Error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Posted by: slick911 - 2006-11-13, 07:27 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (3)

Hi,

I am getting the error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when pausing or pressing fwd/rew/skip while watching a show that is just being recorded.
To reproduce the problem: start recording something, then start watching the recording, then press pause or skip.
This appears to be caused by empty comskip files (while the show is being recorded).
I am attaching the log file.
This used to work until v0.98.13b.

Thanks.

  mythtv vs gbpvr

I just saw this on a linux list I'm on. Sent by a myth tv advocate:

"P.S. version 0.3.1 of mvpmc supports scheduling recordings from the mediamvp.
Pretty darn sweet!"

Need I say more? Big Grin

It shows a frame or two then freezes up.

Ability to temporarily disable pending recording
Posted by: gkar - 2006-11-13, 04:29 AM - Forum: Wishlist - Replies (3)

I would find it extremely useful to have a disable record button to a previously configured recording setup from within TV Guide.

Eg. I have a weekly recording from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (with post show padding) each Friday. Next Friday shows a once-off programme I would also like to view starting at 9.30pm.

If I could go into the recurring section in recordings, then click on the programme concerned button and see the following buttons:

Exit
Cancel
Disable
Update

I could disable the programme, then set up a manual recording for the entire two hours. At present, I am forced to discard the original one hour record, set up a manual record, then resetup a new weekly programme recording. Because if I don't do this, Comskip will cause the recording to miss a section between the two programmes.
And if the timing is not exact, then it will result in missing either the ending of the first show or the start of the second one.

Is it GBPVR that has a lock on MPEGImport Process?
Posted by: jksmurf - 2006-11-13, 02:40 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (6)

Sub,

I know this is partially plugin/utility related, but I'd really like to get the MPEGImport utility working again the way it used to i.e. both generate and import Recording-Dump.xml while GBPVR is running.

My glitch is explained here and the error repeated below. Basically MPEGImport used to be able to both generate and import the file of the shows in a particular dir, now it can generate the Recording-Dump.xml, but when the import task (in MPEGImport) is selected, the reproducible error below is produced:

Code:

The author explained why he thought there was a glitch which summarised, says "Tells me that some other process, possibly GBPVR itself, has a lock on the file".

If you get time (LOL) and this is a simple identification if it is indeed a GBPVR process , it'd be nice to have that utility work again. I currently use the utility to generate the xml and GBPVR's config "Import" button to import it, but this means starting config each time (no biggie, but it is a separate process).

Cheers,

k.

  No Live TV with MVP
Posted by: steeb - 2006-11-13, 12:04 AM - Forum: MVP & NMT - Replies (11)

Hi there,

I've been playing with v98.13 for a week or so now but on a bloated machine (also running other PVR software that I shall not mention Big Grin ), anyways after being very impressed with GBPVR I decided to do a clean XP build yesterday for the sole purpose of running GBPVR.

The server is running fine, channels mapped, TV and sound all there locally but I cannot get my Hauppauge MVP to show live TV (BTW very nice latest issue MVP with SPDIF out).

It connects via DHCP from my router, it finds the MVP server from GBPVR and I get the GBPVR menu screen. But if I choose the option of watching Live TV it goes to a black screen for 10 seconds, then returns to the GBPVR menu for 2 seconds before restarting the whole Hauppauge setup configuration and then returns to the GBPVR menu.

Currently I have set the live TV pre-delay @ 8000 in case that was the issue but makes no difference. I've searched the threads but may have missed something?

thanks in advance, STEEB

  wake on lan settings?
Posted by: turkey - 2006-11-12, 11:35 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (5)

i know this has nothing to do with gbpvr, but i am having a problem with setting up my gbpvr server to wake on lan. The server is a laptop running winxp, which was originally set up to run on a university network, so it had basically every security measure enabled. I set up the nic to allow wake on lan, and when i send the magic packet from another computer, the server does wake up, but it doesnt wake up completely. I have to go over to it, and press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse, and then the computer is fully awake. In this half-awake state, the power is fully on, but the monitor is blank. As soon as i touch a key, the monitor comes on, and all is back to normal.

My question is: could this possibly be a winxp thing, and what kind of setting can i change to get it to completely wake up? Could it be that windows isnt logging on? Thanks for any help!!!

Quirky Error when Pausing Live TV w/mouse
Posted by: schlabic - 2006-11-12, 08:46 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (1)

Hi,

I'd like to report a quirk I'm experiencing when pausing Live TV when pressing the "Pause" button while in Overlay (and only in Overlay). It results in the following: "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

The error does not occur when using Ctrl-Q to pause, nor does the error occur when using the mouse to click the "Pause" button after initially using Ctrl-Q one time. That seems pretty odd, but I'm just a layman at these things.

I first tried Ctrl-Q after searching for threads on this error and in one thread Sub suggested trying this. However, I haven't been able to find a solution.

If I'm missing something or someone has a suggestion, please let me know. Overlay is the only mode in which I have been able to get smooth video while watching full 1080 broadcasts. I'm using the Cyberlink video decoder. I also got an error when pausing last week when I first set my system up and was using PureVideo, although at that time I didn't know to try Ctrl-Q. Partly because of this, I decided to reformat my HD and reinstalled XP and etc over the weekend. PureVideo has not been installed since the re-formatting.

Attached find my .log files. Not sure which to post so I zipped all of them.

Rgds,

-Rod

  PC Client live TV stutter
Posted by: hotrodder - 2006-11-12, 07:55 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (10)

Hi guys. First off, BRILLIANT APP - most most useful and i for one am really greatful.

Now for my problem - only a slight problem. Im trying to setup a client / server setup using 98.13, watching TV across my wifi network im getting a lot of stutter / failing. Im moving to the client / server setup from my own setup using an additional network card and vlc, which i spent a fair bit of time debugging and found that often video bitrate over 1000 KBits per second was too much for my network (it's my household setup that is quite often used alot). Im not too concerned about the quality difference as I just use the setup to watch tv on my laptop whilst not in my room. Is it possible to set this lower, as it keeps defaulting back to 1500. I have looked for where the setting is stored so as I could change it manually. The main reason I want to move to this type of setup is because I have an external Sky box which is controlled by GBPVR and dont want to accidentally change channels during a recording - my old way changed channels outside of GBPVR, as the tuner will already be in use Im guessing this will stop it from changing channels. Its no real problem if i cant do this - ill just move back to my old setup.

Many thanks for any replies.

Very high CPU Load - cause by USB-UIRT driver?
Posted by: AssafR - 2006-11-12, 06:47 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (7)

I'm using the latest GBPVR version with an ATI Theater 550 and USBUIRT0056 .

Lately the GBPVR front-end program started behaving strangely, "eating up" all the available CPU and not responding. The high CPU load caused me to have to kill the process.

When using Process Explorer it said the CPU load came from somewhere in the USB-UIRT DLL. That's not necesserily an accurate pinpoint but it was a good place to start.

Disabling XMLTV and USBUIRT channel switching in the setup program indeed stopped the strange behaviour.
I re-installed the driver, re-instated the connection to USB-UIRT and for now it seems to work...

Don't know what to make of it - hope it helps other people too.
