So we could change things and save them without having to exit and re-enter config. Expecially when mapping digital channels, which at least on my system tends to lock up more than not, thereby losing all my settings I had made before the lockup.
I have some channels that will pop up the message "This channel is currently encrypted" and show signal and strength bars of 0. Immediately after that pops up, it displays the video correctly and audio plays. Is there a setting that will disable encryption detection or delay it?
GBPVR is reasonably stable for me after having it installed for several months and figuring out the best codecs etc for my system. However, I have a niggling problem or two with audio.
After GBPVR has been running for an hour or two, the OSD for the volume level dissapears. I can still adjust the volume from my MCE remote, but the OSD (just for the volume) will never come back unless I exit out of GBPVR and restart it.
I could live with that problem, but I have another problem that is a bit more annoying. After several hours of running GBPVR, audio will die completely. This happens at least once a day and can even happen overnight when GBPVR is backed out to the main menu. Again, the fix is to exit out of GBPVR and restart it.
I run XP SP3 and am using a TwinHan AD-SE200 (DVB-S). Anyone else seeing these problems?
I'm very new to GBPVR and PCH. As an experiment I have ripped a DVD as ISO as well as MKV (AAC & x264). I've configured the GBPVR to look at the directory where the MKV file exists but I can't play it from the DVD library in GBPVR.
A search of the forums gives me the following:

That looks ugly but you only have to set it up once for each location. Notice that each \ is doubled and each space is also preceded by a \ Other characters that need special attention include [ ] { } ( ) " ' and & If you do use these characters it is probably best to test using telnet avoiding some of these characters is best.
Once you restart telnet.html, you can confirm that it worked via telnet using this command
ls mnt/D\:\\My\ DVD\ Collection/
If it worked you you should see the files root of your collection. You can specify any username and password too the files do not have to be in a guest account.

Is this inforformation still correct as the post date is some time ago? Does this mean DVDs appear outside of GBPVR or can I still view them via the GBPVR DVD library?
I am looking for a DVB-C device, preferrably USB or PCI-Express. The cable provider doesnt use any encryption so far. I am having trouble finding one for my needs.
I have looked at Hauppauge's site but they have devices for DVB-T mostly and I couldnt find any in USB. I have also looked at FloppyDTV but it has some strange claims on its website like a single card will fit in a PCI or PCI-Express slot and that it will fit in a floppy bay. Very strange.
I am also very confused by all the DVB-x standards. Will a DVB-S device work in my case? How about a DVB-T? :confused:
I thought I'd move this to the wishlist area, in case sub reviews this area before releasing the next version.

Thanks for the reply. If it's easy to implement, it would help for this case (channel=PID) and when working with different groups of channels - by just adding a digit in front. Cable becomes 1000-1999. OTA 2000-2999, sats etc.
I'll suggest another feature you might want to add when working in this area of the code - When there's a request to jump direct to a nonexistent channel number, jump to the closest number that does exist or the next higher number. Currently it doesn't jump. I often want to jump to the 200 area or the 1000 area and have to remember some key channels that do exist (like 213 or 998) to get close to that area so that I can then scroll around. Some suppliers organize channels by subject (Sports, etc) and getting close would be helpful. Thanks for a great program!
My upgrade of the media centre to a Pentium D to handle HD, has been a string of problems.
This one is odd.
Here's the sequence of events:
Play a recording
blank screen
escape back
play recording again
black screen, but recording details display
escape back
play recording a third time
works.
Intersting item in logs - "File already in use - probably still recording" - could this be the smoking gun. (But the file should not be in use, and it is not 'still recording')
I'm trying to find a solid solution for watching and recording LiveTV on several TVs, other media (pictures, music etc.) being of secondary importance.
GBPVR sounds really interresting, but even after searching the forum and wiki, I've got a lot of unresolved question. Here's the setup:
MediaPC
The PC I'll be using as media center is a 4GB, Core2 Quad PC running Vista 64-bit.
This PC will handle all media, including the TV signal (2-3 tuners) and will be locked up in the basement (inaccessible).
Ethernet wired hardware extender are needed for each TV set. GBPVR Question: Does GBPVR work on Vista 64-bit?
Tuners
The signal is cable (DVB-C). Analogue signal is free, but all digital content is subscription based, so I'll need digital tuners with CI, Irdeto CAM modules and a valid subscription card pr. tuner.
So far the only DVB-C tuners featuring CI supporting this seems to be FireDTV and Terratech Cinergy, the latter selling at about half the price of the former. GBPVR Question 1: Does GBPVR support this setup? GBPVR Question 2: If so, is FireDTV so much better than the Terratech to validate twice the cost?

I've read a lot about the GBPVR client for the Popcorn Hour media streamer, but I can't figure out if this client is still very alpha. GBPVR Question: Is the PCH/GBPVR combo ready for general use (rest of the familiy), who will primary use it for LiveTV and TV recording/viewing?
