  Sideloading uidroid
Posted by: mvallevand - 2021-10-16, 03:31 PM - Forum: Android - Replies (9)

Currently I am not making uidroid available via the Google or Amazon stores, I don't need the bureaucracy. Fortunately, it is not too hard to side load the app and there are many approaches to do doing it. This wiki although referencing the FireTV is applicable to pretty much all Android based device https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_on_Fire_TV

A favourite method explained on that link is adbLink Using adLink can also be useful for getting the logs from your device if I ever ask for them.

Once the app is installed, if your remote as the menu button you can move to the app area of your launcher. You can also hold the dpad centre while selecting the the app to get the Move option.

If you have questions on sideloading uidroid post them here.

  Media file playback problems
Posted by: mvallevand - 2021-10-16, 03:31 PM - Forum: Android - Replies (6)

The ExoPlayer library used by uidroid should support most ts streams from NextPVR for live TV and recordings.  As well it support most container formats (mkv, mp4, ts, mpg, etc) for video and audio, however there is no doubt that some formats will fail.  The most likely scenario is that skipping could fail on recordings since the support in ExoPlayer for mpeg-ts is limited but sub and I attempt to work around them.  I have not had problems with comskip but the more you manually skip the more like you will encounter problems.  If that turns out to really problematic consider post  processing you files to mp4.

For files that will not play at all, that you think should play turn on EventLogging in the setting and reproduce the problem and post the zipped logcat files in a separate post.  Use adbLink to get the this file.  Alternatively if there is a specific problem file that you would like me to investigate if possible create a small 100MB sample and provide an external link (ie Google Drive, One Drive ).  Because of the varitey of formats available I do expect some file will need to be looked at.

At the current time subtitles (DVB and ATSC CC style) have only been tested on live TV and recordings.  Activating subtitles on mkv and other files may or may not work.  External file (srt ass etc) and AC-4 captioning will also not work currently.

Also note that in the initial release timeshifted live TV is not available.  I hope to add that functionality in a future release.

  Android Hardware
Posted by: mvallevand - 2021-10-16, 03:31 PM - Forum: Android - Replies (18)

Testing of uidroid has been on several different devices and platforms.  It should work on Android, Android TV, Google TV and Amazon devices.   For those of you that don't need the clutter of the launcher on these platforms I suggest looking into the Wolf launcher.

Video decoding on your device is based on the device capabilities. Audio support uses your devices hardware and in addition it use ffmpeg for mp3, ac3, eac3, flac, vorbis, opus, dca/dts  truehd and ac4 if your device doesn't support it.

Here is what I tested and my opinions which are not totally unbiased.  I tested on 4K but I don't have any HDR monitors.  5:1 audio seemed to work on all devices when part of the stream.

1.  TiVo4K

My recommended client so far has been the TiVo4K because it has a remote key with the number pad and it is often on sale for $30 online or at box stores.  I feel you have to "deTiVo" it for best performance.  Having a second USB port makes it easy to add an RF based remote with keyboard  One major con for this device is it is wifi only and it is hard to find network adapters.  It is also only at Android 9 and the future support is unknown.

2. Google Chromecast

The Chromecast is  a good value but the remote is basic DPAD and return.  It isn't hard to connect a USB C hub with wired networking and extra USB ports RF remote dongles, but doubles the cost.

3. Amazon Fire TV Max.

The latest Amazon device is pretty fast and the remote is a little better then the Chromecast but it only can take USB A hubs.  It is also relatively expensive, but no doubt Amazon will have sales.  It is also the only Android device I have tested that play AV1 via uidroid.

4. Phones and tablets

I have tested uidroid on several phones and tablets but  the touch and gesture support is too limited and you'd need to connect a Bluetooth or USB remote to make it really useful.

5. Khadas VIM3L Android

Everything worked but the video performance is lacking, use CoreElec instead.

Please feel free to provide your feedback on other devices.  Also post questions on hardware here.

  Remotes for uidroid
Posted by: mvallevand - 2021-10-16, 03:30 PM - Forum: Android - Replies (32)

Using the remote with any UI client for NextPVR can be the most important part of the user experience. While uidroid will work with just a DPAD and return key,I feel the more keys the better, since it reduces the reliance on long presses and can give more functionality. As an example music playback is not possible without the "Play" key. Be careful, if you touch the Home or dedicated keys like Netflix these will kick you out of NextPVR.

