  Movie download services
Posted by: mrcheapo - 2009-02-04, 10:12 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hi,

Is anyone using a movie download rental service here?

UK available services such as Channel 4's seem to be Kontiki based (bandwidth hogging p2p comes bundled free :madSmile
I've also taken a look at lovefilm.com and tescodigital.com which seem to have a pretty limited range just now for online download rentals.

Amazon Unbox looks pretty decent but hasn't arrived from over the atlantic properly yet.

I know it's almost always going to be MS DRM infected/infested but I can live with that if I really must if it's only for nightly rentals rather than to own.

My big requirement is that I'm paying as I go rather than having a subscription charge.

My plan was just to hook to the media pc or a laptop to the lounge TFT to watch.

Has anyone here had any joy with an existing UK available service?

Thanks for any pointers. Cool

script for converting dvr-ms to xvid?
Posted by: mi2k - 2009-02-04, 07:27 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

I am looking for a script to transcode all dvr-ms (mpeg2, 480i previously recorded through gbpvr) files in a directory to xvid. I am able to do so one at a time using the transcode button pvrx2. I am on xp/sp3. Thanks in advance.

  Use second monitor?
Posted by: jmontana - 2009-02-04, 07:16 PM - Forum: Netflix Watch Now - Replies (4)

I've got one monitor hooked up to my PC, which is monitor #1, and is generally turned off. I just use it for admin sorts of things. Monitor #2 is my TV, and that's what I view GBPVR on.

Netflix Watch Now always starts up on monitor #1. Is there any way to change it to start up on monitor #2? Maybe have it check the GBPVR flag for the second monitor?

gbpvr displays only white screen window in vista 32
Posted by: bdplaid - 2009-02-04, 06:41 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi,
I'm new to this software, but when it works it's great!

I just installed on a Vista 32 laptop, with no errors on install. Tried to run gbpvr, and a window comes up, but with only a white screen inside. not a menu nor anything else. config seems to work ok, but i can't really tell since gbpvr won't work.

.NET 1, 2 and 3.5 are installed. I tried to reinstall .NET 2, but Vista says it's already installed. I uninstalled gbpvr with no other results.

I tried to install tuners, with the same white screen result. I tried running with no tuners installed, same result.

The EPG is not yet installed.

So I'm stymied. Any help appreciated.

Some channels are not working and other newby questions
Posted by: pduncan67 - 2009-02-04, 06:17 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

(very) new user here...
System info - not in front of my PC currently so sorry if my details are not 'detailed' enough...
- Dell Dimension 2400 (PCI architecture), ~712(?) MB RAM, P4 2.8 GHz
=======
I am using a Haupaugge PVR-1600 capture card and comcast cable (no STB).
Playback of live TV is great, but some channels (History channel is one I know for sure) are 'missing' - they show up when I scan for channels but when I try to watch that channel it is all just static. Any ideas?
=======
My recorded shows - the video looks great, but audio 'stutters' and sounds like it is slowed down a bit. Could this be caused by my audio settings in config? - or possibly - could this be a limitation of video memory? I know the mimimum requirements are 64 MB video Ram. I am shopping for a new card but currently only have 16 MB. BTW - I have the same issue when using the 'native' software that was installed when I set up the capture card.
========
My capture card came w/ a remote. It appears to have basic functionality w/ GBPVR (channel up/down, volume up/down) but that's about it. I could not find documentation on how to set it up - I did see some key mapping threads but could not translate that into steps I need to take to remedy.
=============

BTW - in my first posts I asked for help w/ picking the right hardware and the general consensus was to dump the Dell and get a board that supported PCIe. But I found a (PCI) PVR-1600 on sale ($69 on closeout at Circuit City) and now it looks like I am going w/ the original plan of recycling the Dell into a makeshift HTPC.

With the help of member Johnsonx42 I think I am going with this video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814139038

Recordings crashing to menu about 1/2 way through
Posted by: teookie - 2009-02-04, 05:28 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

Running 1.3.11, everything -was- working fine up till a few days ago. Now when I try to watch a recording it will crash out to the recordings menu when the recording is about 50% through.

The recordings show as "ready", none show as "failed".

The first time I noticed this I was watching the super bowl. Everything was great until suddenly it crashed to the menu. So I started it up again, only to find out that while I could skip to where it crashed, it wouldn't go any farther and crashed again. I tried this 3 or 4 times. So I went to my recordings folder and checked the file size. The game was still on and according the the vista gadget it was still being recorded, but the file size was not getting any bigger. At the specified time, the "recording" stopped, and was labeled as "ready".

Same story for two other programs recently.

Is this a problem thats been encountered/solved before? I could not find anything with search.

Could installing plugins cause anything like this? I've put in the weather, cinema, and netflix plugins recently. They all work except for netflix which I disabled in config (I should probably uninstall it too). This seams improbable but I really haven't touched any settings except to add plugins.

I may as well say this too, even though it's probably not related: The whole computer freezes up now when I try to map digital channels to EPG. I found this out trying to add 1 measly channel to my lineup. Also, I can't channel surf anymore w/o a crash back to the guide. -sigh-

I'm baffled with all this, cause honestly, it was all working fantastically and I really don't think I changed anything!

I will provide logs if requested after I get home from work. I'm am leaning heavily towards a GBPVR re-install...

  PVR-250 Streaming Live TV
Posted by: jmsta - 2009-02-04, 05:19 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Is there a way to properly stream Live TV from the PVR-250 without re-encoding at lower quality? I can use VLC on a client computer and open up the MPG file in the LIVE TV buffer folder which kind of works. but I would like to stream the MPG stream that the PVR-250 creates with out re-compressing it is that possible?

Thanks,
Josh

  controlling (ffdshow) resize
Posted by: dbbd - 2009-02-04, 05:04 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Different media files that I play come in different aspect ratios.
I found that I can control the resize of ffdshow to get full screen, but
I need different settings for different files.

Is it possible to always have the correct resize to full screen resolution?
Is it possible to control resize during playback? how?

Thanks,
Dan

  Recording information corrupt
Posted by: agerdin - 2009-02-04, 03:38 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

My recording information are all corrupt and I have now started to restore the information but I am running into problems.

Using the tool VidImport I have restored the information but all Swedish characters are incorrect. I then exported the recordings and corrected the characters in the recording_dump.xml file.

Now, I would like to import the corrected file but I get the information that all recordings already exists. How do I clear the stored recording info in the db so that an import would take?

Thanks,

\\Agerdin

  Serial/USB IR Blaster
Posted by: BlokeWithBeard - 2009-02-04, 02:18 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

Hi folks,

After some time of observing the forums looking for answers while building a test rig the time has come to bit the bullet and get a system built for purpose.

I have a Silverstone GD01-MX case turning up in the next couple of days, which brings me to my point; As the case has an inbuilt IR receiver I'd rather not have to use an external USB reciever to hang an IR blaster off to control the Sky box (I plan to feed the Sky box in via a S-VHS connection on a capture card for recording).

Is anyone aware of either a USB or Serial IR Transmitter that would be supported or usable? Hardware wise I've found a serial transmitter usable with MythTV, but with out software of some kind it's pretty useless. All suggestions welcome.

I've done the usual forum search, but couldn't find anything, which could well be me. Apologies if the answer is there I couldn't find it. Smile
