Hi all,

I have just rebuilt a box running GBPVR v1.0.16 (same system as I had before but previously running build v99.12). I had 4 MVP's running with the previous set up, and all worked brilliantly. For this post let us pretend it is just the one MVP I'm running as they are now all acting the same :-)

After the new install I could not get the MVP to contact the server/dongle.bin, having had problems like this before I installed the latest Hauppauge software on the GBPVR Server and it was easy to find the MVP.

I then stop the Hauppauge MVP service (and I have been timing it over the last 3 days) it takes between 5-10 minutes for the MVP to find the GBPVR dongle on the server, after that all seems fine again. Before the MVP's would boot in less than 15 seconds?????!!!!!++++&*****

Needless to say this is not friendly for my wife who doesn't want to see an MVP messaging 'Contacting Servers' for 5 minutes and I'm not sure what's going on either!

Any ideas?

Alot of users have found they need to explicitly tell their firewall software to allow PVRX2.exe to have access to the network otherwise they get similar sorts of symptoms. I'm sure this will be the cause for you also.

Hi Sub,

firstly many thanks once again for such brilliant software.

2nd you are of course quite right. One thing I forgot to turn off with the rebuild was automatic XP firewall, I feel somewhat humbled that I missed such an obvious thing. Turned firewall off and voila MVP boots into PVRx2 less than 5 seconds. I hope that my stupidity helps others out there on the threads.

Cheers Smile

Cool

The new PVRX2 MVP is also much faster at detecting the MVP connection disappearing, so it should much faster at restarting between sessions.

Sounds like you got bit by the same bug that got me! I did a clean install of XP and one of the first things that I did was to turn OFF the Windows Firewall. But then Windows Update installed well over 100 Critical Updates and it seems that one of them turned the firewall back on for me. How &*())#$(*& convenient!

I was having the same symptoms that you saw when trying to use my MVP's. I figured it was the firewall, but the oh-so-helpful "Security Center" told me that my firewall was McAfee, which indeed I do use. All of the GBPVR exe's are allowed via McAfee, so it seemed like all was OK. Then I happened to open the link for Windows Firewall and saw that it was on again.

I don't run any firewalls and my MVP is slow to connect. Not 5 min, but not 5 sec either. Probably a min or two. I tried the mvpmc dongle and couldn't get it to work at all.

Oh, and it will still reset itself when setting up the first recurring recording also.

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

If you still can't create logs could you upload your config.xml.

Sub, I think the only person who ever beat you was HtV last week.
