Increasing the W.A.F. (Wife Acceptance Factor)
Posted by: mark_t - 2007-01-11, 01:09 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (28)

I have a 4 tuner server, 2 pc front ends in client mode and a MVP, so content is viewable and schedule-able on all TV's in the house. It works great but I can't get my wife to use it. She is intrigued by commercial free TV, after comskip and clean do their work, but I just can't get to the "last mile".

We had a bad experience with a show we were watching a few years back and she hasn't been willing to use it since.

Love to hear suggestions or techniques others have used to increase the WAF.

TIA
Mark.

  CDG Karaoke files, PLEASE....
Posted by: jabnet - 2007-01-11, 12:51 PM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (2)

I know there's a way to play CDG files using myvideos plugin... as described in this post ; but I know it is possible to play directly the files with internal videoplayer, only if .cdg extension is added to playable files. I've renamed a cdg file to avi after install the karaoke plugin, but although the file is played nice... there is no sound (mp3 file associated doesn't works).

please it seems to be possible and easy check it out...
thanks anyway

Captured Picture Quality and PVR 150
Posted by: PhilTheDoc - 2007-01-11, 12:01 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I receive digital cable through a STB that outputs to my (32in LCD HD) TV via SCART as an RBG signal and it looks fine (as good as DVB-T). It's all 16:9. If I capture this with a SCART to s-video adapter with a Hauppauge PVR 150 into GB-PVR at 720x576 and stretch it to 16:9 will it look as good as the direct signal?

Basically, I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy a Hauppauge PVR 150. I'm sure some of you folks have done this already and I need to know if you're happy...

TIA

  EPG Update
Posted by: philip1982 - 2007-01-11, 09:48 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

My GBPVR is scheduled to update the EPG a few times a day using - "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\GBPVR.exe" -UpdateEPG

It's slightly annoying, in that GBPVR then runs up - if I'm doing something else, I have to wait.

Can I stop it opening up?

  Livetv freezes on hour/half hour
Posted by: Datphysh - 2007-01-11, 06:25 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

Greetings,

Been a Gbpvr user for a while now. Recently (read: yesterday) bought a new sound card to fully utilize the home surround system I have as I have a dedicated HTPC.
Did a complete reinstall, everything fresh on the box today. I was previously using all the most recent drivers, and I am now as well. specs as follows:

Windows 2k updated with SP4 and all critical fixes, DX9.0c (or whatever etc etc)
Amd Athalon XP 2.? gig
1 gig ram
ATI x1300 512mb onboard ram
Turtle Beach Montego DDL sound card
soyo KT-600 ultra dragon platinum MB
3 Hard drives: 2 on IDE cable, one slave SATA drive
all most current drivers and the latest (99.5) Gbpvr

now I'm having an issue where exactly on the half hour/hour livetv will complete freeze the computer. no ctrl+alt+del, no esc, no nothing. I'm no expert, I'm not even that bright, but it seems to me it's freezing when it tries to create a new file for Livetv.
Does anyone have any ideas? Anything I can do to further troubleshoot and pinpoint the problem? any questions I can answer to obtain aid?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

*edit*
well, in continued testing: I use dedicated partitions for my recordings and for my livetv buffer. I changed the livetv buffer to a different partition, and it just cruised through the last hour change without hitch. I shall continue testing and keep posting. however, if anyone has any input, I'd be happy to discuss it.

*edit 2*
well, after continued testing, it seems I may have had a bad sector on the partition that I was using for my livetv buffer. why I hadn't encountered it before this time after months of using it, I am unsure, but....
I hope that perhaps this information may help someone else, as I am lucky that I may have figured it out without making to many people scratch their heads. At the very least, I'm happy that it didn't lead to frantic attempts to see if there was a code problem.

BTW
I love gbpvr, would like to take this opportunity to thank Sub for his fine work.

  tv guide - duplicate channels
Posted by: RogerH - 2007-01-11, 04:15 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - No Replies

I'm experimenting with HD over the air. My core machine records analog cable with 2 tuner cards. I use zap2it for the EPG. I put a HDTV wonder card on a different machine along with a different zap2it account to get the OTA channel guide. I noticed that the tv guide displays the digital OTA channel the same as the analog cable guide does. Is there a way to change how the tv guide displays the duplicate channels.(how to tell the difference once I put the 3 cards in one machine?) I also noticed there is a new tv guide plugin... One other thing, I plan on getting a D-Link dsm-520 medialounge to play the HD content (currently using the MVP to set up/watch recordings) I read a thread here about using TVersity to drive the medialounge. It sure would be nice to see the tv show discriptions on the medialounge. Best of both worlds this way,Mvp to setup recordings and ML to play back. Maybe this should be posted in the wishlist area...

  DirecTV question...
Posted by: _Dude_ - 2007-01-11, 04:11 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (4)

I'm using DirecTV... now with that out in the open :-) here's the question...

I just installed a Happ 150-PVR in my computer and am using gbpvr to create myself a nice little PVR. [Nice program by the way!!!]..

I have the cable from the LNB going into the box and then from the box to the 150-PVR card... the problem is that I have to set the card to channel 3 and have to set the channel on the Directv reciever to record what I want.

Did I hook this up wrong? I'm a little confused at the moment and probably over thinking the entire process but..

Should I hook up my computer directly to the TV [use as a monitor]?
Should I be able to use the channels within gbpvr or do I need to keep this on 3 and continue to record as I am... seems kind of pointless and defeating the purpose to do it this way...

Many thanks!!

  Keyboard shortcut
Posted by: drugstore_cowboy - 2007-01-11, 02:26 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

Is there a way to invoke the GBPVR screensaver using a keyboard shortcut? I checked the wiki and didn't see any such option... but then again I have a habit of not seeing things that are directly in front of me Smile

I do see the screensaver plugin that allows one to call it but I was hoping to invoke the native GBPVR screensaver (it is dark and if I fall asleep to the television it does not light up the room)

Thanx

  Image file playback
Posted by: drugstore_cowboy - 2007-01-11, 02:23 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I tend to save movie files in bin/cue format and I was hoping that since daemon tools supports this format already this file extension type could be added alongside the .iso format?

Thanx
