For the past few months, I've been using my WinTV-PVR-USB2 with GBPVR. I dont have a cable box, and actually I wasnt 100% sure what service was coming through the line, because I wasnt a subscriber as there was a good line that worked from the last resident of my apartment. Regardless, the WinTV was able to pick up a good number of the basic channels, so I was fairly happy.

I guess the cable co finally figured out their mistake as I lost all service. Every channel.

I want to try to use a Slingbox to stream TV from my parent's house to mine. They have digital cable and use a HD-DVR STB. I guess what Im confused about is, what will happen if move my WinTV setup to this line? I know that this tuner only supports analog, so would I get any channels? Would I be better off with another tuner card? Recommendations are appreciated.

Coming from linux I often find myself wishing I could log-in to my machine and mess with it while my family is watching something. Apparently Windows Server allows this and you can enable it on XP and Vista. I haven't tried this yet, but here's a link to a good walkthrough:

I've been thinking about Auntie's DRM issues and also about some of the crap I read in this forum about how you "need to have a TV licence" to watch it.

Lets deal with the "licence" bit first. Utter crap! Total and utter crap in fact. The TV Licence is not a tax by and for the BBC. It's a tax allowing you the priviledge of watching TV in the UK. If you atch TV via your cell phone you need a licence. If you watch TV over the Internet you need a licence. If you watch TV in any form over any media you need a licence. This is the law. Anyone whom has been prosecuted for not having a TV licence (as I have more than once) will be in full affirmation of my comments.

Aunty is not restricting her services to licence payers. She's restricting it to the UK market so that she can earn more revenue in other markets with her programming. For example, we get to see Top Gear here in the US about 6 weeks after it airs in the UK. We have to pay to see it. The same is true in other markets where providers offer their programming to other outlets.

OK, enough ranting. Now onto my question/idea;

Could the iPlayer plugin be instructed to use a proxy server? This way one could watch UK content if the proxy was in the UK. The server uses IP geolocation as part of its DRM mechanism. As most users would have a 192.168.x.x address via a router the only place it could be done would be at the server end.

First I’d like to start off by saying that I think that GBPVR is great PVR program. It’s taken me a while to get everything to work and it’s been a learning experience. Thank You SUB and all others that have contributed to this application.

That being said, I have a problem that I’ve scoured this forum for and haven’t found the answer to yet. I’m sure it’s here somewhere unless my issue is unique, which is possible.

Here’s the problem……..I open PVRX2 to either schedule or manual record a program (doesn’t matter which). All goes well, starts on time, wakes the computer if in standby and records the program, great so far.

Now comes the problem, when I open the PVRX2 app. either during or after the recording process is completed, the CPU usage goes up to 98-100%, eventually PVRX2 will open but takes several minutes to do so. CPU usage will stay at 98-100% until I open Task Manager and stop the process PVRX2. If at this point I try to open PVRX2 again the same thing happens 98-100% CPU usage. The only way I can get everything working properly is to run a bat file I’ve set up to stop and restart the GB-PVR Recording Service, which are just net stop/start commands. After I run the bat file all is well and PVRX2 and CPU play nice again. Obviously it’s next to impossible or impossible to open PVRX2 to cancel a recording in progress while the CPU is in this state.

I can’t say with any certainty when this started because it used to work fine. I kept thinking it would be fixed in the next release of software I guess. I think it was about the time GBPVR was phased out and PVRX2 became the application.

I have purged all the logs before starting the above process and have attached them to this plea for help………..Thank You in advance.

Media portal is buggy as hell even the v1.00 release. GBPVR is much, much better of course... but there is one thing in media portal that works really well. To fast forward with a remote control in media portal is really easy. You can press the fast forward button multiple times and on the screen it displays +5 sec, +30 sec, +3 min, etc, depending on how many times you press it. After you stop pressing fast forward it waits a couple of seconds and then jumps ahead the time that you specified.

Sounds like somthing that could be easily integrated into GBPVR (but then again I'm no developer). The steps should be fully configurable like they are in media portal. What do people think does this sound like a good idea?

I have tried installing the Iplayer per the instructions on the wiki.

The install over writes the skin2 and plugins directory. When I restart config the program crashes.

Have I misunderstood the installation instructions ???

I've decided that I'm going to uninstall and reinstall. What do I need to backup before uninstalling?

I've been playing with the XRecord skin (both the community skin 3 and the beta CS4 HD skin) and have 2 questions (I assume the answer would be the same for both, but if not...I eventually plan to move to the CS4HD once all the bugs are worked out.

1. I see that the skin is pulling images both from ...\gbpvr\media\art\ and from my recording directory...in that order. Is it possible to set the skin to look for images in the recording directories first and only use the media\art\ path if it does not find anything?

2. In the Recordings "plugin" I can skin it to show both 4:3 and 16:9 aspect images without distortion by using:

fixedAspectRatio="true" align="center" valign="center"

on lines that specify the size/location of the images. I have set the size of the image such that it is 16:9, but using the above code any 4:3 image display such that they fill the height of this space and the width is scaled properly to maintain the aspect ratio (i.e., there is some unused space to the left and right sides as the properly scaled image is centered). I tried adding these commands to the lines specifying image size in the XRecord skin, but it has no effect...aspect is automatically the same as the size of the image regardless of the original aspect of the image. Is there some way to make the skin preserve the aspect of the images or would this require coding changes to the plugin?

I upgraded to 1.3.11 yesterday and now I can't access GBPVR from the PCH. When I try to connect, I believe it is timing out. The screen goes black and blinks like it normally does, but then it reboots after 10 seconds or so (I believe it's timing out).

My server is headless and doesn't have the capability to run PVRX2. However, I can access the GBPVR configuration and scheduled recordings are occurring so I believe my installation is working.

My method of connecting to the PCH is through a shortcut from Swisscenter. This was working fine yesterday before the upgrade.

Any ideas?

Hi, I just installed the latest gbpvr and I'm having some problems with the basic set up. Things I change in the config, such as changing the skin from slick to blue, and editing the menu and plugins section, do not take effect when I run PVRX2. The settings I changed are remembered but every time PVRX2 is run, it just looks like the default set up.

I'm running vista which is fully up to date as far as I know. I tried restarting the system just incase that would fix it, but no luck. I attached the log files too. Hope someone can help with this bizarre problem!
