So now that I have been using my new HVR-2250 to record OTA ATSC shows to dvr-ms files its just been a pain.

The show records fine and if I play them back using PowerDVD (7.3) they play pretty well (very little choppy-ness, but if you look real hard you can see some occasionally, CPU railed). If I play the same file in GBPVR it is real choppy all of the time. By choppy I mean the video stops for a second and then continues to play and the whole time the CPU is 90-100%.

Is my system to lightweight to handler the HD content or is there another deeper issue?

I can't really upgrade my whole system for this, so my other thought was to convert the video to something else. But after hours of trying and searching web/GBPVR I haven't found a solution that works well. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be helpful.

I have been using ver 1.3.7 for a while with my Nova-t 500 dual DVB-T tuner card with great sucess
I got a Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 card to try with the UK freesat service , just got dish fitted yesterday.

I am having some serious problems with the new card , namely channel scans can crash config.exe
And if I use a scan cache from some of the posts here I can tune to the channel fine when
mapping digital channels to epg screen ( small window preview ) , but if I run up pvrx2 and
select that channel the pvrx2 crashes within about 6 seconds ( the picture/sound is fine for those 6 seconds)

I have tried using the card with progdvb6 and it works fine , I have tried several versions of drivers.
I have also tried the newer version of gb pvr 1.3.11 and I have the same problem.
I am just trying to tune to normal SD channels that are not encrypted , aint even got to trying HD yet.

Has anyone else got freesat working with a Nova HD S2 card ?

I spent ages at it today to no avail , sub can you help me out please.

I see that on the Net Radio tab there is a "favorites" option - how do I add favorites to Net Radio?

Also - is there any way to expand the selections presented (i.e. search for more programs?)

I have searched and can find nothing about this problem. When I click on Live TV the program does nothing. I have tried looking for anything I can find in the config dialog and nothing seems to work. Also, I can not receive any channels from my tuner. (I have listed my setup below)

Also, is there anyway of getting the OSD (windows taskbar and gbpvr filebar) off while the program is running? I am planning on using the PC strictly as a PVR and don't really want these bars showing on screen.

No sure if this a wish list item but I'm sure there used to be a shortcut to GBPVRtray.exe on the start menu. In recent builds it doesn't seem to be there any more - I find it handy when you find the tray useful sometimes (like when installing/testing new things) but don't want it to always run on startup (which seems to be the default).

There are many of us who want to use multi-record and therefore TS files however we have MVPs which don't natively support playing TS files.

Transcoding has proved problematic with the various types of differing broadcast formats.

Several of us have tried using the mvpmc dongle in emulation mode and find the mvp will play a SD TS file without transcode to mpg. Unfortunately the skip functions do not work and the timeline shows incorrectly.

I understand why this is however it's been discovered that if the file is renamed to .mpg the file plays well with all the required functionality (assuming the TS file actually contains a valid timeline)

Would it be possible to include an option for the MVP in the config.xml that tells GBPVR to treat playback of .ts files as if they were .mpg files.

This could make for easy MVP playback of .ts files, may allow us to watch a file whilst recording and possibley even watch live TV (via timeshift). It would be a big improvement on having to transcode everything.

What do you think?

(It's understood this wouldn't work for HD TS files.)

Hi all.

a year ago i tried to set-up GB-PVR and partially succeeded. Problem was I could not make my PC to control cable box, and the tuner I got (ADS MCE-3000) produced bad video quality using RF input, (AV video quality recording is acceptable). Another thing that through me back was free guide – it was too much hustle to deal with.

Given that “recording PC” was my promise to my 8 y.o. and she did not have any intensions to let it go, I ended up setting up for her DVR based on cheap licenced MCE 2002. It does what my daughter needs – SD recording of her favorite cartoons automatically, pretty stable and without any interaction from me.

As per my taste I’d like to give another try to this great project. I’d like to setup low-end HTPC based on a spare PC I have. All I need is an external tuner.

