OK, so I shouldn't be fooling with my just received HDHR and I brought home lots of work from the office but the kid in me wants to play.
So far, it set up very well......11 stations found on 1 computer, 22 on another??? No worries yet but I'm having some 'age heimers' in getting the setup to work in GBPVR. Whurlston's info has been very helpful and I have the absolute latest software (beta) but I'm confused with teh guide names and nubmers. My local station for CBS is 3 WWL for analog, 4.1 WWLDT for ATSC and 704 WWLDT for HD. No matter what I put in the guide number, I'm still getting analog. So, what do I put in for the guide number? Or maybe, I need a new lineup for SD.

Is there any chance of adding the .m4v extension to the list of types that get on-the-fly transcoding for the MVP? I'm currently using the work around of renaming them *.m4v.avi which works, but I have to rename files whenever I want to use them on another device.
This first time I have tried using the transcode option in the Video Library. Is there some indicator that the transcoding is finished or does the trancoding log its events anywhere?
I know this might not initially sound like it should be in the hardware forum, but you'll see that it should be.
Here's my current situation:
- Reside in the USA
- No problems with a rather overpowered and dedicated HTPC (although it could probably use a storage upgrade)
- 1 PVR150 and 1 PVR500 (for a total of three ANALOG tuners)
- The worst cable provider on the planet -- Comcrap...I mean, Comcast
- I have not really pursued any HD recording because Comcast currently provides ZERO clear QAM and I didn't want to mess with ATSC, antennas, etc.
Here's my problem/dilemma:
Comcast has already started bumping up a lot of their basic cable channels up into the "Digital Package" that they offer only at a significant price increase and it requires use of one of their stupid STBs (which is an additional $5/month). Four out of five of my TVs have digital tuners, but again I still won't be able to get some of the digital channels because Comcast is greedy and has limited access to these previously "basic" channels to those customers with STB's. The FAF (Family Acceptance Factor) is now at an all-time low because the latest channel to go digital is Cartoon Network, so my children missed the second to the last episode Total Drama Island. This is a serious problem (for them and therefore me). This is annoying to me because I've never had to use a STB before and I don't really feel like renting three STB's from Comcast for $15/month in order to cover all three of my GBPVR tuners. I know that in February 2009, I'm screwed with the tuner cards that I have because they're analog, but I didn't expect for Comcast to start the conversion 3 months early.
Here's my question:
Is there any GBPVR solution that can help me? You have to understand, my wife is looking at me with that Tivo or Comcast DVR look in her eyes (even though my wonderful GBPVR system has served her very well for years now!), so I really need a viable solution.
Here's what I was thinking:
Replace my PVR150 and PVR500 with two HVR1600 cards. I could use the digital side of each card to record whatever digital channels that Comcast decides to allow me to access without a STB, and then maybe hook up one STB to the analog tuner on one of the HVR1600's for access to the other channels.
Would this work like I'm thinking, and even if it would work would be relatively simple to configure and maintain (by that I mean like my current 3-tuner configuration, which I consider a simple setup and it has been relatively easy to maintain) or would it be a kludge solution that would require frequent tinkering (like every time the stupid Comcast channel lineup changes, which is often) and an unreliable success rate for recording?
I'm really hoping to keep GBPVR, but the combination of this stupid DTV thing and Comcast is really messing that up for me. I've come to value the opinion and expertise of the members here, and would appreciate any advice you can offer.
Is there any way, or a plug in, that will allow the sorting of videos, music, pictures etc in a different way from just alpha-numeric of the file/folder name?
i.e. ability to sort the display by alpha, size, date, ascending, descending etc??
I have my HTPC set to hibernate after 15 minutes of inactivity. Problem is when I'm watching a recorded video and then I pause the video to go do something (wife keeps making me do stuff), the computer will still hibernate after 15 minutes even though the PVRX2 interface is running. Then when I resume it, PVRX2 is jacked up and I have to restart the interface and find my place in the video again, etc....
Do I just tell the wife to leave me alone, or is there some way to prevent the computer from hibernating while PVRX2 is running but not recording?
dumb question, but here goes. In TV guide, I can choose to record either a single episode, reoccuring timeslot, or the entire season (there may be more options, but this is what I have in my head).
Now to cancel a recording, it appears that I only have the option of canceling a single occurance, so now I go and delete individual occurances, or just delete them as they get recorded.
I have found a bug. Navigating the categories will result in a wall if you have a Locked category. For example, I have a locked category called "Explicit" and the cat above that is Drama, so when I am going through the categories I get stuck at Drama, Unless I unlock the viewer.
To get around this temporaraly I have changed it to Xplicit, putting it at the end.
I'm having an issue that I am unable to resolve where recordings will freeze up and cause gbpvr to stop responding when I am trying to skip ahead or skip back. It seems more common when pressing the skip back button after moving to far ahead.
My observation is that during during playback of a recording in progress, the skip seems faster and more responsive and the freezing does not occur. I can skip back and forth until the recording is finished and it does not freeze.
My question. Is there a different splitter or something that may be used during the playback of the recording in progress and playing a recording that is finished? If so, is there a way to make them the same?
