  Advanced recording rules with weekday
Posted by: johschmi - 2021-02-14, 11:20 AM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (8)

Hi, I am new to NextPVR (just installed it yesterday), so please excuse me if I am asking something that should be relatively clear. I really searched for an answer, though...

First of all, is there any documentation for the advanced recording rules, except this (rather basic) one? https://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php...ancedRules - like available functions and fields?

I am trying to record a show on a channel that is airing every sunday at 7 pm (and is having multiple re-runs on other week days and on other times on sunday). Is there a function to check the week day (e.g. sunday) for a given start_time?

For the time, I adapted the example of the documentation as follows:
title LIKE '%name%' AND time(start_time,'localtime') > time('18:50:00') AND time(start_time,'localtime') < time('19:10:10')

Bonus question: Is there any way to change an existing recording rule?

Many thanks in advance!

How to make closed captions sexy?
Posted by: chemoul - 2021-02-14, 07:47 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (2)

Please be patient with me, long time former Windows Media Center user here.

I'm located in Australia and believe that the captions here are "Teletext" based.

Assuming both Media Center and NextPVR use the same Teletext based input for captions, I can't help but notice that the captions in NextPVR have the typical Teletext pixelated font when they were nicely rendered in Media Center.

Other issues I've found is that the captions don't always seem to update and only every third or fourth sentence is displayed.

Is there any way in NextPVR to improve the font rendering, possibly the display position of the font, and to optimize the refresh rate of the captions?

Thank you for your suggestions!

Which device to use to avoid interlacing problems?
Posted by: chemoul - 2021-02-14, 07:25 AM - Forum: Kodi / XBMC - Replies (2)

I'm using Kodi und a Firestick, with the NextPVR add-on.

As has been discussed here in a few threads, there are problems with interlacing (horizontal bars) when watching free to air TV (Australia, SD and HD channels), and the general consensus seems to be that the Firestick isn't powerful enough to properly deinterlace the video stream.

My question, is what device IS powerful enough, other than a PC or Raspberry?
Has anyone got any experience with an Nvidia Shield or similar? Firestick 4k?

Another solution would be to transcode the video stream prior to sending it from the NextPVR server to the Firestick/Kodi, but I seem to have read that there are no plans for this functionality?

Any advice would be appreciated.

  Fire Stick use

Way to trigger creation of recordings
Posted by: janoonk - 2021-02-11, 03:01 PM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (6)

I am updating the EPG_EVENT table with extra information from IMDB. I know after the daily EPG update I can use the PostEPGupdate.sh, because then NextPvr creates new recordings based on all the recurring schedules and rules, but is there another way to trigger this? Mainly for dev/testing purposes. When I use my program in production I will just use the PostEPGupdate.sh.

Feedback: V5 slow start up compared to V4
Posted by: dpr59 - 2021-02-11, 02:04 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (10)

Hi,

first off thanks for a great product.  The reason for this post is to provide feedback which I hope is useful.

I have been using V4 of NextPVR as my PVR "backend" for Kodi, on a dedicated Windows 10 PC.  I have just made the change to V5 and hit a problem that has taken me several hours to sort out.  The root cause of my problem was the change made to the start-up priority of the NextPVR service from "Automatic" in V4 to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" in V5.  On my setup this meant the NextPVR service took another ~90 seconds to start.

As my setup is a dedicated media PC used by all the family, I have tried to make it very user friendly.  Kodi is set to start automatically when the PC boots up.  It then looks to connect to NextPVR for guide information, etc.  This was fine with a "fast" starting V4, but not with the default "slow" start of V5.  It has taken me several hours to work out what was going on and then find the solution on the forum:  "You can change the service to be more like earlier version of NextPVR by changing the Startup type of the "NextPVR Service" to Automatic in Windows Service."

I would have thought my type of setup isn't that uncommon and suggest it would be helpful to mention this in the installation guide.  Something like:

“V5 of NextPVR default installation has a “delayed start” when the Windows first boots up.  If you want a fast start, this can be achieved by using the Windows Services utility to change the "NextPVR Service" start-up type from "Automatic (Delayed Start)" to “Automatic”."

Hope this feedback is useful.

Web App and Desktop App have inconsistent information in Pending Recordings
Posted by: MovieWiz - 2021-02-10, 10:05 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (21)

I have multiple recording directories and I sometimes use the desktop app to change the directory for a specific pending recording (for example, to use a ramdisk to speed up postprocessing).  This works and it always does what I asked.  However, when I later click on the pending recordings in the web app, the details of the recording can be different.  The most common things that are different are the directory and pre/post padding.  Often, they appear to be the default values from the corresponding recurring recording that generated the pending item.

It happens frequently and is usually uncorrectable.  However, it is also random.  Often, it displays the correct information.  I have not be able to determine a pattern.  In any event, the DVR always does what I specified in the Desktop App.

So I am just passing the information along in case someone else also experiences this and can provide additional info.  If I discover something more that could help, I will add to the thread.

When I'm reviewing my recordings for the upcoming evening, I find the web app's grid and scheduling screen to be really nice and would definitely prefer to use that.  However, I end up doing it instead in the Desktop app because of the unreliability of the information in the web app.

  HDHomeRun Quattro Opinions / Alternatives
Posted by: NumberFive - 2021-02-10, 05:58 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (8)

Hello,

I'm just wondering what the thoughts and opinions are of the HDHomeRun Quattro are?  Does it work well with NextPVR?  I've only ever used PCI / USB cards before, never a network tuner.  Are there better alternatives?

I've been having issues with dropped frames on another card, and I'm still hoping to fix that, but just pondering if maybe I should go another direction entirely.  Smile

Thanks

Add a single IPTV channel, manually?
Posted by: Kevin71246 - 2021-02-10, 03:46 AM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (1)

Is there a way to add a single IPTV channel, manually, like in ver 4?  Previously, I was able to do this, along with xml imports & exports so I could make my own custom lineup.  I'm thinking I could do it via creating an m3u file & host it, but that seems counter-productive and overkill for such a simple task.  Thanks!
