I've currently got an Athlon 2500+ PC that I'm strongly considering using as a PVR by buying a bigger hard disk and a dual digital tuner card (The Pinnacle PCTV Dual DVB-T Pro PCI Tv Tuner). However, I still want to be able to use my PC as a PC which will include some web browsing and games.
What I'm interested to know is how much system resource is used when recording TV programs to the hard disk. Is it going to be impossible to do this when playing games at the same time or will the TV card do most of the work for me?
Does anyone have any experience of doing something like this, is it a lost cause?
I'm using Purevideo as the playback decoder in my config and I can see its tray icon showing up when I watch Live TV.
However when I playback a recording the tray icon doesn't show up and the quality is quite bad. This leads me to believe that GBPVR isn't using that decoder. Can someone tell me how do I make sure it is?
BTW The Nvidia Decoder icon shows up playing back the same recording in Media Player.
I connected my European (scart) mediaMVP to my new Panasonic TH37PV7F television. On my old CRT it gives a perfect scart-RGB picture. On the new television the image is sharp but green. Black is green, the blue boot screen is greenish as well.
Seems to be something with a wrong signal on one of the scart pins I presume, but I can't figure out what. The tv detects an RGB signal, the cable is fully wired, I tested 2 cables and 2 MVP's. all the same.
Has anyone a clue if I can switch the MVP to another output signal format or something? With Hauppauge software you can enable svideo on the scart pins, but I would like to get the RGB to work because that gives a brilliant picture.
I can no longer connect GBPVR with my media MVP. I need some ideas.
1. If I use the MediaMVP software everything works. Can watch shows / prerecorded movies etc no problem.
2. I uninstall MediaMVP and installed GBPVR 1.08. MVP displays contacting servers page. Waiting 10 minutes. Config file has autostart set to 2. Tried (1) also. Just figured maybe 2 would help (2 threads I assume).
Okay, I've searched everywhere with no answer. This is the problem. I'm running 1.016 on my server (XP Home) with ports 7969 and 7968 opened. The client is a Vista laptop with the same GBPVR version connected wirelessly.
This setup worked before (though not well, but it worked). I rebuilt the server, and now the client just crashes in the Guide section, the folder locations never appear even though I've changed them (it goes to C. I have tried it with both firewalls shut off (Windows firewall) to no avail. No changes have been made to the router.
I can browse the gbpvr folder from the laptop and move and change files so the sharing seems to work. But when I make changes in the config of the client, nothing seems to change, I pick the locations by browsing (so no typos).
I configured an old P4 machine as a STREAMING network client with partial success, but still have some problems:
1. Playback using (GB-PVR, not PVRX2) of previously recorded shows is OK only when there is no recording activity. When the server is recording something, playback at the network client fails (black screen, stuck at 100% until I kill it)
2. Live TV doesn't work (same symtom, black screen & 100%CPU)
3. PVRX2 can't even play at all, even when there is no recording activity at server (same symtom).
If I map the video library to the network share and play the files directly then it always work, both with GB-PVR and PVRX2. I'm using version v1.0.16.
Does anyone run into these same issues & found solutions?
As a developer, I find myself constantly going into maintenance mode to turn off the recording service (so I can compile and move a shared DLL), then going back and restarting the service (usually within seconds/minutes).
It would be nice to have an option to go into maintenance mode for xx sec/mins (configurable time span), and have Slimm auto-restart the service when the time expires.
About once a night while watching through the MVP, I'll exit out to the menu, go back into the guide and try and watch a show. I get a message "no tuners available" with the only option being "Don't watch TV" Both tuners should be idle and have not been recording for about half an hour. This happens repeatedly. Each time I have tried powering off and powering on the MVP (not a hard reset just putting it to sleep; I realize now this really won't help) and everything looks fine but when I go back in and tell it to watch a show, the MVP hangs. The server is showing full CPU load on PVRX2.exe (there are two PVRX2.exe's showing in task manager when this happens). I have to kill the tasks and restart them. I believe I was able to resolve it one night by restarting the recording service, tonight I could not right click on the Tray icon to restart and I had to kill it instead through task manager. I think that each time this has happened, an instance of PVRX2 is running on the server (nothing playing or watching, the program is just open). I have tried default MVP skins, changing Decoders to NVIDIA and Intervideo. Only special plugins I am running are weather and Comskip (parallel processing). Logs attached, I am going to disable weather but I don't think it has anything to do with that. I am using the MVPMC dongle.
Any help would be great. The error happened around 21:20 I'm not good at reading logs, only see a failure to stop recording etc.
And...... I just restarted my computer and my guide is empty, this is a first.
I was wondering how many of us have switched over to the new PVRX2.exe and how many of us have stayed with GBPVR.exe. Those of you who are on previous versions can vote as well since you didn't upgrade for a reason.
For me, switching to PVRX2 was a no-brainer. I'm only using the app as a front end for my music, MP4 videos, and my pictures so I don't have to worry too much about recording TV or getting channel listings.
I have a wired network, and a wireless router, feeding a PC upstairs. I have a wired MVP. I want to hook another wireless router I have that also has network ports, to the MVP, so that it can work wirelessly.
Has anybody done this? And can I use a regular router? Or do I need an access point?
I've done wired to wired router, but not wireless to wireless.
