  HVR-2250 First Impression
Posted by: Anthony - 2009-02-13, 03:55 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (10)

I just got a new HVR-2250 to suppliment my HVR-1600 cards.

The first thing I noticed was how much smaller the card was than the HVR-1600's. Instead of big clunky tuner cans on the card, there's just a couple of tiny white boxes.

My HVR-1600's could never lock on to QAM cable reliably, so I decided to try it with the HVR-2250. I was pleasantly surprised to find a 100% quality on all channels in WinTV and so far every station has been perfect. I will need to have a few days of recordings before I'm completely at ease with it, but it's much more promising than my HVR-1600's.

So, I'm running the digital side of my two HVR-1600's off of an outdoor antenna. And I connected the dual tuner HVR-2250 to my cable. I'm no longer using the analog tuners of the 1600 and am only tuning digital channels on the HVR-2250. No more analog for me! Smile

I'm using the current "beta" driver for the HVR-2250 download from the Hauppauge web site.

Best video card for plasma display?
Posted by: ram4x4nut - 2009-02-13, 03:53 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

Hey all, been a while since I posted!

On my main HTPC I have an NVIDIA 8500 GT video card that I have come to really hate. It's got to be the worst card I've ever had. Anyway ...

I want to get a good card to drive my 50" Panasonic Plasma and do it well. Do any of you have suggestions? I'd love to know what you are using and if you are happy with them. I've never had good luck with ATI stuff but at this point I'm willing to try just about anything. I'd really like a card that I can custom set the resolution.

Thanks in advance!

Sort by channel numbers in Digital Channel mapping
Posted by: Anthony - 2009-02-13, 03:44 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (4)

I just bought a new HVR-2250 for my system, so I upgraded to GBPVR 1.3.11, and had to go through the Digital Channel Mapping process again for the new tuner sources. I'm using QAM cable with the HVR-2250 and discovered the local network channels included the station information (i.e. "6.1 KOIN-HD"), whereas most channels do not (i.e. "73.7 Unknown10").

Unfortunately, the channel list is not sorted by channel numbers. So, 6.1 ends up buried somewhere in the 107's, 8.1 is buried somewhere in the 115's, etc. Even the unknown channels are out of order in some cases (i.e. 117.12, 117.5, 117.16).

Since I was trying to match the channels with a list of local QAM channels, it was often difficult to find the channel I needed in the long unsorted list.

Would it be possible to sort this list by the channel number in a future update? It would sure make matching up the channels a lot easier.

Thanks,

Anthony

  PVR-150 only mono sound
Posted by: pgoelz - 2009-02-13, 01:23 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I researched this and found a bunch of references to people with PVR-150s who only got mono sound. There was the suspicion that it was due to a driver issue but I was unable to find any references to a fix.

My recordings are all in mono and the WinTV application reports that I am configured for stereo but that the current mode is mono.... regardless of the channel I am tuned to.

Has anyone who had the "stuck in mono" issue ever gotten the PVR-150 to actually record in stereo?

  pv2xr does not run, 1.3.11
Posted by: rmorein - 2009-02-13, 05:12 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

The hardware was running the previous version fine, when a faulty SATA cable cascaded by "operator errors" to a required complete reconstruction of the system.

Problem:
PV2XR terminates before displaying anything.

Also, in the "remapping digital channels" panel, clicking for the drop-down box of tuning choices results in an unhandled exception about 70% of the time. However, the exceptions are not fata. It was possible to complete the remapping process.

If you progress further back in the log files (attached), there is probably visible an unhandled exception that related to providing Schedules Direct with the wrong account info. This has been taken care of. So, unhandled exceptions aside, the only extant problem of the 1st magnitude appears to be that PV2XR will not run.

This system received all current updates, including the .NET ones that others have mentioned, before installing 1.3.11. So it is impossible for me to know whether the .NET updates are the cause of this problem.

  HVR1700 no DVB-T
Posted by: lemming - 2009-02-13, 04:02 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Hi

I have added a HVR-1700 tuner to my HTPC. The analogue portion works fine, but I can't select it's DVB-T tuner within GB-PVR config. I have attached an image of the available options if detected hardware only is selected. I also have a HVR-2200 which shows up on the list. Don't know why the other cards are displayed??

Any help appreciated.

  Can't search
Posted by: dennit - 2009-02-13, 01:48 AM - Forum: Torrent - Replies (5)

I can't get to the search screen. Everything else works. I see the torrents set up manually directly through utorrent. As soon as I select SEARCH, however, I get a momentary glance at the search screen and it immediately drops back to the main menu. Any suggestions?

  changing channels to revord
Posted by: TomR - 2009-02-13, 01:45 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

I’m having problems recording channels.

Whether I do a quick record for a current or future program or do a manual recording, PVRX2 does not seem to change channels. When looking through the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log it appears to try to change channels but it does not change the channel on my STB. Also it says that it starts recording but it’s recording the wrong channel. (Below are a couple of lines from the log file.)

Any ideas on why it would not be changing channels?

Also, should I be able to use the number keys on the keyboard to change channels in the TVGuide or LiveTV? Or does it have to be done through the remote?

Thanks.

  edited .ts audio issue
Posted by: mian - 2009-02-13, 12:08 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

There are some shows I record that I like to keep, like Lost and 24. I record them in high quality, clean them up, and then burn them to DVD. Most stuff I just watch and delete.

Now that I have an HD tuner, I prefer to record those keepers in HD. I manually remove commercials, by demuxing (using tsmuxer), cutting (using cuttermaran), remuxing (tsmuxer again), and compressing (using mediacoder) to xvid.

Now I'd prefer to use AutoGK for compression, but for some reason, one of the above steps makes it so autoGK cannot find the audio stream in the edited .ts. It's there, my media players and mediacoder have no trouble finding it, but autoGK can't, despite the fact that it has no problems with the same show's .ts before I begin messing with it.

I'm in no hurry to change anything since my current solution works well enough, but I am curious what might be causing the snafu. Any ideas?
