Nvidia drivers had set it to 60Hz. Had to manually edit the 1080p settings to get 50Hz. So now had brighter image - Windows good, DVD good, but the ticker tapes not as smooth as they were - slight judders.
Remembered that MKV files are 24fps - so tried 1080p 24Hz and although smooth video, the audio goes out of sync after a minute or so. Found that 1080p 60Hz gives best results for MKV's.
So it got me wondering how everyone else does things - do you change refresh rates, progressive / interlaced, maybe even resolution depending on media, or leave it on one setting?
So far I'm thinking;
Windows - best at 60Hz 1080p
DVD - 50Hz, OK at 1080i - looks better with PC progressive (720p or 1080p)
MKV files - 60Hz, 1080p
SD and HD TV - 1080i 50Hz - 1080p 50Hz has some advantages, some disadvantages.
First off I want to say that I use to run GB-PVR about a year and a half ago but uninstalled it because QAM support was iffy. But now, I would not use any other program on the internet to tune in QAM channels. MUCH better then cr@ppy WinTV. Anyway my question is when I am tuned onto a digital channel such as CBS-HD (2.1, March Madness Baby) and then switch to an analog channel such as ESPN (Ch. 57) it goes to the analog channel but no sound or picture comes up. Now when I look at the Recording Status window, it verifies that it has switched to the analog tuner and has the right channel tuned in. I have tried everything from changing renders to different codecs and nothing help. I am attaching the log files to see if anyone can help me out. Thank You in advance.
In the process of doing a fresh build and install, I thought i'd try the ts mux recording option.
What type of file is it? AVI? What type of codec is required to play it? I installed ffdshow and it seems to work now but i still would like to know all the details.
I've had GBPVR running for quite a while (over a year). This morning, I decided that it was time to move up to version 1.3.11 (currently running 1.3.07). The install runs all the way to the end and then rolls back. I am not getting any errors during install. After the rollback, it says that the installation unexpectedly failed. I also tried to install the Meyham theme and that seemed to work, but it doesn't show up in the skin selection.
I have a PC running Windows XP and I would like to install GB-PVR on it. I downloaded the installer file and ran it. At first I got errors that said I needed to upgrade to .NET 2.0 and after a long battle with windows updates I no longer have that error, now however when I run the installer i get the error message
Error 1904. Module c:\programfiles\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvrwriter.ax failed to register. hresult -2147010895. Contact support personnel.
I couldnt copy paste that message so I had to retype I disregarded captilization, if you need the correct capitization i can provide it.
If I ignore this error others similar to it come up I can also give you those errors if needed. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it?
According to the documentation, the "Watch" option when navigating the guide only exists if the program is currently showing.
We regularly set our satellite receiver to tune future programs (not record, because we are watching live). That way we can access the guide, select a couple hours of programming, and let it change channels to the appointed program at the desired time without us having to scroll up and down and through the guide every time the show we were watching ends. One trip into the guide is enough to allow us to program everything we are going to watch (live) for a couple of hours, a day, or even a week (or more). The only time we need to record a show is when it comes on late at night or when there is going to be something on while we are out that we will want to watch. We would use "Watch" at least 5 times more often than "Record".
Frequently, when I pause live TV, GBPVR goes silently black, and I have to jump through hoops to get it working again, sometimes I have to reboot. The IR blaster frequently stops working after watching a DVD or coming out of paused TV. That means the IR blaster stops working several times a day. The WAF is already low, so the lack of a "Watch" option for future programs is the "deal-breaker" that prevents me from being allowed to set up a GBPVR PC in the TV room.

After some digging in the forum I can confirm this dongle is same as Easy TV DVB-T dongle
apperantly win 7 has it's own decoders for playing video files (xvid, x264) so even if i'm installing external decoders, it uses the internal.
is there any way to force gbpvr to work with a selected decoder (i know that there's an option for selecting h264 in the config, but even when i'm choosing it, it still plays with the internal)
Thanks to the wonders of Partition Manager I totally destroyed my Vista installation. I've now started to re-install GBPVR, but am not having any luck with doing a successful scan to pick up the digital channels... both the Nova-S and T500's aren't picking up any channels, although the signal strength looks pretty good. Any ideas of where to start looking?
