First of all I apologize for the long post but want to give as much information as possible.
I was running NextPVR on a windows10 laptop for quite a while and did not have any problem recording to the samba share.
I am quite new to the linux world, just starting to change my user pc's to linux
But now I am really having trouble setting file permissions to allow recording to my linux samba share. I know its a permission error from the log entries

The files do get created but nextpvr is unable to write to them.
I have researched for quite a few days now and have not found a solution for this. I am a rather new linux user and just starting to switch everything over from windows.
I am using ubuntu 20,04 server for my network shares using samba, and debian 11 on the laptop I am using to run NextPVR.

On the laptop pc I installed NextPVR as user test.
I have created a directory in the /home/test folder - remote-record and applied the shell script nextpvr-recording.sh to it.
I mount the samba share to that folder.
The permissions I see on the samba server do not seem to be created as 775, they show 754. I have read about ACL in the samba server but I have not been able to implement them.
I am sure someone here is recording to a linux samba share from a linux pc and could possibly point me in the right direction.

I updated from V4 to V5 last year and having futzed with Settings since that time, but I'm now at my wits end with the NPVR Web App!
My ongoing issue (as mentioned in one or two threads in the V4 section of this forum ) is that my IPTV provider occasionally moves channels around, and although I can watch said channels in NPVR, there's no guide data. As there was no 'refresh' function in V4 (as you would see in other IPTV apps on, say, Android or IPTV hardware, where each time guide data is grabbed, channel assignments are also updated) I had to occasionally wipe the provider's info, reload it, and then manually delete the thousands of channels and tens of groups I don't need.
The issue I'm currently having with the UI in V5's Web App is that I can't select multiple channels to delete! I mistakenly presumed that the functionality of groups management had been updated so that deleting groups in the 'Channels' section of 'Settings' would delete the related channels as well.
Needless to say, all 5,400-plus are still there.
No problem, I thought, I'll just delete batches of them as I did in V4: click, scroll, shift-click to select all in between the two clicks. Nope... no joy. It seems I can only select one channel at a time for deletion!
Is there some other trick to deleting a bunch of channels, or deleting a group while also deleting all of its channels?
Second matter: as with most IPTV providers these days, login is only available via XC, with m3u completely deprecated. So... I was happy to see that NPVR now has "Added the ability update XC channels"... but I can't find it in Settings!
So, I dropped my cable provider and went with a combination of over-the-air and streaming live TV. I removed my HDHomeRun Prime from service and installed a HDHomeRun Connect Due for the over the air stations. When I look at NPVR, I still see the old HDHR Prime device. How do I get rid of it?
I am trying to change the web login password from the default. I have tried several times, and have been unsuccessful. I am entering admin/password as the username/current password, but that does not work. That is the current username/password combination, as that is how I am logging in to begin with.
I've used NextPVR for the last year with no problems.
I'm now trying to install it on a better PC.
When I click the spanner icon in "channels" I get the "edit channel details" screen ok.
But when I've selected source of XMLTV I'm unable to enter anything into the mapping field.
It's driving me mad!
I don't think it's the XML file, as I've tried it with a copy of my ok one.
Last week I recorded a 2 hour program, Good Morning America. When I played it back, it was a nightmare time shifting. When I tried to jump ahead by 90 minutes, it would freeze and then go back to the beginning. I tried other V5 recordings and I encountered similar problems with time shifting including slowness.
Out of curiosity, I played several V4 recordings, including movies, and had very few problems time shifting.
Has there been a change to the recording format for V5?
My V5 backend is running on a Windows 10 computer. The client for all tests was a Raspberry Pi 4 running Kodi Matrix 19.1.0 (LibreELEC 9.97.1)
