While carry out some work on another machine I inadvertantly pulled the power plug to my RPI4 which runs NextPVR. In 999 case out of 1000 this wouldn't have been a problem but on this occasion the SD card was corrupted and the PI refused to boot. Having time on my hands, under the UK national COVID lockdown, I decided to rebuild the PI using the new native USB boot feature using a small SSD I had to hand. This all went well and I soon had a working PI again. I have been using NPVR 5.x since January and have a number of recordings that I wanted to reimport into NPVR, this is when my problems started. Due to the way in which the corruption happened I had the recordings (*.ts and *.xml files) stored safely on my NAS but the database and config.xml had been lost and I didn't have a recent export of the recordings. OK, not great problem I thought. I recreated the config via the web app and was ready to start reimporting the recordings. I have some films and a number of TV series recorded so I made a start with the films being individual files. It turns out that the xml file created by NPVR at recording time is NOT quite the format needed to reimport the recording should a problem like mine arise. I needed to edit each xml file to make the necessary changes before the import of each recording could be made. I have done this for most of the films but the thought of changing each series recording xml file is something I will have to do a bit at a time.
I know all the pain of the above is mine - however, with the stable door firmly bolted, I looked around to see if anybody had posted a backup regime (app, script etc) on the forum but couldn't find any. I guess I will need to create a script (to be run via crontab at a suitable time ?) which does the following:
stop the NPVR recording service
copy the database and config.xml file to a safe location
restart the NPVR recording service
runs a recordings export process
I think I can manage to script the first three items but how can I achieve the last (export recordings) ?
Sub - could I make a heart felt plea that you consider adding a facility to a future NPVR version to provide a backup process that allows the the user, if they wish - I do, to save the files needed for a restore like mine above to a safe location of their choosing ? I have attached a file showing the before and after changes to the xml files I had to make to get the recordings to import successfully.
I decided to change my PIN yesterday. Much to my surprise, connecting to my server with the iOS app still worked, without updating the PIN on the iOS side. I wasn't sure if maybe this had to do with being on my home WiFi, but today I was at my parent's house and did some more testing while I was there. I did a hard close of the iOS app, then restarted the app and deleted the existing host entry. I did another hard close of the app, then started it again and made a new host entry - but supplying the *old* PIN. Access to my NextPVR server still worked. Then I repeated the steps just mentioned. This time, I entered "abcd" for the PIN (obviously, that is not my actual PIN). Access to my server still worked. So it seems like the NextPVR server is not checking the PIN at all.
And I *am* sure that the new PIN entry worked, because I was no longer to use Kodi to connect to my server until I updated to the new PIN. Starting Kodi with the old PIN gave me some error message about not being able to connect or start the plugin, which seemed like reasonable behavior. Anyway, for some reason, it looks like the PIN check is being bypassed entirely for the iOS app. So it looks like my server is wide open to anyone who connects to the correct port on my router. The server I'm running is version 5.0.9.201026 on Docker (64 bit).
I am currently running a single USB TVB-T2 tuner on a Windows Server Essentials 2016 set up as a media server, and I am looking to expand my PVR so I can record and watch more than one channel at a time... I have seen the above card for a good price, and was wondering if anyone is still running it, and whether it is worth getting. I know that it I may not get it going on my Server 2016 machine, but I have a Windows 10 machine I can use as a Next PVR server.

Been getting intermittent issues with my DVB-S dual tuner (Freesat UK) where recording streams appear to start and then just stop within seconds or minutes. This may be a tuner fault (fairly old hardware now, no more driver updates), BUT NextPVR doesn't seem to even notice that the recording stream has stopped when this happens. The tuner status and the recordings page in the windows client and web UI all show that the programs are still being recorded / have their expected full length, its only when I try to play them that I know things have gone wrong this way.
Anyway, this occurred with 3 recordings tonight after a fairly reliable run of a few days so I thought it would be a good opportunity to capture the logs (I've also attached the recording ts files themselves as they are so small), in case someone can determine what's wrong or if there's anything can try, short of buying a new tuner card.
Having issues with the recordings. It seems the Ts file doesnt add the end / finsihed point into the file when the show is done.
When i load the file it starts playing find, but the duration of the file says 24+ hours.
If i watch without hitting any buttons, it is ok, but as soon as i try to forward past commercials, or start in the middle, nextpvr wont play it anymore.
If i try to skip ahead, it bounces it back to the same spot with every press of the button.
Ive tried playing the file within Media player and kodi, both with the same result.
I previously used NextPVR v4 together with Kodi as frontend. Now I installed the latest NextPVR v5. Everything works fine except encrypted channels are not decrypted any more. Did I miss that CI/CAM is not supported any more / not yet or should it work? In v4 there was the option to use CI/CAM for the tuner, which is also not available now in the v5 configuration web site.
My TV card is a Digital Everywhere FloppyDTV-S2 with an Irdeto Cryptoworks CI Modul and valid card. Other receiver programs are capable of decoding, so the hardware seems to be fine.
