During the Christmas holiday, I managed to get a machine dedicated as an HTPC setup and running - cudos to GBPVR for making it simple and painless! (Tried Myth, and MediaPortal with no luck). (v99.5)
I do have a question regarding Transcoding though - can't seem to find an answer in the Wiki or the forum. Do I need to install anything else to get Transcoding to work? i.e. do I need additional encoders installed?
Haven't tried it yet, but I thought I'd check if there's additional software that I need.
First of all I think GBPVR is a great program. I tested other software but I preferred GBPVR. So don't get me wrong, but one thing puzzles me: how come channel change on the mvp is slow (4 or 5 seconds) in GBPVR compared to for example sagetv (1 second)?
I have been having the same problems with the webadmin tools for some time, but haven't asked for help (so this isn't a new problem with the new version of gbpvr)
I can pull up the web interface on port 7647 without any problems, and can view what has been recorded, and changing settings as the admin user. However, I have a lot of problems using the search functionality and the tv guide. Using firefox, if I try to search for anything, I receive the following error:
Over the weekend, I upgraded to the 99.05 version of GBPVR. So far, I have been quite happy with the release. However, I have noticed that there was a big change with the copy of ffmpeg.
I am currently using the trans2mvp.bat script several of us discussed quite a few months ago to properly size the video on the mvp. For whatever reason, the transcoding done by the new ffmpeg is very low quality and pixelated.
For the meantime, I have replaced this copy of ffmpeg with the one included in the last install (as I backup the entire gbpvr directory before upgrading). This fixes my problem and the video is viewable quality again, but is probably not the best solution for this.
Does anyone know what has changed in ffmpeg that would affect the image so much? The script is posted in this thread, and has worked beautifully since I have put it in place:
I've noticed that the redrat.dll (for Redrat3 Irblaster channel changer) included in v0.99.5 seems downlevel to the one now supplied by Redrat. Unless GB-PVR needs this specific version, any chance this could be updated in the next release please. I've tried manually replacing the file but get this version mismatch error in the log:

03/01/2007 14:21:48.484 ERROR [7] Error changing to correct channel for recording: Could not load file or assembly 'RedRat, Version=1.17.1608.24395, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=ae0a3380d5973a3c' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
The latest version (1.23.2248.23689) is available as part of the Redrat software on their webpage.
The reason I ask it that I've had the occasional glitch in GB-PVR where it will send a double digit e.g. sending channel 101 will send 1101 and changes to channel 110 instead): The latest level might help (it does not seem to happen outside of GB-PVR).
Good thing is GBPVR can auto wakeup my machine for recording if machine is in hibernated mode at that time. Now I am using some external program to go back to hibernate after that recording is done. In that external problem, i have to manually set the time for hibernation. Usually from morning to evening I use my computer for my work, and recordings will done in the background. If i want to schedule recording in the night then I have to set that external program(setting the time) to hibernate my machine again after recording(that is little pain, If i forget to set that external program then my computer will be on for whole night). Is there any way that we can tell GBPVR to hibernate machine after recording if only it wakes up from hibernate mode? I can not use that "idle for some time" logic because in the morning also some times my machine will be idle.
I've just upgraded my GBPVR previously running on a SFF P3/1000 with 384MB of RAM and 40GB hd, to a towered Amd XP/2000+ with 1GB of RAM and 2x raid0-300GB array.
The gfx-card in the old SFF-box was a PCI Geforce4/MX 4000 with 64M I think.
For the new(ish) box I'm considering either a Geforce2 MX/400 with 32M of RAM or a Geforce4 Ti4200 with 64M, both of which are AGP-type. The GF2 is fanless, not sure of the GF4. Both have a S-Video outlet I can connect the TV too.
I see from benchmarks on eg THG that the GF4 is 2-4x faster in rendering stuff, but not sure if it makes any any difference when displaying on a TV at 800x600@32b.
Tried to search through the forums, but found only old posts saying that it is not possible.
So is it possible to assign a custom image for submenus ?
I want to group the plugins in logical groups e.g.
TV - here goes live tv, EPG,search guide
Info - news, youtube, weather ....
...
and I want to asign an image to appear when I select some of the submenus.
I am using latest version of GBPVR (downloaded yesterday .995) and community skin.
