New buildup of Asus M2NPV-VM system
Posted by: soccerdad - 2007-04-18, 02:50 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (28)

Here are some pix of my new system going together.
The key features are:
Asus M2NPV-VM MB
AMD AM2 X2 3600+ CPU
1 gig of Ram
Sony/NEC DVD burner
XP Home
Antec NSK2400 case (manufacture's second, 1/2 price!)

Here is a shot of the case "defect" just some very fine scratches
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]
Here is the MB buildup before it went into the case. The case is tight so this is the only way to go. I added 1, PVR150 and 1 PVR150MCE after I put in the board.
I will add some more shots and a writeup of it all, including all my startup issues as soon as I can. The system is up and running and has replaced the MVP in my living room. I still have a few bugs (mainly around the DVD) to work out. The picture is great on my CRT through the Svid. I am still learning all the tuning. Thanks to all who helped with ideas.Smile
I think it is a great system for less than $450. (I did recycle my HD and capture cards.)

  xdvd .3 + gbpvr 99.12 -> hanging somewhere
Posted by: ultramandaddy - 2007-04-18, 02:34 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (11)

ok, I've been trolling here for about 2 weeks trying to figure out what's wrong on my system. I found several threads on xdvd including the one for the patch but my systems still not playing dvd's.

I Got a MediaMVP and gbpvr. I can get it to play mp3, mpeg, and pics no problem. Now, I'm trying to get it to play dvd's. From what i've read here, i install xdvd plugin, daemon tools, and vlc.

for xdvd, I go to gbpvr\skins\blue\xdvd and modify settings.xml to reflect the daemontool virtual cd. here's settings

<settings>
<TempFile>c:\dvd.mpg</TempFile>
<PlayMode mode="SIZE" value="150"/>
<DVDDrive>e</DVDDrive>
<BaseFileDirectory>c:\</BaseFileDirectory>
<MountDVDDrive>f</MountDVDDrive>
<ForceMvpMode>true</ForceMvpMode>
</settings

Pretty much standard. 1 real dvd player is "e", virtual dvd is "f". Installed the db patch in \plugins.

System has 3 dvd players + daemontool and 2 usb external hard drives.

I'm trying to get the dvd files on the usb hard drive to play, but no go. I can see the directories, and navigate into folder where it says "movie.dvd" and i try to play it. then, gbpvr hangs.

I setup another computer, same way and it seems to work fine.

I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong here. Is it the usb drive? maybe i can't put the dvd files on a usb drive?

appreciate any help out there.

Dual Booting with a single GBPVR database
Posted by: mruane - 2007-04-18, 02:32 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi

I have WindowsXP and Vista installed on the same box and I want to be able to dual boot, yet retain a single working GBPVR installation regardless of which OS I am currently using.

I have installed GBPVR into initially XP and then later Vista and both are working. What I want to do is have both installations of GBPVR (ie the XP and Vista installs) work with the same single database, so that recordings made are visible and accessible regardless of whether I am running XP or Vista.

Is this just a case of changing the Data Source entries in say the newer Vista installation GBPVR Config.xml file so that it points to the earlier XP installation copy of the GBPVR database rather than just .\gbpvr.db3?

Cheers Mike

  Upgrading PVR150 to PVR500 Problem
Posted by: mruane - 2007-04-18, 02:16 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

Hi

I have upgraded my single tuner PVR150 to a dual tuner PVR500 and removed the original PVR150, however GBPVR seems to be only recognising one tuner still and not both - ie it still thinks I have the original PVR150 installed.

I installed the new PVR500 and updated the drivers (v2.7a) that came with it. Then I changed the card type selection in Config so that it reflected the PVR500 Dual Tuner with FM Tuner and restarted the box. Windows XP Device Manager reports that two TV Tuners are present.

From within GBPVR, I selected one program to record which it accepted fine, then I selected another program to record for the same time slot but on a different channel. That's when I got a recording conflict error message.

Is there something else I should have done to reconfigure GBPVR so that it knows there are dual tuners present and that two recordings in the same time slot is OK.

Cheers Mike

  A few issues.
Posted by: scottiamit - 2007-04-17, 11:56 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (13)

Hi, I tried searching the forums but I didn't really know what to search for, maybe it is best if I try to explain...

Issue One:

I have a GBPVR machine with 2 Avermedia M150 TV tuners both working fine. On Wednesday night I record 3 TV shows in a row that are on the same TV channel, this works fine and all 3 are recorded. The issue is that they are all recorded with the same TV tuner which means that instead of recording the 3 minutes before and after the tv program, the TV show stops early and starts recording the next show. So when I watch the first show, often the end of it is in the start of the second show, and the end of the second show is recorded at the start of the third show. This is a bit of a hassle for example if I want to watch the first show and then realise I have already watched and deleted the second show (so I miss the end). This is also annoying when I want to keep the transcoded file as the end is in another file!