Here is the basic key board reference https://github.com/emveepee/Testing/wiki...dReference Basically the way this reference works is look at the standard remote reference column and if your remote has that key use it. If not check check the Roku or Android columns for additional capabilities

It is also important is to make this change in config.xml to get document skipping behaviour on DPAD Left and Right

<LeftRightBehaviour>Long Skip</LeftRightBehaviour>

The default number of seconds skipped (60/30) can also be configured in config.xml

New users to NextPVR based UI clients may not know the skipping mechanism but sub's has a great implementation where you can enter the number key for the the number of minutes to skip and the arrow key.

If you want more keys and can add USB RF dongle there are many in the $20 range on Amazon that work with no configuration or you can add a Bluetooth remote like the Sofabaton for full control (but you would need to configure it too.

Also to access the settings menu in Android it is long DPAD centre when video is not playing.

If you need help configuring a remote post here however if you need help with specific IR based remote make a separate post with you logcat logs hitting the keys that don't work.

  Announcing uidroid for Android
Posted by: mvallevand - 2021-10-16, 03:28 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (2)

I am once again happy to announce a new client for NextPVR this time on Android. The client is called uidroid. Unlike sub's Android client the client has the same look and feel as NextPVR.exe for Windows. Similar functionality is available on Android using Kodi with knewc but this custom solution requires less memory and is easier to configure. If you prefer a modern Android GUI, then you should probably be using sub's app.

This client is standalone and uses the ExoPlayer player on Android for direct non-transcoded playback. ExoPlayer is powerful client and it keeps getting better.

If addition to NextPVR Live TV and Recordings you will be able to access your Video, Music and Picture Libraries including playback of mkv, mp4, webm, mp3 and FLAC files. The new AC-4 format audio is also support for ATSC 3.0.

To get started the Android apk is available at https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.ph...#pid562489 and it will need to be sideloaded. Currently note this is a debug build and it includes extra logging.

For usage notes please check the information posts in the new support forum for this app https://forums.nextpvr.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=67 if you have any questions not answered by those posts please open a new thread unless it is specifically related to the thread.

This client is another project I created to support sub. As a result if you haven't made a donation of some kind in support of NextPVR the app will stop working after 7 days. If you need more time without donating you will need to completely uninstall the app and install it again. Contact sub via PM to get the required key information.

Once again thanks to VCR58 and BrettB,for testing and comments and of course to sub for making NextPVR and the UI Client interface possible.

  Can't find Prime NZ
Posted by: arrbee99 - 2021-10-15, 10:07 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (13)

I had a problem where I couldn't get a satellite signal from my TBS6902 tuner. Seems there was a driver problem which seems to be fixed. I then deleted the tuners from NextPVR and rescanned them. Now I can't seem to find Prime and Prime+1 NZ anywhere using Optus D1 or Optus D1 FTA. It does pick up 12519 for TVNZ Duke +1 and a few others, but not Prime. Is it just me ? anyone else ?

Thanks

  Desktop Gadget v1.2 Needs Fixing!
Posted by: Bobbybear - 2021-10-15, 12:20 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (6)

After using NPVR v4 (Legacy) for a number of years I have just found time to update to v5 (web based) and am quite pleased.
It may take me a few more days to get used to the change.
The two problems I have is with the Desktop Gadget, I like to keep and eye on the recording schedule and recording status at a glance.
I installed v1.2 and if I want to show the channel logo's on the gadget when I paste the .html txt from the Wiki into the box on the Settings Schedule page it does not remember this text, only the first line.
The the gadget will not work and the only way to recover it is to uninstall it and then re-install and set it up again.
The second problem is if I click on the NPVR logo at the top of the gadget the resulting web page shows an Error!
It appears that whether you use your machines ip. address or localhost in the 'server' setting box on the setting 'General' tab the address returned is missing the '/index.html' at the end of the string
i.e. it returns
http://localhost:8866/
not
http://localhost:8866/index.html

It would be really nice if someone could fix this gadget please?
