  Desktop app stuttering
Posted by: NickH - 2020-11-07, 11:14 AM - Forum: Windows - Replies (4)

Since earlier this week, watching with the Desktop App on Win10 x64 has been continually stuttering with the picture and audio cutting in an out very often - like the tuner cutting out. It is not happening with the web app which works fine.

It is all weird as there have been no recent updates. KB4580419 has failed to install  for the last few days so I've just installed it manually, rebooted and it made no difference. Coincidentally my bluetooth mouse has been playing up at the same time and I keep having to run the Bluetooth troubleshooter to reconnect the mouse if I don't use it for a few minutes (without even the PC going to sleep).

I am up to date with NextPVR which I think I updated on the day of release and it worked fine for a while.

Just over a week ago I upgraded the PC from 8GB -> 16GB RAM but the TV was OK for a few days after that. While troubleshooting the Bluetooth I have updated its drivers and Intel Graphics driver. I could try downgrading the graphics driver as that may have been around the same time as the issue started. The Bluetooth update was a couple of days later.

I am attaching a log in case it helps.

  HD channel missing
Posted by: mark31 - 2020-11-07, 04:22 AM - Forum: Linux - Replies (8)

First I am new to NextPRV so please forgive me if this may already been ask.

After scanning for channels I noticed one channel (12-1) is in SD and not HD. I know the channel transmitting in HD. I have confirmed that the tuner is working, because my other PVR routine "kaffeine", displays the 12.1 in HD. I try re-scanning to no effect. So why is NextPVR finding this station in SD vs HD? Also, is there away I can manually force NextPVR to look for the channel in HD?

New Install can't record or play live TV
Posted by: SailTV - 2020-11-06, 09:59 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (8)

I installed NextPVR 5 on Linux Mint 19.3. I was able to scan for and find around 60 channels.
When I try to watch one of these channels from TV Guide by selecting the channel and clicking on Watch Now, I get the message "Failed to start requested stream".

Posted by: mvallevand - 2020-11-06, 04:04 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (2)

I found this  https://www.windowslatest.com/2020/11/06...x803f8001/ and apparently the problem is widespread

I ran the linked PS command and so far so good.  I expect this will get resolved fairly soon

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage

Microsoft have resolved the issue with patches.

TV Everywhere Support (Maybe via Extra)
Posted by: pkscout - 2020-11-06, 04:49 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

I've been going back and forth about this request, but after seeing the thread in the general section about locast support, I thought I'd post it here just for giggles. Right now I am using Channels DVR to "convert" TV Everywhere channels (which I have access to through my Spectrum login) to IPTV channels that I can ingest into NextPVR. It's working (I'm using an RPi4 since there is no transcoding, just some remuxing of the strem apparently), and I've turned off my analog encoder/cablebox/IR blaster solution for now in favor of that. But it would be nice to do it without another piece of hardware/software. TV Everywhere is more complicated than locast mostly because it looks like you have to login, get a list of channels, authenticate, and then use widevine to decode things. So it might not be reasonable to expect an Extra to manage all that (and I don't think I have the knowledge of TV Everywhere and/or widevine to do the programming work).

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  Notification of updates
Posted by: LeGrandZombie - 2020-11-06, 12:26 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

Since I rarely have a need to go to Settings page of the web client I was wondering if a link (or some other indication) to the announcement could be placed on the  main menu bar when a new update is available. This would be more likely to draw attention for people wanting to stay current.

  Locast.org support
Posted by: mvallevand - 2020-11-05, 08:27 PM - Forum: Extras - Replies (137)

I have been reading a lot recently about locast.org https://www.locast.org/ which could be a reasonable alternative to using tuners in many places in the US.  They write that they cover 45% of the US market (see list below).  It does appear to be legitimate since they do take several measures to prevent out of market viewing.  Like anything the success of locast.org will depend on users donating but the price seem pretty reasonable.  Of course cable companies may not agree but that is for discussion.

I have been able to create an extra for NextPVR that hopefully will allow you you to use this service but I am looking for some people to help me test.  Eventually if there is demand I can add XMLTV importing too, just no point in doing this if no one wants it.   For now I expect the EPG will come from

The streams are already h264/aac so they will integrate better with NextPVR web (no transcoding) then traditional tuners and should work on any platform that v5 supports.

The extra is based on two open source project locast2plex and the locast addon for Kodi so in theory anyway it should be working ok.

If you live in one of these markets and are interested in testing let me know.  You will need to register on locast.org to activate an account.

  Inaccurate commercial skip
Posted by: jtanderson - 2020-11-05, 07:47 PM - Forum: NextPVR Support - Replies (3)

I've been seeing inaccurate commercial skips with both the Windows client and the NextPVR Kodi add-on.  It appears this problem may be occurring only with 480i content and it is really a problem with timeline calculation.  In general, NextPVR is both starting and ending the skip prematurely.

I have verified that the skip points generated by comskip are accurate using both the review function of comskip and by verifying the edl file using VideoReDo.

In one example, the edl file shows the beginning of a commercial break at 560.73 seconds (~9:20).  The commercial marker indeed starts at 9:20 according to the NextPVR client timeline.  But the 9:20 point on the timeline isn't really the 9:20 point in the program.  The point in the stream that the NextPVR client shows as 9:20 is really the 8:22 point in the stream according to VideoReDo.  The actual commercial break starts at the 10:17 mark according to the NextPVR client timeline.

The program in question is 480i, 29.97 fps.  It was recorded from an OTA digital sub-channel from an HDHomeRun.  The end of the program is at 29:50 according to the NextPVR timeline and 30:02 according to VideoReDo.

I checked out a 1080i program and a 720p program and in both cases the timeline was acceptably accurate.  I've seen this problem with every 480i program I have looked at, but that is admittedly a small sample.

  WinTV Dual-HD USB stick
Posted by: Red5ive - 2020-11-05, 01:09 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (4)

Hi guys
Just wanted to check that this stick was compatible with NextPVR before a possible purchase.
https://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/product...ualhd.html
Will be using it with DVB T2 for freeview HD.

If it is has anyone tried using two of them on the same PC to get 4 feeds?
