The past few days I've been having a bit of a problem with recordings coming out "bad" which I've been unable to explain. The setup has worked fine for ages, and I haven't yet upgraded to the latest version, but nothing at all in the entire setup has changed.
However, I suddenly seem to be losing the ability to record, and I'm not sure if something odd has happened to GB-PVR somewhere, a GB-PVR requirement or component, or whether my Hauppauge USB 2 PVR is dieing.
When I try to record, I seem to have a 50% chance of it working. Either it records as per normal and it all works out fine, or I get a recording that seems to have poor compressed video (very blocky) and has a corrupted soundtrack.
To try to demonstrate the output, I uploaded an example here. (Short due to keeping a low filesize, but it should demonstrate the problem - it never gets better)
I'm not sure what to do or even where to start diangosing the problem. The GBPVRRecordingService log seems fine and usual
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on even where to start looking for the problem? They would be greatly appreciated
The problem doesn't seem to occur when using WinTV2000 to test so far, but then again, it doesn't always happen with GB-PVR. There's no problem with the input
I have recently changed my setup to have the MVP and server in the same room, linked by a crossover cable. I had originally intended to have the TV directly connected to the PC, but the picture quality was very poor (S-video cable from ATI 9100IGP, or ATI 7000 AGP). Anyhow, I now have the MVP working and the computer is setup to go into standby occasionally, all working well, except that when the computer wakes up, and is working fine, the MVP shows the little icon on the top left of the screen indicating no network connection. The only remedy is to disconnect the power from the MVP and restart it. I cannot even turn it off with the remote. I assume that the MVP is looking for a server while the PC is in standby, but why does it not detect it when it resumes?
Well I heard the audio for a microsecond and then it goes away. Also, my image quality has gone to hell. In what ways has the new install changed the fine tuning I did with my old version. Also, what happened to my audio?
Another problem, right after installation my computer keeps thinking something is being plugged in and then unplugged.
The last time it happened was at 13:00 EDT today (1 minute pre-delay, so actually 12:59). I rebooted at 13:39, hoping that would fix it, but just got a couple more 6 KB files. The show was "Search for the Sea Serpent", and the logs are attached. I have earlier ones too from today when it did work (and also when it didn't) if that would help.
I've noticed for 1.00.8 and 1.00.16 that some changes I make to the plugins do not save. For instance, I just installed GameZone, and I moved it up on the list so it wasn't on the bottom. I went in and out of config a few times and it stayed. Today I went in, and it was back on the bottom.
Also, WebStream (UbuStream). I keep checking it to enable it, but every so often (usually each day) it unchecks itself.
I've noticed other things, but nothing I can pin down exactly. Any thoughts or ideas?
I'm using HIP + ATI RW2 to control my HTPC and have been pretty annoyed with the volume control. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to decrease the volume increment size. I know that HIP has a slider, but it seems to only go by 3% steps. With a previous soundcard it went to as low as 1%.
Is it based on the soundcard, the drivers, windows or software?
Well this beats all, I hope someone out there has seen this behaviour and can help...
(0) See system description in SIG below
(1) Config set to do Commercial Detection using "Comskip" "Run during recording".
From PVRX2 I set up to record two shows (Comcast analog), same time slot.
(2) Examining the completed recording files gives the following information.
(a) "first" mpg file includes the first program's content -until the time when the second prog starts- thereafter the content in this "first" file comes from "second" program/channel.
(b) "second" mpg file has no content (viewed either in GB-PVR or VLC) -but is prox twice normal size wrt the time span of recording.
(3) This system was (prior to first occurrence of this puzzlement yesterday) successfully recording and comskipping two progs being recorded at same time, and doing so for quite some time.
(4) Logs attached cuz I hope to heqq they'll help someone help me.
Thanks a lot for any help, suggestions, commiseration,
TomH
THX to "elite" (post#2) for your suggestions - I've done that and am posting another set of logs for a second case to study.