Ideally what I would like to happen is that if the second tuner is available at the time GBPVR needs to start recording the second/third show then use that instead that way the 3 minutes padding will still exist for each recording. The only other option I can think of is that all three shows are recorded as one and then split up later including the 3 minutes of padding which I guess would be a bit of a major to do.

Issue Two:

Often when I play a recording I am unable to skip forward or back at all (using the mouse or the remote). However if I play the file using the play command in the TV Guide (while it is still being recorded) I can skip fine, so that means that something is happening to the file when the recording stops (I am not sure if this is something GBPVR is doing to the mpeg file or if it is something to do with my Avermedia M150 tuner). Also the transcoded XVID file is fine and skip works. Any ideas?

Thanks heaps.

Scott Thompson.

  One-off unexplained crash
Posted by: bgowland - 2007-04-17, 11:00 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

sub - not sure we'd ever come to the bottom of this but I thought I'd post it FYI...

GB-PVR has been stable for me for a very long time but this evening I put the PC monitor on to find one of those 'Do you want to send to MS..." unhandled exception messages with GBPVRRecordingService as the faulting application.

There were two recordings actually running but stupidly I clicked the 'Dont Send' button which terminated the service - I'd just woken up from a nap so brain wasn't in gear.

Anyway - not sure what the cause was. It appears that something happened around 8:05pm - the App log shows...

Quote:Faulting application GBPVRRecordingService.exe, version 1.0.2614.26052, faulting module System.ni.dll, version 2.0.50727.42, fault address 0x00446fdb.
As I said, I'd just woken up so it took me a while to realise the service wasn't running - the systray app refused to open and trying to start the service manually told me that the service had started then stopped. The relevant App log entry for that is...

Quote:Service cannot be started. System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.DoBind(EndPoint endPointSnapshot, SocketAddress socketAddress)
at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Bind(EndPoint localEP)
at System.Net.Sockets.TcpListener.Start(Int32 backlog)
at System.Net.Sockets.TcpListener.Start()
at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.ExclusiveTcpListener.Start(Boolean exclusiveAddressUse)
at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Tcp.TcpServerChannel.StartListening(Object data)
at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Tcp.TcpServerChannel.SetupChannel()
at System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Tcp.TcpServerChannel..ctor(Int32 port)
at GBPVR.RecordingService.x116139cea0d00aa9.OnStart(String[] args)
at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)
I'm guessing that was just as a result of the Remoting objects not being cleaned up when the service crashed.

I rebooted (around 9:45pm) and things have been fine since. The only thing that has changed on my machine recently was a few MS updates which I'd applied about 12 hours earlier but several recordings have worked fine since then.

The only GBPVR 'event' that ties in with the 8:05pm applog entry is the ending of a recording (normal finish time 8pm + 5 mins post padding). Programme name 'A Pocket Full of Posies' on BBC4 which is a DVB-T channel so the recording would have been dvr-ms with an ASAP transcode to MPEG-2. When I rebooted the machine the transcode started up so it was obviously still in the transcode queue.

I've included all logs but can't see anything relevant myself.

Cheers,
Brian

Moving existing PVR to a new PC - How dumb is this idea?
Posted by: Jeckler - 2007-04-17, 10:43 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (9)

Right now I have 98.13 set up on my wife's PC. I just got a PC from work that I want to use in the living room, instead of using the wife's in the bedroom. She doesn't like hearing it all night, and it's running very poorly right now anyway, so an FFR is in order. GBPVR is installed on the C drive, and all the mpg's are on the F: drive.
Ok, here's "The Plan". Install my PVR150 in the new PC. Install 98.13 as well as .net. Then simply copy the entire devnz folder to the F: drive, remove and install it in the new machine, then overwrite the base install with my current setup.

"What can possibly go wrong?"
Am I looking at any issues? Video? Audio? .net 2.0, right?

convert .ts to mpeg - problems

HI,

I cannot convert a .ts file into mpeg-2. I have tried to use gbpvrconvert but it always stops after creating 194MB of a file. The source is 1.9GB.

Cheers,

Dan.

  Motion Adaptive Deinterlace
Posted by: pastro - 2007-04-17, 10:32 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

Ok, probably a dumb question but what difference does the deinterlacer make when I am hooked up to a 60hz interlaced TV?
Doesn't this only matter if I have a progressive scan TV?
