  99.12 Dongle Issue?
Posted by: UncleJohnsBand - 2007-03-21, 02:22 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (30)

Ok...I have two things that have appeard in my MVP experieince after loading GPVR 99.12.

I noticed the the previous dongle file I had was dated 11/12/2006. After loading 99.12 it is dated 2/16/2007.

With the new dongle my MVP sound is lower and I have a sporadic issue of the skip no longer working as well as the OSD....they just stop. Have to soft-power off and on to regain that functionality.

Returning to the previous dongle sound goes back up and no annoying loss of function.

Any thoughts?

hvr-1600 hdtv live tv, recording, playback
Posted by: HDlink - 2007-03-21, 01:41 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (16)

I am new to gbpvr, using hvr-1600 hdtv as my tuner.
After reading the forum here, I am able to map digital channels to EPG channels. I can see the channel in the small window, but when I run the GB-PVR, I cannot record, playback, or watch the live TV.

I find that it's hard to setup the hvr-1600 hdtv to the gbpvr. Any step by step guide around here?

Anyone can help?

thanks.

  Antenna Positioning...
Posted by: Cahill84 - 2007-03-21, 12:39 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (8)

I am helping my dad set up a HDTV, but for whatever reason it doesn't have a signal meter built in. So, I am going to disconnect my computer and take it down this weekend to help him position the HD antenna he just installed to receive ATSC signals. I have TSReader lite, but it doesn't really show you the signal strength and quality. Is there a freeware program out there to help us position an antenna for a specific channel? Or, do I have to erase my own channels measure the signal strength through GB-PVR and then move the antenna to improve the reception. I couldn't find another forum thread which had addressed this issue. I apologize if this question is a duplicate.

-Anthony

PS- I forgot to mention that I've already used antennaweb.org, but it's off by at least 15 degrees, so we're shooting blind. Well it's either off or there is some kind of magnetic interference with our compasses.

  Keystone & Geforce 5200
Posted by: BlueGreg01 - 2007-03-21, 12:24 AM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (7)

The image that i see on my TV is not proportionate to the shape of my TV (see attached)
I can easily fix this with the Nvidia Keystone tool, but when active it will reduce my frame rate to about 15fps. Has anyone had this same problem? know of a solution?

I've tried using other NON-Nvidia tools to create custom Resolutions, but they do not seam to work for TV output.

I have tried 640x480, 720x480 & 800x600
the higher Res does look nicer, but is still not quite proportional.

newbie says hello...and some help please!
Posted by: valmiki - 2007-03-20, 11:18 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (21)

hi folks,

greetings from Wales! it's cold here.... and wet, but that's nothing new Wink

after having spent the best part of the last week reading as much as I can on gbpvr, I am about ready to jump in and start building my first htpc, but I could really do with some advice please, so I don't make any major errors.

Ideally I will be buying a dual dvb-t tuner (Nova?) and an analogue tuner (not decided which one), so that I have three viewing/recording channels, so to speak.

as a base start, I will be buying an antec fusion case:

http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/112657

i'm really looking for some help on all the other bits, especially what motherboard to get? the fusion case comes with a firewire socket at the front which I could really use, but most matx boards don't come with this.

also, most matxs have only 2 pci slots, which I guess will be used up with the two capture cards I'll need.

can I rely on onboard vga? see, at this point, I'm getting out of my depth now as I'm not to hot on what would be good to use with gbpvr. I'm looking at boards, with unichrome, shared video memory (what would be recommended minimum?), intel video chips. I have searched but can't really find much. The last thing I want to do is find that I'm underpowering the whole setup.

ebuyer do some good deals, and they've always been good to me, so if an suggestions you make are available from them then so much the better.