Here are specs for the potential HTPC:

Toshiba LCD 42” 720p (DVI input)
Low-profile Dell PC with 2.8GHz P-4 HT (800 MHz FSB)
1 GB DDR-3200 RAM
500GB SATA-1 HDD (I’m willing to upgrade if I’ll make it work for HD playback)
GeForce 6200 low-profile card
XP SP-3

Here are my questions:

1. I can network both PCs. Where in MCE 2002 Guide stored? I want to run import guide utility on daily basis to get listings from one pc into GB-PVR PC.
2. I need external tuner with QAM capability and good video quality over RF. Given that GeForce 6200 AGP video card CAN BE a bottleneck for HD playback I might do not need HD tuner (on other hands external tuner can be transferred to more power PC someday…) I’m thinking about HDHomeRun card, but I’m not sure at all. As far as I understood it cannot be used in pair with cable box in even I’ll decide to subscribe to scrambled channels…. What else can you suggest?
3. also I’m not sure if IR blaster capability to control cable box is part of the tuner or it’s something that can be purchased separately and a tuner card independent feature.

I have (from one I now read, a rather lemon like) 780g based gigabyte board, with a 4850e athlon running XP & gbpvr. I have managed to get it to the point where 99% of the stuff I run I'm happy with. Most video is fine, I get no tearing and I'm a happy boy. However, I have two issues left and need help!

The first is playing ISO's - I've installed daemontools "lite" from their website, pointed gbpvr at the correct folder & drive, but when I hit play on the iso, I just get a black screen for 20 seconds or so and then dumped back to the videos menu. Where am I going wrong?

The second is the one which I suspect is going to cause me some pain...
I have a two 1080p videos that play, but the audio drops out of sync after the first few seconds, ocassionaly totally drops then comes back out of sync again (like 5-10 seconds or so). Framerate playing seems ok (no choppyness), and the processor is running about 70-80% (so not maxed out, but I'm also assuming not using HA). Watching them in MPC I can see the jitter climbs and climbs and seems to match the delay in the audio. I'm guessing this is due to my box not having enough horsepower for the video, but I'm confused as other 1080p stuff plays without a hitch and when watching, it doesn't seem to drop more than a frame every few seconds or so.

Is the answer to get HA working on the 780g? Is this even possible? I'd really rather not have to add another gfx card, as the whole point of this was that it's energy efficient and almsot totally fanless..

As an aside, I was thinking of replacing my PVR-150 card with an Nova S2 HD card. Am I a glutton for punishment....?

I occasionally get some choppy bits when recording HDTV (OTA/ATSC). It's really evident with moving frames with a LOT of data that doesn't compress well (like that really busy rock wall texture Faraday was looking at in the Lost premiere opening).


Anyway, I think I've narrowed it down to the recording of the DVR-MS, as it's always in the same spot, and h.264 versions of the same video play back OK.

The CPU utilization when recording is fairly low at around 10%, so I don't think that's the bottleneck.

So is it my Capture Card or HD?

If it is the capture card, is the newer 2250 any better? Any other suggestions?

I think I've got the guts of this done and I'd like to check format and naming.

3 Main plugins:

• I've updated the meta view xml's
  
• I've renamed "Slick" to "CS Blue - Slick" and included the list-background.png required. I'm proposing that the CSplugin loads this graphic from here. This then allows for future versions like Reflect - Slick and Glow - Slick each with their own specific list-background.png graphic.
  
• I've included the standard (multi view) XML in a folder called Standard - we could go with Standard View, Default or Default View something like that ???
  

• I've added the 3 main vertical mainmenu layouts (left, center, right)
  
• I've been thinking with the Horizontal and slick views but I think there is a bug with how GB handles the Background Mask.png here. It loads it initially but when you return to the mainmenu form a plugin view it no longer loads. I was trying to use this graphic to create the same effect, since the plugin is already setup to load a Background Mask.png. These views aren't show stoppers for me personally, and if required we can easily borrow subs graphics and layout for slick until we get something worked out.
  

• Added the 5 different views previously discussed
  
• I haven't added any live-guide.xml formatting yet. How do you guys think we should add this?, as a separate choice or some kind of complimentary layout based on the actual TVGuide.xml chosen.
  

• I wasn't exactly sure how to format this, here's how I presently have it. 2 sub folders - Internal Graphics and External Graphics. Internal Graphics folder has 2 files - Blue.xml and Black.xml and uses GB to generate the OSD graphics. External Graphics folder has 2 folders - Blue and Black, each contain the skin.xml and the 6 separate png's that make up the OSD (the plugin could then load the graphics based on the colour chosen)
  
• I have also made up a photoshop file for ControlIcons (this enables me to create various colour options). These are the transport controls that appear when you move the mouse in the OSD. They may also be useful to media plugins that may require transport controls. I don't really know what to suggest, implementation wise, but the option of multiple coloured control/transport icons is there.
  

• I'm not sure what to call this folder - Layout, Main Layout, Global Layout, Master Layout ???
