Best bitrate for MVP + plasma
Posted by: ram4x4nut - 2007-07-13, 04:53 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (10)

Hi all,

Finally got a new tv ... 50" plasma! Now, the problem I have is that while playing over the MVP the video is really bad. I've increased to 9000 Kbs constant bitrate which is better but still not "good". Any suggestions on what bitrate to record at or any other tweaks for watching recordings on a big plasma?

Thanks in advance!

Now wondering if i should wait July 22nd and get Q6600 instead of E6600 with 44$ price difference. Is it

worth waiting then buy quad core for $44 price difference or just stick with core 2 duo?

  pvrx2 not showing all shows
Posted by: goninzo - 2007-07-13, 03:33 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Greetings again,

When using pvrx2, only shows before 7/6/07 show up, which when I installed the new version. None of the previous shows show up. They were showing up a couple days afterwards, but now, my tv list is pretty empty. However, it still shows up the old gbpvr version. There was a new button 'keep' that shows up at it seems random intervals, but I never pushed it.

Is a trick to fixing this? Or do I just have to reimport them? Is it something we can add to the surival guide?

Let me know! Thanks!

  Best Setup for ATI 650, NVidia 8600gt, DCT5100 & Olevia 532H?
Posted by: jimmyjohn - 2007-07-13, 02:51 PM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

I'm making my first jump into HD, with RCN coming to my home Sunday to install the DCT5100 with HD service. My previous setup was a junky old eMachines with just the HVR 1600 getting RF from an old set-top box. Between offering curtains upgrades to my wife and receiving birthday presents from others, I'm looking at a very nice upgrade.

I just received a new heavily-discounted Dell machine yesterday, which I ordered with the NVidida 8600GT-DDR3, though Dell isn't very clear about exactly what specs are on exactly what branded cards they're offering. When it arrived, I could see it has two DVI ports and one "TV" port.

It's also got a Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer -- and I was surprised to find, given what I'd read on other forums, that it actually has optical in/out built in, with no need for an adapter. And to accompany it, a Logitech Z5500 system.
I found an ATI Theater Pro 650 on sale a while ago that I plan on installing into the Dell.

This forum and other forums were really helpful in choosing to purchase this equipment.

Now that I've got it and am preparing to install it Sunday, I'm here with my first forum posting to ask: what's the ideal installation?

How should I hook up the box to the PC, and the PC to the TV?

The 650 only has RF in; will that cause some loss and/or should/could I be doing something else for audio in?

Is it possible to run DVI from the box to the PC and then still use the 650 and PVR software in some way?

I'm assuming I can just run an optical cable to the Z5500 and whatever video setup to the Olevia, and not worry about audio & video being out of synch; am I correct?

I'm a total newbie to the world of HD and higher-end audio, so please excuse any of my ignorance. I've done my best to inform myself as much as possible in these forums the past few months.

PS: Also, best advice for getting the 650 to interact with the box?

Quick guide to Trailers on the MVP
Posted by: mkenyon2 - 2007-07-13, 02:33 PM - Forum: International Cinema Listings, RSS Reader, WebCams, Calendar, Files and Screen Saver - Replies (15)

This is a guide for MVP users in the US. This should also work in other countries, but you will need to make some changes for PAL format if you use it. (I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with PAL settings, so I don't know which changes would be necessary.)

Because the MVP doesn't like straight .mov files... it's a good idea to get trailers downloaded by International Cinema listings transecoded (converted) to .mpg, otherwise known as mpeg 4.

This is not a straight forward process, but I will try to sum it up here.

First of all, you are going to need something to Transecode the .mov files over to .mpg. There are several ways, but the one I was shown was to get ffmpeg program. You can find the latest install here: http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/ffmpeg/

The site has various 7-zip files. (7-zip is just another type of file compression) Extract the latest one to a folder like 'C:\FFMpeg\'.

International Cinema listing setup is covered pretty well, so at this point, I'm assuming you have it at least working on your PC where GBPVR is running. You may have also set up a Scheduled Task to update the listings. But to get the conversion process running automatically, we're going to do something a little different.

In your '\Plugins\InternationalCinemaListings\Trailers' folder put 2 .bat files. startConvert and Convert. I'm going to list them, then we'll discuss them.

startConvert.bat
"C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Plugins\InternationalCinemaListingsUpdater.exe"
for %%i in (*.mov) do call Convert.bat %%~ni

for %%j in (*.mpeg) do ren "%%~nj.mpeg" "%%~nj.mpg"

del *.mov

Convert.bat
IF EXIST "%*.mpg" ren "%*.mpg" "%*.mpeg"
IF NOT EXIST "%*.mpeg" D:\FFMpeg\ffmpeg -i "%*.mov" -target svcd "%*.mpeg"

In startConvert.bat I have it calling the Updater, becuase I have my scheduled task calling startConvert. (I hate to have multiple tasks if I don't have to.) So, of course, we start by getting the freshest, ripest data. This will also try to pull trailers down as .mov files.

