All, I have had to reinstall windows, and now cannot get the GBPVR to find any channels using my HVR1300 (used to work fine!).
Sub seems to think its a drivers issue... I have downloaded the latest from the website but cannot see any TV. Strangely, the hauppauge apps work ok...
So, what driver versions are you using, and where did you get them ?
Hi all!
I'm a very new and excited DIY DVR guy. I've built many Windows & a few Linux-based computers. From the tons of sites I've been doing research on, DVRs should be a walk in the park. I'm just hoping to get some valid opinions on this from some of you that have successfully done your own DVR builds.
I have TIME WARNER digital cable and just standard, non-HD TVs.
1) If I do a build using XP Pro and GBPVR software, will my 'non-tech' family be able to use the system without my help?
2) Hauppage products seem to come up in almost every site I've been to involving building a DVR. Would most of you agree that they have the best products for this?
3) I understand I can record program A while watching program B, but can I still use the PAUSE, REWIND, FASTFORWARD features on the show I am watching?
4) Out of all the build-it-yourself DVR/PVR sites out there, which one has brought you the most successful build?
5) What evil bastard thought of putting Heroes and 24 on the same night at the same time? (This is my true inspiration for actually building a DVR, I've been kicking the idea around for months.)
A few moments before the Sports Score ticker displays on the screen, I get these static-type lines across the screen. Any ideas what would be causing this?
This is presented in the hopes it might help someone else or give the ideas....
I had a problem of unhandled interrupts that flooded my setup causing very high CPU usage when a show was recording, though TaskManager showed very little CPU usage. Using the Process Explorer (from Systinternals.com - since bought by MS), I was able to find the out about the hardware interrupts and the DPCs that were eating the machine up.
I thought I solved it in this old thread (the thread subject in the hardware area is " Very high CPU usage with PVR-150 and GBPVR") and then the problem recently returned. I found that the AverMedia 150 tuner, the Dlink wireless card and the onboard audio were all sharing interrupt 11. That sounded bad. I installed a Soundblaster live 5.1 card that was laying around and as I disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS I noticed several other devices I could disable, freeing up interrupts! I turned off the serial ports, the parallel port, the onboard audio and game ports.
When I rebooted, each device (tuner, live! audio and wireless card) was on its own interrupt!! I never thought to disable the legacy ports to free them up.
For now, it appears the lost interrupts and DPC issues are gone. Now if they come back, I'll have to dig deeper and see if one of my cards is going flaky with intermittent failure. But it sure seems like a no-brainer, as I look back on it, to free up all those interrupts. (Who knows, maybe XP was handling the situation before just fine and it was a bad card, but it seems logical to hand out those unused interrupts.)
Getting the error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
Only happens if I stop GB PVR then restart it. Restarting the recording service fixes it.
Using PVR 250, winXP home SP2
Things I've done to troubleshoot:
Uninstall/reinstall video card drivers
Uninstall/reinstall gbpvr
Uninstall/reinstall Antivirus software
From the event log, it looks like netlimiter is the offender, but I don't have it run at startup and it's not running - could it possibly cause problems just because it's installed, even if it's not running?
Also, do you have the install for the MS hotfix in the survival guide? It's not available for download.. I'm trying to get it now, but if you have it, I'll be a guinea pig to see if it resolves this issue.
Thanks a lot, this is the best PVR software I've seen yet!
1. Maybe just a question, but, I have the user/groups setup for parental control. How do I logout and login as a different user.
2. Can we have an option of a default user to login as so I don't have to login everytime. This way, the default login is setup for the kids. For this to work, I would need the above too.
3. If not #2, make it so that I don't have to login until I get to a folder that has permissions on it. Again, this is so I don't have to login everytime. #1 is also required for this.
I would need #2 or #3 to improve the WAF of this feature.
Thanks,
Greg
BTW, for the DVD2MPG part, I found that installing AnyDVD lets me keep using VA to RIP DVDs, even the ones that DVDDecryptor can't decode.
I've been using GB-PVR for about six months with no problems, but all of a sudden I've been unable to obtain EPG from zap2it. I keep getting the message that my source is not set up and a return of '(401) not authorized' I set up the source again and even created a new account with zap2it with no success.
I don't remember changing any settings that might account for this error.

In the TV guide screen for example it would be nice to have a help button or a drop down menu that had a QUICK KEY guide and explanation for that screen. They'd need to be user configurable since the keys are user configurable.
In any non-full screen mode a drop down menu with key info and other help possibly a hyperlink to the wiki. It takes a long time to learn all the features and keystrokes since I have to go to the wiki each time to look something up.
