Hello all. I've been using GBPVR for a year or so now. It is simply amazing. I recently decided I wanted to start using the enhanced web admin. Since enabling it the GBPVR tray icon has been locking up which makes the tray icon unusable and the EWA service unusable, but the recording service keeps on working.
I thought I might take the burden away from GBPVR by running an apache server since I use one for website testing anyway. I am trying to follow the guide in the wiki here, but I'm having a little problem getting it to work. The link pointing to the extra module is no longer correct, but I've figured (stumbled) my way through much of the instructions.
My currennt sticking point is the instruction to use:
Code:
<Directory “C:web/gbweb/bin”>
I'm scratching my head on this line because it isn't correctly formatted to point to a directory on the harddrive, and I can't figure out what directory it should be pointing to since there isn't a gbweb directory.
Anyone with a little experience using an apache server to do this and can hint me a little in the right direction?
I'm running WAMP on a Windows 2000 pro box with an AMD 800mghz processor with 640 ram. (Yes it is an old box, but runs GBPVR without much problem. I hope to be updating it soon.)
I'm UK-based and considering GB-PVR instead of a dedicated DVB-S PVR such as a DreamBox.
One issue is noise; I'd be reluctant to have anything noisier than a whisper.
Are there any combinations of Laptop / External DVB-S HD compatible tuner that are recommended/known to work well with GB-PVR?
I'd want to support:
1) SD/HD
2) Timeshifting
3) Support for a decent EPG, and I don't mind paying a modest annual/monthly fee. At the moment I'm really only interested in channels available via Freesat at 28.2E - not *that* much interest in softcams either to be honest - watch too much as it is :-)
4) HDMI output to an HD Ready LCD TV/large TFT monitor.
Failing that, any *very quiet* "ready-to-go" solutions/specs available? I did look, but I couldn't find a readily available "shopping list". Clearly the authors setup would be of interest in terms of supported / recommended hardware etc.
Yesterday I opened PVRX2 to choose shows to watch for the week. Windows (I assume) displayed a box saying something like "Please wait while Windows configures GBPVR", then PVRX2 opened as usual. Unfortunately, the EPG guide was showing channels from my old setup, and when I went into Recordings to look at my recurring recordings, I noticed it was showing a bunch of shows I had removed a few weeks earlier.
So, I exit PVRX2 and opened the config app. That's when I discovered my capture sources had all been reset to the way I had them a few weeks ago. I had to make a mad dash to reconfigure all my sources before the evenings shows started recording.
I have "system restore" turned OFF in Windows. I'm using GBPVR 1.0.16, but I used to experience similar problems with prior versions that would erase the changes I made to the skin files.
Why is this happening, and how can I stop it? Setting up the capture sources and mapping the digital channels is a slow and laborious process. Are there specific files these settings are saved in that I can back up and restore if the problem occurs again?
On a related note, it would be nice if the "Update EPG" selection when right clicking the tray icon would show some kind of display to let you know it's busy working on something. I use I-xmltv and currently have to open task manager to watch and see when xmltv.exe and pvrx2.exe finally shut down. It doesn't even need a progress display, just a box showing it's working would be sufficient.
I've now got a completely new setup and now need to import my recordings database. How do I export my recordings? Is it done as usual despite the fact that my directories are all different?
Last time I did this it was with the same setup - drive letters, directories etc - and it worked perfectly.
I think it should be the following:
1. setup gbpvr 1.0.16
2. config with new directory names
3. copy all the files over to the proper directories
4. enter config and import recordings
Thoughts please...hopefully I'll be up and running by the end of the week.
here's a neat little util that lets you map network shares for the local service account..so you can keep the Local System Account + Interact with Desktop and still get to your network shares..
UseShare http://babgvant.com/files/folders/misc/entry6007.aspx
you have to go into the "Configure Shares For Network Service" service and change the logon to 'local system' account [click browse/advanced/find] and blank password for it to work with gbpvr service's logon...
I have added a BitTorrent client to Version 3 of the Ten Foot products.
Bit Torrent is a widely-used protocol for downloading large files (and collections of files) from the Internet. For example, you can get films, TV programs and music that are published as BitTorrents.
The client allows people interested in the same file to work together to get much faster download rates than a single server could reasonably provide. It integrates with the Ten Foot Browser (and other browsers) so clicking a link to a torrent starts the download automatically. You control how and when torrents are queued and run.
Like the other Ten Foot Products:
- Ten Foot Browser
- Ten Foot Launcher
- Ten Foot Mail Reader
- Ten Foot File Manager
- Ten Foot Program Manager...
... the BitTorrent client makes the best use of low resolution television displays by using simple screens with high resolution colours. The screens automatically resize to fit your display. You can control the client using just your remote.
The Launcher allows the Ten Foot Products to work with all PC-based media centre software by defining hot buttons. Double-pressing a hot button brings up the Launcher so you can run any of the Products, or any other program you add to the Launcher.
If you don't have Windows MCE installed, you can ask the Launcher to run GBPVR whenever you press the Big Green Button on your remote. Alternatively, you can assign GBPVR to any other remote button.
You can see some ways to integrate GBPVR and the Ten Foot Products here.
It comes with online help, supporting documentation and support pages to help you make the most of BitTorrent.
We have made several other improvements to the Ten Foot Products in this new version that you can read about here.
The products are free and do not contain any adware or malware
You can out more, download the Products and get the documentation from here.
I thought I'd try Vista on my PVR, so as a had a couple of spare hard disks I did a fresh install. Everything's ok except I can't get the tv-out to work with my nVidia card. Am I doing something wrong or is this a known issue?
The option to select dual monitors just isn't there. If I force detection of other monitors it'll let me select dual monitors, one of which being the TV-out, then straigt away un-selects it again Obviously this makes it impossible for me to use gbpvr.
I really want to use Vista as suspend/hibernate works well, whereas with XP I have nothing but grief with it. Any ideas anyone?
I use GBPVR 1.0.16 with a hauppauge Nova-t-500 card using the BDA plugin.
It works brilliantly. Very impressed.
The TV shows I record though are HUGE !
A 1 hour program is around 1.5 Gig and in "Microsoft Recorded TV Show" format ?
I was interested in using the Conversion Processing that is built into GBPVR to convert the files to XVID, but despite stetting all 3 "Auto-Convert" sections to XVID, nothing seems to happen.
Little bit new to all this, so any help would be appreciated.
