  Portable GB-PVR via laptop?
Posted by: rowle1jt - 2007-04-17, 05:43 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

I spend many of weekends during the summer up at my family's cabin. For the times that I am not out in the boat or working on something, I'd like to be able to catch up some of my recorded TV. I have no high speed internet up there, I have only a horrid dial up connection while I'm there so streaming via EWA is out of the question. Not to mention my CRAP charter cable modem at the house.

I will have no need for guide data as there is no tuner installed in the machine. I have a good idea of what I want to do, but would like some input to point out the holes in my plan.

I am going to install GB-PVR on my laptop and install my old remote wonder on it as well. I plan on "copying" MPEG files/comskip files over to a directory on my laptop so that they can be played on a TV via the S-Video out on my laptop controlled by the remote wonder.

As far as I can tell, I'm good so far in my planning except for ONE thing. I want to be able to access the recordings from the recording menu and not the video archive menu. This way I get show info etc... I think it can be done with the export recordings on the pvr and then import on the laptop, not sure.

Does anyone do this? Or have any pointers? Or am I just out of luck, and will need to access them via the Video Archive menu?

Thanks... I appreciate the help!

Samsung LNT3253H or Sharp Aquos LC32D62U LCD
Posted by: taz - 2007-04-17, 05:23 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

I am currently looking for a 32" LCD TV. I have narrowed it down to a Samsung LNT3253H or Sharp Aquos LC32D62U. I am just curious if anyone has one of these and how they like it. I am also interested in how well it displays standard resolution broadcasts as that still makes up most of the cable lineup.

  Newbie question
Posted by: Turner - 2007-04-17, 04:59 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (8)

I want to buy an MVP and use GBPVR on it but have a few questions first. I currently hav a LeadTek WinTV2000 Tuner card (no MPEG2 encoder). This card is not supported as a capture device. I do use my computer and the applicaiton that came with the card to record TV shows (WinFastPVR). Questions are:

1. Do I need a supported TV tuner card to use all the MVP functions or does the MVP GBPVR act as a tuning device itself?

2. I know I will be able to access the recordings already on my PC with just the MVP but can I use GBPVR to schedule recordings from the TV?

3. If I do need a new tuner card I want to be able to watch live TV and record a different show at the same time (similar to my existing cable company box). Will I need a two tuner card such as the Hauppauge 500MCE?

4. I have multiple TV sets in the house and would like to use MVP's on all of them if I can get them to work. Do I need a tuner card in the PC for each set I want to use?

Thanks in advance for any help......

  PVR350 vs video/audio card setup
Posted by: jgwallace3 - 2007-04-17, 04:33 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (5)

I'm building my 1st PVR from an old computer (Intel 1Gz, 256Mb RAM, Windows XP) and chose the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-350 TV card hoping it would work for me. I really liked the idea of being able to offload encoding -and- decoding from my CPU; plus the fact there was a straight-forward TV output connection from the 350.

I set up the HW decoding to the 350 in GBPVR and am generally able to use the GBPVR software to output to my TV. BUT, the 350 seems to lock frequently on playback -- a condition I now see echoed on these forums, so I'm exploring other options.

I'm stuck on some basic concepts here, though. While I understand the concept of the 350's TV output -- splitting the TV signal via the (Hauppauge) dongle into separate A/V pieces (red, white, yellow cables) and feeding them to my (basic) TV; I'm a little fuzzy on how to do this with a separate video and audio card.

The video card in this PC is old (voodoo3 pci). The audio card, likewise, is fairly old (a soundblaster variant, I think). I'm willing to upgrade either, if needed (hopefully cheaply), but need a better understanding on what I've got and what I need to supply an adequate TV signal.

The video card has a VGA output and an s-video-like output (that works with an adapter supplied with the 350 card) to feed the yellow video TV input. I tried to hook this up to the TV but was unable to get any video signal on the TV from it. Is there a special setup (a video software decoding setting, perhaps?) within GBPVR to tell it to route the output video to the video card?

Likewise, the use of the audio card (an older sound blaster) to connect to the TV audio is confusing. It has a single line-out port that I'm at a loss as to how I'd hook it to my TV stereo input. Do I split the line with a Y-splitter and just connect it? As this line-out previously fed a simple set of stereo PC speakers, I'm concerned there's more involved here.

I know this seems pretty basic, but I'm just looking for some simple direction on PC --> TV connections for a video/audio card setup.

I appreciate any advice.

[99.12] Video Library - error: access to the path is denied
Posted by: congenictv - 2007-04-17, 03:31 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

I've noticed this error a while ago and I forgot how I got around it.

