Searched forum and didn't see any solutions to my symptoms. Basically, the MVP works like a champ watching recorded programs. I don't use it to watch live tv, but I was trying to debug a problem for my father related to live tv (different system, not listed in my sig).
So, I tried to select Live TV, and the screen pauses for several seconds and then the MVP reboots. There's an error shown in the logs, but I can't determine anything from it. The server is PVR-2, running 1.0.16 with all patches and no embellishments.
I am using GBPVR 1.0.16 with all the patches from the survival guide applied. My computer is an Athlon64 X-2 running Vista Ultimate. My Digital/HD device is an HD-HomeRun.
I can record all digital channels and HD channels just fine, but when I go to watch a digital recording, I get no sound. I get no audio or video when watching an HD recording in PVRX2. Same results watching live TV on digital and HD channels.
I tried adding the video and audio decoders to their respective lists of usable decoders in the config.xml and specifying them in the Config app. After that, I get video in both HD and Digital recordings, but still no audio, and no audio on Digital channels and nothing on HD channels.
Attached are my logs after playing a digital recording, an HD recording, then watching Live TV on a digital channel and an HD channel.
I have just rebuilt a box running GBPVR v1.0.16 (same system as I had before but previously running build v99.12). I had 4 MVP's running with the previous set up, and all worked brilliantly. For this post let us pretend it is just the one MVP I'm running as they are now all acting the same :-)
After the new install I could not get the MVP to contact the server/dongle.bin, having had problems like this before I installed the latest Hauppauge software on the GBPVR Server and it was easy to find the MVP.
I then stop the Hauppauge MVP service (and I have been timing it over the last 3 days) it takes between 5-10 minutes for the MVP to find the GBPVR dongle on the server, after that all seems fine again. Before the MVP's would boot in less than 15 seconds?????!!!!!++++&*****
Needless to say this is not friendly for my wife who doesn't want to see an MVP messaging 'Contacting Servers' for 5 minutes and I'm not sure what's going on either!
Maybe someone can give me some more suggestions of things to try.
Here is my problem: I recently purchased a new computer with Vista installed. I set up GBpvr and installed the new version of videoredo. I have been using this same batch script for at least a year and a half. Here is the condensed version I am trying to run:
REM If you use Showanalyzer, unREM the next line
REM "C:\Program Files\Dragon Global\ShowAnalyzer\ShowAnalyzer.exe" %1
REM If you use comskip, unREM the next line
"C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\comskip.exe" %1
cscript //nologo "C:\Program Files\VideoReDoTVSuite\vp.vbs" "%~dpn1.VPrj" "%~dpn1_cleaned.mpg" /t1 /q
REM "C:\Users\Doug\Documents\Programs and Batch Files\gb_bats\postpostprocessing.bat" %1
If I drag and drop a completed .mpg file onto this batch file in the GBpvr directory it runs fine. If I run it from the command line by substituting the actual paths for the variables it runs fine.
It will not run as a postprocessing.bat when a recording finishes. Comskip runs and produces the vprj file but the videoredo script never produces any output.
I have tried to change permissions on the various files involved but don't really know what I'm doing there. Maybe I should just revert to XP?
First of all let me introduce myself. I'm John, and I'm an electrical contractor looking for options for both my own house and future clients of mine.
I'm currently very interested in the field of TV and media distribution, and I've been testing out a couple of Linux based options (LinuxMCE, and MythTV). Whilst they both do exactly what I'm after, both have proven to be full of bugs, and since I take pride in my work, I wouldn't be happy supplying a system that I knew to be somewhat of a trouble maker.
So my question is this, what is gbpvr capable of?
Using Linux I can have a hefty backend machine, which has all of the capture devices and storage, and in each room a basic machine acting as a portal to the data on the backend.
So for instance using MythV I can rip a DVD to the backends hard drive in perfect quality, complete with menus, dolby 5.1, and DTS where available, then watch it in any room with a front end machine.
It also goes without saying that I can also watch an actual DVD in any room with a frontend machine.
I can also watch DVB-t and DVB-s in any room with a frontend machine, without having to have a capture card in that machine. The data is simply retrieved from the backend machine.
I can also pause, rewind, and record TV in any room.
And depending on the performance of the backend machine, it can supply several frontends with data at once.
I have browsed the features page of the main website, but it doesn't really go into the physical layout possibilities, so I've turned to you guys for some info.
A friend of mine who is not very computer savvy has asked me if I would be interested in digitizing his collection of aprox 3000 CD's.
He wants everything setup to import cleanly into ITunes. He also wants the cover art to be available. Since most of the CD's are obscure jazz and classical albums I'm thinking I'm going to have to scan the covers rather than try to download the art.
I have already told him the project will take me at least three months to get done. I have also told him that he will have a lot of work to do himself once he gets the data to classify all the music.
If I was interested in the music I may have done it for free just so I could make my own copies of everything.
I'm not trying to make a big profit from the guy. I just want to cover myself in case the project somehow turns into a giant p.i.t.a. What would you charge?
I've moved to a Tivo S3 for my TV recording needs because I don't have the time to work on PVR anymore, QAM recording in my area is no longer working and I've beens spoiled by HD, and the family "just wants something that works".

I'm at a loss.. I've read all the threats on aspect ratio, but I don't seem to get this one resolved:
The GBPVR menu looks fine on my 19:6 TV (using the MVP) but as soon as I put up a 16:9 recording, the screen becomes smaller (black bars on the top & bottom on the screens). This seems different from what other people experience, if I understand the messages right.
It seems that the black bars are added when recording, so I've tried to crop them using VLC.
This does make for a pretty usable mpeg file, but even here, with the bars cropped; I still get the very small screen.
I've tried the various 16:9 settings in the config.xml file (for the MVP) as well as the setting in the config panel. As well as in the MVP boot dongle (using mvpmc now ;-) None of them seem to change much on my TV screen. The GBPVR menu always nicely fills the screen, but the videos don't.
I guess the source of my problem is that I don't really seem to understand what all the different 16:9 settings exactly do at all the different levels. I'd love some pointers on how to fix this...! All I want is to have the video screensize the same as the GBPVR menus, so that I don't have to change my TV settings all the time.
