  Recording Questions
Posted by: bbutlerau - 2009-02-11, 08:28 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I just bought a Leadtek DVR1800 H which works beautifuly with GBPVR. I do have a few questions regarding recording HDTV though.
1. What is the best format to auto-convert the recorded .ts file into keeping the HD resoultion and quality as best as possible but not being 7GB for a 60 min show.. im not made of HDD space ( i have a 500GB)
2. Does comskip actually work or can it make you miss parts of a show
3. how can i make the recoding be named something other than the show name and the date, i wouldnt mind it being the prog name and then subtitle (e.g. The simpsons - Treehouse of horror IV.ts)
4. fianlly i have a remote from leadtek that came with the card, which has a faux MCE mode. this works for the ch +/- but thats it. Has anyone had success with this remote

Cheers
Brad

Yikes, Windows 7 clobbered my GBPVR setup!
Posted by: pcrosley - 2009-02-11, 07:18 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I had GBPVR working pretty well and decided to see how things would go with Windows 7.

Apparently a mistake! Installing for dual boot with XP clobbered my wireless connection (not germaine to this thread) and my ability to watch Live TV on my HVR-2200.

I get very grainy images now for TV 2, 3, and Sky (TV1 is clear as usual), and no image (blue screen) but audio for Prime.

Any immediate ideas on what drivers got whacked would be appreciated!

  Database locked during rectracker -purge
Posted by: Gedanken - 2009-02-11, 04:27 AM - Forum: XSuite (Xrecord, XSearch, XGuide, CDK Scheduler) - Replies (3)

I don't use the whole CDK schedule infrastructure but I do make good use of the rectracker mechanism to purge repeats from my scheduled recordings. This has worked great until the last couple releases of GBPVR where I started getting this error when I invoke the command:

rectracker -purge -useOid

It will churn for a while, outputing the expected results and purging the first couple duplicates and then it will hang for about 30 seconds and issue an error:

Error System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteException: The database file is locked

at System.Data.SQLite.SQLite3.Step(SQLiteStatement stmt)
at System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()

at GBPVR.Backend.Common.ScheduleHelper.CancelScheduledRecording(ScheduledRecording scheduledRecording)
at RecTracker.RecordingTracker.purgeWatchedShowsFromSchedule(Boolean bZap)
at RecTracker.RecordingTracker.Main(String[] args)

There are two issues here.
1) The database shouldn't be locked.
2) When the error happens, rectracker still issues a 0 return code/error level so I can't detect the issue in my PostEPGUpdate batch file. This prevented my from working around the database locking issue by putting the call in a loop until the program terminated successfully.

I've got a reasonably large rectracker.mdb file and a good sized gbpvr.db3 database as well, although I have no specific data relating the size of the database to the issue.

I have seen some comments regarding some bugs in the SQLite providers used by GBPVR so I suspect that that might be the issue. I am hoping someone might have a fix to avoid triggering those issues. If it is a bug in the SQLite interface, I was thinking slowing down the query rate might help alleviate the problem.

  Install of Netflix plugin
Posted by: TKS - 2009-02-11, 04:07 AM - Forum: Netflix Watch Now - Replies (3)

I have been unsucessful at installing the netflix plugin. I have the latest version of gbpvr. When I install the plugin it give me some long winded registry error. Then when I run config and goto the plug ins tab all the plug ins are gone. If i launch pvrx2, I get a white screen with a big red x. Do I need the GBPVRCommonUtilities.dll file. I am not sure where to get that, or is it included with 1.3.11? Any help would be great thanks.

  Transcode .ts files
Posted by: Jaggy - 2009-02-11, 12:24 AM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

I am setting up a postprocessing batch file & I am trying to find out the quickest method to transcode SD .ts recordings to .mpgs for playing back on the MVP. I don't care about compressing them at all I just want to be able to fix up timeline errors so I can skip/resume on them.

Using the standard ffmpeg line in my postprocessing batch file

Code:
ffmpeg -y -i "%~dpn1.ts" -vcodec copy -acodec copy "%~dpn1.mpg"
gave me stutter & sync issues.

Using Mencoder
Code:
mencoder "%~dpn1.ts" -oac copy -ovc copy -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd:tsaf -o "%~dpn1.mpg"
gives me good sync etc. but skip is a bit "hit & miss"

Using this line
Code:
ffmpeg -y -i "%~dpn1.ts" -vcodec mpeg2video -b 2400k -acodec mp2 -s 704x576 -f dvd "%~dpn1.mpg" targetExtension=".mpg"
is great but is very very slow to transcode

I have also tried
Code:
ffmpeg -y -i "%~dpn1.ts" -vcodec mpeg2video -me zero -intra -b 2400k -pass 1 -acodec mp2 -s 704x576 -f dvd "%~dpn1.mpg" targetExtension=".mpg"

but it is only slightly faster

I don't have any experience in this field & really don't know what I am doing.....help:o

  Questions
Posted by: elbryyan - 2009-02-10, 09:58 PM - Forum: Netflix Watch Now - Replies (2)

I just signed up for the Netflix 2 week trial becasue I really wanted to give this plugin a try. I have my test setup with 1.3.11 installed, copy the plugin files, add the patch from 1.0.2.6rc1. I then try and download a few movies but get the error 'no data streams available'. I read that that may be because I need to use the silverlight player so I change that in the config and I can now watch movies.

It seems that it opens another window of internet explorer to watch the movie via the player. I then maximize the window and tell it to use full screen but will I always have to do this? How do you get back to GBPVR once the movie is complete? Is there something else I need to do? Thanks.

Script.cgi - how to reference another share?
Posted by: Rudgey - 2009-02-10, 08:51 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (5)

Hi.

I am just setting up GB-PVR with a Popocrn Hour A100 and Windows Home Server. Making progress but need help.

In the CGI script I have the line 'mount -t cifs //192.168.0.8/mvpmc /etc/mvpmc/ -o username=mark,rw;'

The MVPMC share is not at the root of C: i.e. C:\MVPMC it is D:\shares\MVPMC. It is shared correctly in WHS and I can see it and access it from the Popcorn Hour as Network Share. The user name is the same as teh one used when accessing the share from the Popcorn Hour.

Do I need to reference it differently in the CGI script?

Many thanks

Mark

  Connectinon questions

Can someone help me with the best way to connect my STB, HDTV and GBPVR PC?

I guess I have 2 options:

Option 1 - have HDTV from STB go directly to television, and have DVR on input #2. I dont think I have the horsepower to record HDTV so I am leaning toward this.

Option 2 - Have GBPVR do everything

Any suggestions?

Creative HS-1200 plays nicely with GB-PVR (headset)
Posted by: nkh - 2009-02-10, 08:14 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

I got the headset for gaming, but I couldn't help trying it with GB-PVR, and it's pretty impressive how well things works out of the box. First of all, it's neat to be able to change the audio device from the GB-PVR menu (Settings), 'cos this is sometimes a problem in other programs where you have to go through the Windows control panel to switch audio output. But the coolest thing is how the buttons on the side of the headset (volume and an "answer call" ment to be used with something like Skype), works with GB-PVR. Using the volume buttons brings up the volume bar in GB-PVR and the "answer call" button works as a pause button! I dunno if Sub intentionally integrated headsets like this, but it works beautifully Smile