Then we have a string of batch file code to get all the downloaded .mov files and pass them to our Convert.bat.

Convert.bat simply changes existing .mpgs to .mpeg, becuase while working with FFMpeg we want the .mpeg extension. (More info?)
Then of course we call ffmpeg to do the actual conversion. You can see the path to ffmpeg in the second line. Change that to wherever you have your copy. I have mine on the D: drive.

Note: For the actual conversion, I currently have 'svcd' because it is smaller. However, if you feel you need it, and don't mind the larger files, you could use 'dvd'.

When Convert.bat is done, it drops back to startConvert.bat which renames all the .mpegs to .mpg. Then it removes the .mov. This was key for me, because Cinema lister tries the .mov files first (at least with the version I had) and the MVP wouldn't play them.

Now, if you haven't already, make sure the Scheduled task calls startConvert from the folder you created it in, and test it out. You should now have a bunch of .mpg files that are playable on the MVP.

Please post any comments/corrections to this guide here. I will edit the guide if necessary.

  m3u support
Posted by: Zathras - 2007-07-13, 10:22 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

Sub,

First let me say I really enjoy the new interface. Thank you for you your tireless efforts towards GBPVR. I did a search of the forums and did not see this issue listed so here goes....

I use m3U playlists to customize my audio library to my listening desires.

Previous versions of GBPVR supported the use of m3u files but the new version does not appear to recognize these files.

Again I am very appreciative for the improved version. Will m3u support be included in the future?

Thank you again, Kevin

  MceEpg2XmlTv
Posted by: whurlston - 2007-07-13, 06:42 AM - Forum: Developers - Replies (954)

After the long run with this project, another developer has released a utility (mc2xml) that is much faster and doesn't require Media Center. In light of this, I've decided to shut down this project. Thank you all for the support you gave since I started the project.

For posterity's sake:

Latest builds will be posted to the wiki page: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utility/MceEpg2XmlTv

Setup packages will be Setup-YYYYMMDD.XX.zip where XX is the build number for that day. They will include the command line utilities and the GUI.

Myself or one of the other developers will post an update in this thread when a new build is available.

The following will be moved to the wiki shortly. If you use the GUI, these options will be set automatically.

MceEpgDownloader
Current Version: 1.0.0.6

This will force MCE to download and use the specified headend ID.

Usage:
MceEpgDownloader.exe list-headends will list your available lineups and their headend IDs.
MceEpgDownloader.exe [HeadendId] will download the specified headend. Replace "[HeadendId]" with the headend ID you want.
MceEpgDownloader.exe reload-prefs will download the latest atscchannels.xml and reload *prefs.xml files. Not relevant to GB-PVR. This is for HDHomeRun/MCE users.

MceEpg2XmlTv
Current Version: 1.0.1.1

This will export your current epg into an XMLTv compliant file with the headend id as the filename. It will NOT perform a download, only a conversion. It will NOT affect the operation of Media Center.

Usage:
Create a folder inside the Configs folder with the name of your choice. Place the config.ini, include.txt, exclude.txt and renumber.txt you want to use inside the folder you just created. See the Configs\Samples folder for explanations of the files.

Example:
MceEpg2XmlTv config=MyConfig will look for files in the Configs\MyConfig folder. If this option is not used, "Configs\Default" will be checked.

All config.ini options can be used as command line options. Command line options override config settings.

Additional command line options:
include= -- The include file to use. If the file is not in the default or specified config folder, you can use a path.
exclude= -- The excludefile to use. If the file is not in the default or specified config folder, you can use a path.
renumber= -- The include file to use. If the file is not in the default or specified config folder, you can use a path.
showprogress -- Cannot be used if logging the output to a file.

Edit the Common\ChannelList.txt file to add icon url's for channels. The format is "callsign, url". Use one entry per line.

Ratings icons should be place in the Common\RatingsIcons folder. Icon files should be named the same as the rating with a ".gif" extention. There is nothing that uses the rating icons currently that I am aware of but that may change. Included in the zip file are the VCHIP icons.

A log will be output to the screen. If you want to log to a file, simply append " > logfile.txt" to the end of the command/options (without quotes).
