need some help please. I have a sony vaio PCV-V1/G with build TV tuner. It came with a software called Giga Pocket. It worked at the beginning but now only the channel scanner works but can not watch TV.
Would like to switch to gbpvr. Could you tell me if this is at all possible for my computer. Could not find anywere the chipset used by my tuner.
Here's an update with some issues that I am seeking your assistance with. I have attached the .exe files below.
1. When I click on and run the gbpvr software from my computer (w. attached monitor) the software loads and reveals the main manu screen. When I click on the LIVE TV option, there is a small delay, but then the television channel (video) appears. However, it is backwards and upside down. Please advise.
2. When I view the television signal (from the computer & monitor) through to my television (the tv needs to be set to TV/Video Channel 3) in order to view the PVR channels that run through my tv card. However, the video is in the proper positioning (NOT upside down or Backwards), BUT I do not see or have any access to any of the GBPVR functions nor the PC functions on my television. It only shows the tv channel output from my tv card with no functionality. It's as if I am only watching television on my tv/video input. If I need to change the channel, I need to do it through my computer with attached monitor using my keyboard.
3. Back at the PC & Monitor, when I scroll my mouse to the lower part of the monitor (remember, no functionality through television, only outputs tv signal), to bring up the "Channel Up, Down, Pause" functions, the "Up/Down" buttons work (with some delay), but the "Pause" (time shift) button displays that it is "starting time shift," but then shows an error, "failure playing back file" which then doesn't allow me to "pause live television."
4. I setup and downloaded the "TV Guide" from Zap2It website, and I can scroll through the "TV Guide" from the main menu and schedule a recording (which turns red) in the grid, and creates a folder in my C: drive for recordings, but when clicking on "completed recorded shows," the file is created in the C: drive, but nothing records and file size is "0 kilobytes."
If you have any questions or need additional information, contact me. Thanks for taking the time to read through this post and helping me out.
Even as a newbie, I want to say that GBPVR is great. I never in my life donated to anyone for their efforts before!
For some reason after using this constantly within the last 2 weeks, and posting a couple of questions (that were answered/solved almost instantly) I started to feel guilty about not donating. I just wish I could have donated more.
I just want to say thanks to all that are involved and you have done a great job.
Hats off to Sub!
(ps. This was my 1st paypal payment as well)
I guess gbpvr broke me in, a couple of ways...
to post in an other thread. Praising the reliability of GB-PVR and the MVP.
At that very moment of time my wife turned off the MVP, and it seems that the recording service stopped. At that time one board was recording "Kobra" and the other was producing live TV. The tray showed that recordings was in progress but nothing was dumped to disk.
I have zipped and attached the logs, one thing that is a bit strange is the size of the recording service logs. After a reboot the recording service first produces a 1k log and after that a 0 byte log
Can a user have MVP choose between two GBPVR servers on same lan? There aren't in the online manual (I'm at work) http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/manuals/wmvp.pdf
I have a wired MVP which I haven't had time to even take out of the box. According tp the online manual for the wireless version (it is the only online manual I can find) it states: the wireless MediaMVP will detect that the LAN jack has been plugged in and will use a wired setup which only requires the selection of the MediaMVP Preferred Server.
Is that what I am looking for?
I know about Nvidia & newer drivers for older cards & I also know about using VMR9-custom due to the aspect bug with VRM7 & 9 so this isn't my question/problem.
I'm running GBPVR on an older PC 933mhz p3 with a 6200 pci card.
using VMR9 custom with hardware acceleration gives me a stable picture however when playing back recordings & DVDs the screen will flash green for a split second every few seconds.
CPU is around %65.
when I knock it down to overlay there are no problems & CPU is more like %50.
I'm assuming the PCI interface may be a bottleneck and also the CPU doesn't have the grunt for VMR9.
I originally purchased this card to use in an e-machine someone gave me that I had upgraded to a 1.2 ghz celeron but then someone gave me a 933mhz dell so I decided to use that instead.
Also, if I take out the 6200 PCI & put in a FX5200 AGP CPU usage goes down & as long as I have the display set to 720x480 I can run VMR-9 without any issues.
I assumed since the 6200 had hardware scaling & the fx5200 didn't(hence a needed resolution of 720x480) the 6200 would be better.
I also assumed the 6200 would have better TV-out. (I havn't actually tested this yet)
Did I assume wrong?
I'm, also using the purevideo decoder.
Also, i'm confused on what i'm giving up by going to overlay with the purevideo decoder.
I've read it's not as good as vmr. I can say i've noticed that the menu's & OSD don't seem as sharp but I didn't really see too much of a quality drop when video is playing.
If I choose overlay as prefered renderer in the purevideo settings am I no longer using hardware acceleration?
First of all, I'm quite new at gbpvr.
All user reactions gave me a nice impresion on gbpvr.
I have some strange behaviour however.
When trying to play a DVD (files or iso image), the video starts at the server.
I have no display or sound on the MVP.
When I start the client on the server, I have correct display.
Photos/music plays correct on the MVP
Any ideas?
My configuration:
Windows 2000 professional.
No firewall between server/MVP
Powerdvd 6
Files on Nas
GBPVR started with a user acount with read/write rights on NAS.
Daemon tools installed for iso mounting.
DVD Playback:
Navigator = Cyberlink DVD Navigator
Video Decoder = Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder
Audio Dcoder = Cyberlink Audio Decoder
Audio Renderer = ESS Maestro (audio card on server)
I have been playing with XDVD and it is a great plugin. However, I have a few ISO files that are of DVD's with multiple episodes of a series on them. In its normal state XDVD will only play one of them.
So, I have modified the batch file that is used to do the transcoding. The batch file concerned with ISO playback is playmvpdvdiso.bat and once modified the behaviour changes to allow you to select alternate titles to play from the dvd.
Firstly, you need to keep the original ISO image. However you may not now use a ) or a + sign in the file name - a compromise, but hopefully an acceptable one. Selecting this file from the plug in will still play it as normal, as will selecting any ISO that you do not want to play alternate titles on.
Next, for each title you want to explicitly specify you need to create a dummy file. It needs no content, it is the file name that is important. the file needs to be in the same folder as the original ISO and follows the following format titlenumber)file.iso - an example will make that clearer.
My original ISO is called series.iso
My dummy files will have the file names
1)series.iso and 2)series.iso
the numbers actually form part of the file name, they are not there as punctuation. They will appear in the XDVD file list, and you can select them then play them as you would expext. the file named 1)series.iso will trigger the playing of title one of the original ISO, similarly 2)series.iso will trigger title 2, and so on as you increment the numbers. Because the files need no content they can be zero bytes and so take up practically no extra space on your drive.
I would suggest including a 1)filename.iso even though title 1 will play anyway, since that will keep all of the titles listed together.
To install, make a copy of playmvpdvdiso.bat just in case you don't like my mod or it does not work for you, then copy the version in the zip file over the top of your existing one in the GBPVR folder.
Take a look at the code, make sure you are happy I am not setting you up to delete all of your work or worse(I'm not but you should always check code from strangers)
Create a couple of custom files and away you go, there is no need to re-start GBPVR.
Let me know how you get on. It works fine for me but I have only tested it on 2 machines. There is a bit of debugging code still there and commented out - leave it there until you are happy things are working - after that you can remove any line that starts ::
