When playing a video via the Video Library, the OSD description area is currently unused (empty). While video playback from the Recordings panel has access to the description that's stored in the GB-PVR database, clearly, when playing a video library item, GB-PVR has no equivalent source for the description (and I see that it would be a complex endeavour to support capturing this kind of info into the database).
A simple solution might be for the GB-PVR video player to read the description for the current video from a file (if the description is not available in the database) before playing the video. It could look for a file in the same directory, with the same name as the video file but with a different extension (.desc?) and, if found, read the description text from the file for OSD use. (Similar to what many video players do for subtitles - using an .srt file if its present).
I mainly use the Video Library for movies and I'd be happy to manually create the description files by copying text from IMDB (or write a simple utility to automate it).
If the neccessary OSD "lookaside" logic was added to GB-PVR, there might even be other uses for it.
For UbuStream v2.2, I'm adding support for an n-tier group hierarchy so groups can contain groups (or a mix of groups and stations). While this will be handy to keep the UI manageable and avoid having to page through endless groups, I have been spurred to do this so DynSource apps can publish "nested" sections to more closely follow the structure of the web site they are using as their source.
I'm looking for input on the best way to enable DynSource apps to communicate the nested sections back to UbuStream. Currently, I'm thinking along the lines of using the xxxxSections.plx file to do this in such a way that the xxxxPlaylist.plx file can remain unchanged (so minimal changes to your app to support it). The new sections file might look like this:
Code:
[sections]
Player=Windows Media Player
section1=News
section1.1=World
section1.2=Business
section1.3=Features
section1.3.1=Politics
section1.3.2=Sci-Tech
section1.3.3=Health
section1.4=Sports
section2=Entertainment
section2.1=Movies
section2.2=Music
section3=Special Reports
NumberOfEntries=12
Version=2
The playlist.plx file would just use section names as it does today and UbuStream would figure out where in the hierarchy to put the playlist items. This is possible because "groups" and "group relationships" will be stored separately in the database. This mandates that group names must not only be unique within a DynSource but also unique within the UbuStream database. (Further, a name must be unique across all group/station items, so groups and stations can't have the same name). It makes sense to qualify names to ensure uniqueness, in any case.
Would this work for you? Any show-stoppers?
I'm also working on trying to create a small web site just for DynSource apps. Currently, there's no place to do this on the wiki (well, there's the DynSource page under the UbuStream plugin page, but that relies on me updating it all the time) so, to find available DynSource apps, users must search through forum threads looking for posts with attachments. The web site I'm planning would allow DynSource authors to maintain info about their "mini-plugin" and to upload new versions whenever they liked. It should provide "one stop shopping" for anyone looking for currently available DynSource apps. I'll put an obvious link to it on the UbuStream wiki page. If I do this (and it'll cost money to get it hosted), would y'all use the site?
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm also adding a Setup button to the DynSource panel in the config app. This will invoke an application that you can provide for maintaining any config data your app requires (eg. <dynsource_name>Form.exe). For instance, if you store any info the user enters in a .Net application configuration file associated with your main app, then your main app can easily read it in at run time.
Although i can watch tv, i cannot pause rewind or record. Upon clicking the pause button, i receive the message "Error: Failure playing back file". the feed appears to be bypassing my hard disc. The show appears to be recording and gives a message that it is, but the error message appears when i try to play during recording and after recording.
How does the gbpvr conversion end (kill) the process when I select to stop a conversion?
I´m asking that because I tried to use the stattik conversion batch file as a custom conversion profile, and it works very well but when I need to stop the conversion gbpvr kill the batch itself but mencoder keeps running.
I´m trying to figure a way to end the entire conversion process.
I am in the process of building a new htpc and will be using the same capture cards, blaster, and remote as in my current machine.
I was wondering if i install gbpvr on my new machine and then copy my old gbpvr folder over the installation will that cause all the settings to instantly be ready on my new machine or am i forced to set everything up from scratch?
I have some problems using the Archiverutility. In GBPVR I select a Video and press Archive - but most of the times it dosn't work, it just writes "Archiving" but it doesn't archive anything. However sometimes it works, and I don't know why. The same videofile can suddenly be archived even I have tried many times with no success.
Any ideas?
This problem is driving me mental:eek: . Zap2It does not update anything after 6:00PM...When all the good shows are on! I've cleared the EPG and then reloaded it with all the settings. All the channels are there but it won't update the channels passed 6:00pm unless the program starts before 6 and goes past 6:00. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also it was working up until about a month or month and a half ago.
Would it be possible for gbpvr to record several channels simultaneously if they are all in the same mux? Theoretically it should be. Actually the need for several tuners is only there if the channels are on different muxes.
I think Mediaportal is going to offer this functionality in their upcoming version. Is it possible to bring this to gbpvr as well?
i know the ir blaster is weak, but i can only seem to get a signal to register about 1 in 40 times (testing the enter button so haven't even started on the toggle button issue yet!!)
'best' position seems to be near the numbers and about 2cm away from the unit - even if it was good enough to change channels, my kids would have that moved as soon as the little flash caught their eye!!
any advice? anything else i can use for this ntl samsung SMT-2100C?