I'll be linking the htpc up to a 42" rear projection tv (via scart), which is 100hz, so would it be best to get a graphics card for tv-out, and use that, or could i rely on a tv-card to do this for me, or do some boards come with this?

what is the favoured way of connecting to scart used by you guys, via s-video?

i'm not fussed about using intel or amd, but i'm assuming 1gb ram should be enough for now.

i'll be using the whole setup to watch usual stuff, live tv, streamed divx from another pc, recording, etc. nothing too unusual I think.

i can't think of anything more right now, it's getting late, and have an early start tomorrow. don't really have a budget, i'm not doing this on the cheap, but I don't really want (or need i think) a top-end system! just enough to do the job, got nobody to show off to (well the missis is hardly ever impressed).

i would really appreciate for any and all suggestions, I won't be able to reply unti tomorrow evening but honestly, thanks for all help and advice given Smile

regards

valmiki

  EPG won't auto update.....
Posted by: DoPeFiSh - 2007-03-20, 11:16 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

EPG won't auto update, I have I-xmltv and that is working just fine, I have I-xmltv set to update everynight at 2:00am and gbpvr set to update everynight at 3:00am and when check it in the morning the EPG is empty, I can then go into gbpvr config and update the EPG databases and save and it is fine till the next day......so I know I-xmltv is working, all the days are there, and gbpvr seems to know where to look, just not at night.......

Thanks

  LIRC / WinLIRC
Posted by: mvallevand - 2007-03-20, 10:21 PM - Forum: MVPMC dongle - No Replies

I am hoping to help add LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote Control) to mvpmc sometime this week and if anyone can think of some useful ways this could work with GBPVR and emulation mode let me know. It might help with the implementation.

Here are a couple of links.

Frequency of database scans for recordings?
Posted by: ApexHack - 2007-03-20, 09:57 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I was curious how often, or after which activities, does GB-PVR check the database against the drive contents?

Sometimes something goes haywire with the results of what postprocessing.bat has done and I would like to fix it so it shows up in Recordings if I knew I was in the window.

The most recent instance is that I have last night's 24 as _original in my originals folder, but the cleaned up file with the name GB-PVR recognizes is missing from the 24 folder.

Anyhow, I'm sure I'm too late for this one, but if I can understand the way it works maybe I can smooth out problems in the future.

Thanks & Cheers

This sounds silly I'm sure can some clear this up?
Posted by: Pochrist - 2007-03-20, 08:51 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

I have a Sony Grand WEGA 42 HD TV.

I Use Cablevision as my TV provider. I understand that the HD channels are encrypted and so the only way to record them is to use my STB as the output to my Wintv PVR 250.

I currently use my PVR to record kids shows, so it doesn't need to be HD, in this case I just put a splitter on the cable line and one goes to the STB and the other to the Wintv PVR 250. This gives me the flexability of watching TV while my PVR records Dora the Explorer or something.

Heres the wierd part if I take the second cable line out of the Wintv PVR 250 and put it directly into the back of the Sony Grand WEGA 42 HD TV, the TV will run a scan and setup (tune I assume) 70 analog channels and I a number of Digital channels. If I change channels I get 2 CBS and 2.1 CBS HD and so on.

So how is my TV picking up these HD channels OTA (which I thought was Antenna - litteraly over the air)

I just put a Wintv HVR 1600 in the PVR and I'm using the analog side as a 2nd tuner for even more Dora's.

Could the ATSC side pick up the HD channels the way my ony Grand WEGA 42 HD TV does.

VideoArchive GetTVInfo not working in new version
Posted by: sgilani - 2007-03-20, 07:37 PM - Forum: Video Archive - Replies (6)

Hi,

I can't get the GetTVInfo program to work with the new Video Archive beta version.. from the looks of it, it seems like the problem is that the database is now SQLite but its still expecting an mdb:

Quote:
Archive DB not found; copying initial file from C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Jeff\video archive.mdb to C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\video archive.mdb
Did not find base archive dir; exiting

Sure enough, there isn't any video archive.mdb in the Jeff folder.. I guess we just need a new version of GetTVInfo ?
