Yet another guy trying to squeeze a QAM signal out of a comcast feed. I was just wondering. Are there any thresholds for QAM signal strength and or quality? The GBPVR tells me I have channels at anywhere from 1000 to 3000 strength, adn the quality may be in the 70s or 80s for some cahnnels. Is there a target that I am shooting for?
On my daily browsing of Engdaget.com I noticed a new graphics card from S3 which claims to do HD calculations on board rather than takling from the CPU. It also has HDMI and DVI out. Wondered what people thought of this as a HTPC graphics card?
I have just moved to Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and I have pretty much got all of GBPVR migrated to the new OS. However the DVBT Radio Plugin service refuses to start saying that the service failed to respond in a timely fashion.
A bit of investigation in to the problem leads me to beleve it is related to the way that the service identifies the default GBPVR directory. I think this could be the problem because the error message that is returned when i try to manually install the service is:

A few things to mention,GBPVR is installed in vista 64's default program files directory, i.e 'Program Files (x86)' rather than just program files. I tried to install it in the standard location but the GBPVR MSI package always ends up installing it in the default x86 version of the directory. :confused:
DVBT Radio did used to work fine and only stopped working on the transition to the new OS.
Will slimm tray prevent ALL standby / shutdown events during recording? I seem to remember a post somewhere that it wouldn't recognize some events but I can't find the info now as to which ones.

Registry setting DeleteComskipFiles removed and replaced with DeleteExtensionsAfterPlayback. This contains a list of extensions that will be recycled by SlimmGBPVR after playback of a file has finished. For example, given the extensions ".log;.fif" and a recording filename of "C:\recording.mpg", SlimmGBPVR will attempt to recycle "C:\recording.log", "C:\recording.fif", "C:\recording.mpg.log" and "C:\recording.mpg.fif".
Added ability to sort lists of recordings. It is used to reorder the items in the reoccurring menu.
SlimmGBPVR now supports gif, png and jpg ChannelLogos. Requested by b00sfuk.
/playing switch added. Requested by liteswap. Note: this information actually reports which completed recordings have their files locked. A file is locked when it is being played but it will also be locked when transcoding is taking place or Windows is creating a thumbnail, for example, so it may not always produce the expected result.

But is it worth spending so little on a remote to use with GBPVR..?
The answer depends on exactly what you want.
I wanted just basic functionality to assist me in my laziness when watching my PC monitor from afar, but if you want a good remote that you can customize all the keys for - then look elsewhere...
But, dont be put off, have a read of how I have set up the remote using HIP to see if it is worth it for you.
There are a tons of keys on the Cyberlink remote, but unfortunately nearly all cannot be programed. HIP cannot see the keys, niether can EventGhost or Girder4.
You will be left with (as far as I can figure out) 5 keys to configure using HIP - but all is not lost as some of the keys work straight away in GBPVR!
In the centre of the remote are 4 directional arrow keys and a large 'OK' button. These move around the GBPVR menus perfect and also work well in the liveTV with the up and down arrows controling the channel and the left and right fast forward or rewinding - great!
There is a section of number keys which work straight away in GBPVR but because of that they cannot be customized.
You already have most of the basic functions you need, but being able to go 'back' to a previous menu is a certain requirement. Lucky there is a set of 12 keys in a white area of the remote, and very lucky that only one is programable, and extremely lucky is the fact it is labeled 'back. So, using HIP I have bound that button to the 'ESC' key to allow me to move between menus.
Towards the lower end of the remote are the keys 'play','pause' etc, non of which work in GBPVR but do in Media Player - the bad news is they are also not programable. However the 'stop' and 'next track','previous track' keys are!
I have bound the stop key to ^Q which will pause liveTV.
I have bound the previous track key to ^W to flick me back to the last channel watched.
I have bound the next track key to ^G which brings up the mini guide overlay.
Last but not least there is a 'clear' key at the bottom left of the remote, I have bound this to ^K to record.
I now have a large remote thatg does hardly anything at all - BUT it does perform the most needed option in GBPVR when viewing from about 10 foot away from your PC.
At a price of £5.99 it is good value and provides basic functionality, but if the price was any higher then it would probably be worth looking at a better remote.
I hope this review has helped anyone out there who loves GBPVR as much as I do and wants to use a remote but is on a tight budget.
Just installed 1.3.7 and im trying to use a cheap remote i bought of the internet with it. However whenever i click the New button in the USB-UIRT window, to start the learning process; a window pops up saying to press and hold 1 and then almost instantly the software crashes with a Windows XP error appearing asking if i want to send the error report.
I have a Hauppauge 500 capture card (dual tuner) and have configured it accordingly. However, every time I start "live TV" I get a pop up stateting "hcwirblast.dll cannot be found". If I accept this using my keyboard, the remote works fine.
Any ideas? I have reloaded the hauppauge app several times and searched for the .dll but to no avail
