I'm getting ready to buy a new pc. I built my last two, but I don't feel like going through the hassles involved, so I'm thinking about a pre-built system. I worked with Dell's at my last job, and I found them to be a pain to upgrade. They only had one bay for mounting a hard drive, and the drive cable only had one connector!

My brother has a Gateway, and it seems to be designed with upgrades in mind. It has a toolless case, and a space for mounting an additional hard drive. I'm thinking about this one http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDe...oid=207699 , but I have a few reservations, and I thought I'd ask the experts here at GB-PVR for their opinions on this system.

I would be using the pc for analog sd video capture from a Win TV PVR USB2, and editing and converting the files to avi for playback on standalone dvd players. I'd also like to be able to play hd files that I download. I'm not into pc gaming. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Totally unrelated to GB-PVR but I thought I'd throw this in to the arena to see if anyone had any thoughts.

I have some friends running Windows 98SE and using Outlook Express v6 for email. A few days ago they started OE to find their Inbox was empty - this is the second time in about two months.

I've checked the machine over (twice) - they have an up to date anti-virus setup and, in general, the machine is quite stable. One thought was the Inbox.dbx file was being deleted but I checked it and the creation date is October 2006. None of the other folders are affected - they have a few which they've created themselves and they all retain the emails in them as do the Deleted Items and Sent Items folders. I also checked Deleted Items to see if the missing Inbox items were in there but that wasn't the case.

OE doesn't have an auto-archive function, and the closest thing to it (the Cleanup option) only affects the Deleted Items folder as far as I know.

I've drawn a blank on this - Google doesn't bring up anything that applies to what's happening.

In some ways it all points back to the Inbox.dbx being corrupt but OE doesn't throw any errors when accessing it and after a 'vanishing email' occurence, they can continue using it with incoming mails going into the Inbox without problem.

Any thoughts/suggestions gratefully received.

I dont know if it'll remain part of the application long term, as I prefer to only deal with hardware encoder devices, but I've attached a patch that will enable analog support on some Hauppauge software encoder devices (like HVR3000/4000 analog side).

To use this, you also need to have the Hauppauge SoftMCE software installed.

I havnt really tested it, but if anyone gives it a go, let me know how you get on.

You all can read my stats below on what i currently have running in my home. I recently invited over a coworker who had some computer questions about networking and such. I showed him my pvrs and he was amazed. I also showed him the wiki for gbpvr and after much talking, he has come to want to build a system for his house. While I have quite a setup, this guy wants to go all out. However, there are some roadblocks that I need help and advice with from the awesome users and developers here.

Here are the roadblocks:
-He has one machine that he can upgrade/change to a server. He has 4 tvs he wants to connect as clients. What does he need hardware wise to support 4 clients and 6 tuners.

-His house is completely finished and all 4 clients need to be wireless if possible. What is the best option to accomplish this? Is live TV even an option doing this? I am not sure for wireless what would be viable/better an MVP or the new Popcorn hour?

-He will be using Dish network, I currently use cable, aside from the guide, is there anything else different he needs to be aware of?

-If he does get HD boxes from the dish company, what tuner cards will I need to accept the signals?

Any other advice users and/or sub can provide would be excellent. Just to note, the first thing I told him when I started talking about gbpvr was how excellent the people are on this forum and how patient both the forum members and Sub are when helping to fix issues. I appreciate any advice you people can offer, i want to give my friend the best setup he can get.

I want to install GBPVR now even though I don't have a tuner card yet. Will this create problems? I can still use it to do everything else except watch TV right?

Also, I'd be interested in general setup tips if anyone would like to share. This will be my first PVR build/setup. Here's my hardware in case anyones advice is "hardware specific":

Oh yea, my goal here is to have a HD PVR. When I get a tuner card it will likely be the Haupauge (spelling?) HD 1600 PCI or whatever that does clear QAM. I get the networks in HD, and bunch of other channels in standard def. I'm toying with the idea of putting an antenna in the attic though since my cable company compresses the HD channels to much - but I digress.

Everything worked well until the H.D. is broken :-(

Now to see the files with the .mpg extension I must set "overlay manager" in "config > playback" and with this setting the OSD are almost illegible.
If I set "vmr9" I see "avi-mkv" files good, the characters in OSD are good but with .mpg files the rest of the screen is black.

how can I fix it?

I am setting up a new pvr and am using GB-PVR as a first time user!

My pc has 2 Hauppauge nova hd-s2 cards.

I have a sky card and a reader, so am going to use MDAPI to enable my reader and decode my channels - I think I am ok with how to do this.

I just wondered if it is possible to also get ITV HD... I know that this is a freesat only channel, but as it is on the same sat band as sky I was hoping I could tune it in ok and watch...

I have kicked off my scan based on Astra 2a, 2b, 2d.. I noticed that eurobird is not in the list...

Can I get ITV HD in amongst the regular sky pull?

Hello.

I just got a new HD and would like to move my recordings to it. It will have a different drive letter and path than the original location. Im thinking I can just export the recordings to Xml, move them to the new drive, update the xml export to point to the new path, and then import them? Will that update the references to the recordings in the database?

In config playback tab I've changed the forward skip size in seconds to 30, and back skip size to 10.

No matter what I set these to, it will skips forward by 10 seconds and back by 10.

Is there something I should check to see why this is happening?

I scheduled a show to record and picked Divx has the preferred transcode.

In config (processing tab) I see that it's scheduled to perform these actions between 1am and 6am.

Auto convert DVR-MS is still set to "No converstion".

1. Will it convert my selected recordings above to Divx?

2. Does this Auto convert option in config convert EVERYTHING to Divx?

3. When reviewing all the recurring recordings, it's not possible to see or change your preferred transcoding. Is there a place to do this?
