What is the best way to remove commercials from HDTV Files?
Posted by: crashbowman - 2007-09-18, 03:30 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

I am just wondering what the best way to remove commercials from HDTV files are?

My files are DVR-MS files and the only BDA multiplexers that seem to work on my system are the DVR-MS and the Cyberlink. Comskip seems to find the commercials correctly at times and ot at others, so far I have not tried to tune it but the main problem seems to be that comclean does not work on my HD content.

Do I need to have GBPVR automatically convert them to MPEG 2 before comclean removes the commercial and if so where does this fit in the post processing?

Would I need to just select convert to MPEG 2 in the GBPVR Config or would it need to be put in Post Processing.bat?

If I convert to MPEG 2 will I lose any quality?

I am also looking at VideoRedo, but that cost $50 and is more time consuming. I am also trying out a program called DVRMSToolbox, but I am having trouble getting it installed, because of a weird .Net Framework error.

Thanks for any help.

John

How to break (then fix) your Pending recordings.
Posted by: bgowland - 2007-09-18, 03:20 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

This is kind of a FYI to anyone who comes across this and also a 'bug/feature' report. If it's not appropriate for the support forum, feel free to move it sub.

On Sunday night, I somehow managed to set my PC date to October (I think I touched the scroll-wheel on my mouse after opening the date/time app from the systray). Later that evening I started the gbpvr app. to see what had recorded that day and 'What's New' showed a message saying there was nothing from the past seven days. I checked Pending and it said there was nothing pending. At that point I realised the month was wrong - OK, that explained things - I set the month back to September.

The problem was that it didn't occur to me that all the pending recordings for the next two weeks had been marked in the DB as 'Failed'. Logical, I suppose, as the rec. service had (for a couple of hours) thought it was 4 weeks in the future.

I left things as they were expecting the 7am scheduled EPG update to recreate the pending recordings from my Reoccurring list but it didn't (due to the fact that what should have been created as pending were marked as failed in the DB and thus ignored).

When I worked out what was going on, I went through all of my recordings folders in the 'Ready' section, deleted all the failed recordings, emptied the EPG then did an UpdateEPG from the System plugin. Everything back to normal. Two of my wife's programmes not recorded though.

So that's the FYI bit.

sub - would it be possible to add some logic to analyse the date/time stamp of apparently failed recordings and identify the fact that they can't possibly have failed because, in this scenario, they weren't due to record for another week (for example)?

If the EPG process thinks it's the 18th Sept., the EPG source says there's a programme to schedule on the 19th (for example) but the DB thinks that programme has already been attempted and failed, the logic should be the EPG and current date override the 'Failed' marker.

Cheers,
Brian

Can't playback a show while recording
Posted by: pointlisse - 2007-09-18, 02:26 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Hi,

Using latest version with all the survival updates on a HVR-1600.

When I have something currently recording to the analog tuner, I'm unable to playback the video in progress. Selecting 'Live TV' bounces me back to the main menu and from the Recordings > Pending screen, it just goes to black w/ no sound.

No problem playing live TV from the analog tuner (while not recording) or from the QAM tuner (while analog is recording), and no problem with playback after the recording is finished.

Any ideas?

  Locking up - not responding
Posted by: heath11 - 2007-09-18, 01:37 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I am trying to get a "basic" install working before adding any plugins, etc, and am having some trouble.

I have signed up for SchedulesDirect and have updated EPG without (known) error.

When going to view live tv nothing happens, the menu remains and it never goes to the TV.

When I go to TV Guide there is nothing in the guide and the systems hangs (Not Responding).

Attached are the logs. Your help in troubleshooting is appreciated.

HVR-1600 QAM, GBPVR hangs during recording
Posted by: Anthony - 2007-09-18, 01:23 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (17)

I've been trying to record digital stations from a QAM cable source with my HVR-1600 tuner cards (I have two).

Unfortunately, I haven't had much success. A few shows complete successfully, but most of the time GBPVR freezes during recording. No errors or anything, it just acts like it's still recording the show (in the status display and the tray icon), but the show actually stopped recording partway into the show.

I've tried changing the <BDAUsePsiParser>false</BDAUsePsiParser> to false, but it still hangs during recording.

Didn't know which logs to send, so I've attached them all. Smile

What now? Fall TV season is starting soon, so I'd like to get this working! Smile

Thanks,

Anthony

  MVP restarting while watching video
Posted by: psycik - 2007-09-18, 01:04 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (30)

Been experiencing a fairly annoying problem since I put down a heap of windows update fixes - at the point where I'm going to drop back to an image from before I put them down.

While watching a video (live tv or recording) the mvp will just reset. Thought it may have been related to comskip commercials, but after deleting the .txt file for the commercial marks and not touching the remote it still did it.

Seems to be network related

Here's the error. Have been on 1.0.0.16 with the default dongle. Tried changing to .54 last night and that had no effect. Might try the mvpmc one as well - if none work then I need to kill the updates and see if it stablises.

Any ideas?