When you click on Video Library, it returns you to the previous folder you were in prior to exiting. When you access a folder that you do not have privileges to, it will immediately kick you out to the main menu giving you an error message. If you try to enter Video Library again it will say "Error: Access to the path Drive:\ is denied" since it is trying to access that same folder you last attempted.

My question is...is there an easy way to get Video Library to say open to the directory above or to go to next available directory? I think I may have to use config.exe to redefine the default video library folder and hopefully that'll reset it.

I notice this problem also occurs when you delete something. I forgot how exactly but I think it's when you delete a folder outside of GBPVR, and if that was the last folder you were in while in video library, then it will give you this same error message since it can't find this folder anymore.

Thanks Smile I hope I'm clear. Smile

  Sort order for video entries?
Posted by: kurbel - 2007-04-17, 02:45 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (3)

Hallo,
is there any possibility to define the sort order for the video entries?
I have a lot of TV videos and I would like to show there in a decending date order instead of name order.

  My PVR project
Posted by: Freakitchen - 2007-04-17, 11:25 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

Hi guys,

Hope this one is in the right place! Basically, my next project is to set up a PVR for my parents, made out of a combination of some older core components (an Athlon 2200, 512MB RAM, Radeon 9200SE) and some new additions (Hauppauge Nova-T 500 dual tuner card and a big hard drive).

At the moment, I've connected a completely different system to their TV to see how GBPVR behaves (installed the latest version). I'm using Composite out on the video card to composite in on their Bose audio system, which basically just patches the video straight through to the TV, which is an older Panasonic CRT widescreen model (not HD capable).

Obviously, the image is hardly crisp, but video plays back quite nicely. My biggest problem is, though, that I can only select standard aspect ratios for my resolution, as opposed to widescreen ones (it's currently set to 800x600). This means that, when I play a 16x9 .mpeg or .avi file that I've recorded on my own media system - through GBPVR - it un-naturally 'letterboxes' the video - as if it were trying to fit 16:9 output on a 4:3 screen.

Even using F7, I cannot make the video fill the screen to restore the correct aspect. Outside of GBPVR, using Media Player Classic to play the same files, I get the same problem, but this particular player has a "scale to 16:9" option which restores the correct aspect.

Apologies for all this info, but I hope it's clear what I want to do. I wondered if it were possible to sort this out from within GBPVR itself, or whether there was some way to select a widescreen resolution from Windows itself.

Any help much appreciated.

MCE 2005 remote, mute issue, double button press
Posted by: Wakalaka - 2007-04-17, 06:52 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (26)

I just switched my MCE 2005 remote driver from the HIP alternate driver to the default driver eHome Infrared Receiver driver. I was hoping this would make my mute issue go away -- when watching Live TV, if volume is muted, no buttons on the remote other than Mute do anything, even though I see them get processed by Event Ghost.

Problem #1 with eHome driver: it sends a keystroke and button press each time a button is pressed, resulting in a double press (e.g. down button moves down twice).

Problem #2 with eHome driver: keyboard stroke of button press is processed by the app on my PC that has focus, e.g. my web browser. Pressing down makes GB-PVR menu move down one item, but also scrolls my web browser down a few lines.

Does anyone have the MCE 2005 remote working with GB-PVR? If so, what driver are you using for Windows (I'm running XP), and what app do you use to send the button presses to GB-PVR?

I'm going back to the HIP alternate driver for now.

which video card revisited: ati or nvidia?
Posted by: pvrdude - 2007-04-17, 04:11 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I'm wondering about which video card is good for HDTV or if one just wanted the option of HD, which video card is a good performance/price combo. Also, I've read that ATI has fewer issues or problems but is that true?

So, if it's ATI, what about?:
X1950 Pro or X1950XT?

Or Nvidia?:
7900GT or 7950GT?

Most of those cards are similar in price and although, they might be overkill for analog or standard definition, I think they are minimum for getting decent HD.

I'm currently trying to decide or find out which one is best for a HTPC and gives the least amount of heat (or is best for cooling) but still has good performance.

I'm more certain (about what to get) about the tuner card and other computer hardware but still am undecided regarding video card.

  Database Error
Posted by: jburnette - 2007-04-17, 03:54 AM - Forum: NextPVR Enhanced Web Admin (NEWA) - Replies (4)

When I try to access the EWA I get the following error:

Exception Details: System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteException: SQLite error
no such column: hd

Source Error:

Line 122: aCommand.CommandText = "select hd from Schedule where scheduleid='" + UniqueProgrammeIdentifier + "'";
Line 123: aCommand.Connection = zapConnection;
Line 124: DbDataReader aReader = aCommand.ExecuteReader();
Line 125:
Line 126: // read from the database

I'm really not sure what data should be in the hd column, but I can tell you that gbpvr is working fine. Any idea what's going on?
