  TheTVDB API for v4 users
Posted by: mvallevand - 2020-11-13, 12:42 PM - Forum: Legacy (v4.x and earlier) - No Replies

I have been reading about the demise of the free TheTVDB API for a while and is becoming clearer that there will be a big impact on v4 users so I thought I'd make a post here to give users a heads up.  Basically the biggest source of meta art for TV series will be disappear.  The have announce that the new API is starting now and the current API will not be available by the end March 2021.

If art in NextPVR is of importance know is the time to start to fully move to v5.  v5 already can use another source (tvmaze) making it more future proof.

In addition to just the API change users will be charged to use the API https://www.thetvdb.com/subscribe.  Many more details where in a post I found here https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthr...p?p=627987

Pi4 and best possible low-power setup?
Posted by: TheRealRoland - 2020-11-12, 10:44 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (2)

So, been browsing a bit through the forum, and i think i'd like some advice on what the best low power usage setup would be, when using RPis.

I have an 8gb Pi4, and i think i have a Pi3 somewhere gathering some dust.

So far i've tried:
- run nextpvr on the pi4, using the web UI HDMI-ed into the tv. Seems to be going ok. Some UI usability issues that have been solved in third-party players like kodi
- run kodi on the Pi4. Even without nextpvr in the background, it seems to be a bit too slow, showing some lag and stutter when selecting menu items. So i don't know how this would improve if i run the pvr frontend through kodi to talk to the backend on that same Pi4

What would be the easiest way to get a less-laggy kodi (or other system) to run, and have nextpvr serve as the backend? Should i get another pi4, and run kodi on it, connecting it to the backend pi4 running nextpvr?

Ideas? Let me know :-)

BTW: am retiring an old laptop that was running mythtv 0.27... Finally getting rid of that energy hog!

R.

Show the channel number on the information bar when watching live tv
Posted by: TheRealRoland - 2020-11-12, 08:01 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

When selecting to watch a show live, you see the channel number and the name of the show. However, the next time you view this information (by hovering over the player window in a browser), all the info is there, except the channel number.

Use of keyboard navigating through Program Guide
Posted by: TheRealRoland - 2020-11-12, 07:37 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

To improve the web UI, is it possible to:
- use the keyboard arrows to move left / right / up / down through the program guide entries
- use the enter key to open an entry
- have a shortcut key to highlight and open the dropdown list to select the day to view in the program guide
- when reaching the beginning or end of the day - refresh the screen to show the next day of the program guide

Program Guide view - show summary information of any entry
Posted by: TheRealRoland - 2020-11-12, 07:35 PM - Forum: Wishlist - No Replies

A couple of options here:
- Hover over a program guide entry, and show as a hover/popup some information of that particular show
- Show for any program entry, as space allows, some summary information of that particular show

When clicking in the program guide on a specific channel / icon of the channel, show all program guide entries for just that channel.

New user - got it to work on Pi4 without drama
Posted by: TheRealRoland - 2020-11-12, 04:52 PM - Forum: Linux - Replies (5)

Hey, i know on forums you hear about all the problems encountered during installation, etc.

Just wanted to drop a note that i got things working by simply installing the .deb package on the Pi4. No drama.

It probably helps that i have previous experience with MythTV, already have a SD schedule set up, knowing terminology, and overall approach. But yeah, this is smooth.

I'll be tinkering with this the coming days - couldnt get MythTV 031 to work on the Pi4 with a HDHomerun tuner - so am happily surprised this is so much easier.

  Password length
Posted by: VCR58 - 2020-11-12, 03:47 AM - Forum: NextPVR Android Client - Replies (1)

A while ago I changed my NextPVR pin from a 4 digit to a 10 digit pin. Everything has been working fine with Kodi. But today I could not access my server with the Android client outside my lan. I know it used to work so I changed the pin back to 4 digit and then I could connect.

I tested connecting with increasing pin lengths and found that the Android client will not connect with a 10 digit pin. A 9 digit pin does work.

I can use a 9 digit pin but I was wondering if the Android NextPVR client limits the password length?

  Encrypted Sat channels with CI+
Posted by: Rens - 2020-11-11, 04:24 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (2)

Hi! I am new to the forum and new to NextPVR, but I like it already as I almost got my project to function as planned.  Smile NextPVR is easy to configure and works well (as does the Kodi addon).

Here's my setup:

Terratec CI DVB-S2 receiver with native Fransat neotion CAM and smartcard (viaccess-orca) connected to a mini PC running Windows 8.1 and NextPVR.

Now what I want to do is stream Sat channels to a friend who is not allowed to install an antenna at home. So I've put it in my back yard and hooked it up to NextPVR, with port open to the internet. Works like a charm for the unencrypted channels, but:

I would like to get the encrypted channels to work as well, using the CI+ card. Now I have used the search function and I've read that there is no support for CI in the version of NextPVR.

Will it work if I install v4? Or do you know of any other way (or an alternative, sorry Blush ) to get it to work?

Thanks a lot for any help.

  NextPVR SSD filling up
Posted by: cookrd1 - 2020-11-10, 06:59 PM - Forum: macOS - Replies (2)

I have a late 2015 MBP, Catalina, 1TB SSD.  I installed NextPVR on it using the suggested procedure including .NET.  Everything seems to work well, I had a lot of space left on my SSD.  I record shows to an external USB drive.  I thought everything was working well, but recently my MBP tells me my SSD is full.  Initially, I though that was strange but deleted old stuff I didn't need since I was in a hurry and had recorded a bunch of stuff to the SSD.  However, now I think there is a problem because I can watch my disk usage grow in Finder - Users, My User Account - the file size and number of files just constantly increase.
Not sure how to stop the NPVR on the MBP so I haven't tried that; one time I had to reboot the MBP and I had a hard time figuring out how to restart NPVR, not sure I did it right, maybe that is the problem?
Not very familiar with Mac.  Perhaps I should install NPVR via Docker - not familiar with that either.
Help/Ideas?
Bob
