MVP Load Application hint
Posted by: scott - 2006-08-25, 02:38 PM - Forum: MVP & NMT - No Replies

I've had trouble at the "loading application" stage after my MVP loses power. Sometimes it hangs for hours /days and I'd go for weeks of re-attempts without a working MVP...

I'm probably one of the least experience GBPVR guys here, but I wanted to offer this hint: turn off all other devises using your hub/switch.

I use a wireless devise ( hub or switch) through which my GBPVR server and MVP are hard-wired. The wireless devise is usually dealing with alot of traffice - in addition to one or two surfing laptops I also have a network attached hard drive with all my mucis files and at least one other machine running itunes pulling these music files.

Now, I think my MVP load application step was having trouble because of all this extra traffic going through the switch. I powered down the laptops and unplugged the NAT, and bingo - MVP now seems to load application like magic after having been "down" since end of world cup.

No other changes were made. It might be a fluke, but it's worth trying if you have this issue.

Not even basic PC client functionality, I give
Posted by: ApexHack - 2006-08-25, 02:18 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

Greetings and Salutations,

Still on 9608 with weather, myvideos plugins and a couple I don't remember.

I'm sure this will end up being my networking ineptness, but I just can't get GBPVR to work on the client at all. I see an hourglass for a bit then nothing.

When I look in the gbpvr.exe.log I see an error re: gbpvr.mdb that says

Quote:It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
I've tried like hell to take care of the last part and the first part I don't understand, well I understand, but in my days of researching this before today's implementation I saw no reference to any other modifications.

I think I've got my sharing all good. Can't I share just a directory w/o the whole, say, C: drive? I originally had just the devnz folder and subfolders set as full shared, with read only for sure unchecked. That wasn't helping so I went up and shared the whole damn drive. See, I mentioned I was inept.

I pretty much used the PC Client wiki to guide me, but I also read all of the threads I could find before hand.

My strategy was to use the server IP addy. Wondering if I should try to use names? I can't do the mapping since it's C on the server and I don't want to try that virtual drive thing I read about. And don't want to change the letter for fear of breaking apps.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the changes to logons after the net 1.1 install or who knows at this point. I've been messing with it too long now and I'm getting punchy.

I was most concerned about the server, but I checked it out after the changes and it was working just like before. Oh well, I'll just change everything back if I can't get this working I guess to be safe. Say if the IP addy changed for some whatever reason.

On a sidenote I don't quite understand why the client's config.xml file points to the server's recording service, and I'm assuming the reason I've got the tray icon. This bothers me a bit as I don't really want to be able to change the main config settings from the client.

Last thing. I'm kinda wishing I hadn't ventured into it now as all I really wanted was to view the show info associated with each file. My new lappy streams the native files super dooper. I guess I could try to get that dealie that will change file names to include info., but I'm afraid that it may not work with the old version I'm using, as with so many plugins and such I look at nowadays.

Anyhoo, thanks in advance for any advice anyone offers up.

No offense if I don't respond for a while. I've got to crash for a while. Well, maybe just one Futurama.

Cheers

Comprehensive List Of DVB Cards With Photos & in-depth tech info!!!
Posted by: CUS - 2006-08-25, 01:12 PM - Forum: Hardware - Replies (1)

....First post, so i'll just say a quick "Hi Folks!!!"

....I hope this proves useful for someone!.

While looking around for info on my new DVB-T, I stumbled across a webby...
...It's a HUGE list of DVB USB/PCI/pcicmcimia...er, those laptop cards, with "in-depth technical information" (chip numbers, .inf file lists), photo's of boards & chips (including USB type ripped open) and also the different badge names the hardware is sold under!.

(NOTE: will take a good while to load up if your'e still stuck on dialup due to amount of images...it's slow enough on 2mb!)

http://www.bttv-gallery.de

Also, if anyones looking for a CHEAPY CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! DVB!,
yesterday I bought a KWorld DVBT-USB 2 Digital Box TV BOX HDTV Ready
[Image: DVB-T300U_picture_001.jpg]
from Scan computers as it was (and still is! - 3 days now) in their TODAY ONLY offer section (groundhog day item?).
Amazon are selling this badged as V-Stream Xpert DTV-DVB for £51.95.....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0007...e&n=560798
Most other places are selling it between the £25-£35 area.....
I just bought this from Scans Today Only section for......(drumroll)....
KWorld DVBT-USB 2 Digital Box TV BOX HDTV Ready *Promo Exclusive* £13.99(+VAT) £16.44 (INC VAT)!
http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/

Sweeeet!

From the guff iv'e read, the hardware is good & works very well, but the software is pants! but I did know that before buying.
It does come suppied with BDA and WDM drivers so fingers and toes...and arms and legs.....and eyes crossed (still working on the ears) it'll work.
Although if it doesn't, all is not lost as I did have it working fine in Media portal.
EPG worked well and picture & sound was better than I expected although I didnt get round to trying record/pause etc.
But I really would love to use GBPVR instead.

Anyhooo, back to my query.
I'm really hoping to get this Kworld DVB working with GBPVR, and would be extremely grateful if somebody could help out please?.

I found this DVB listed on the site above with allsorts of info & data which will hopefully help someone crack this case, but it's gobbledygook to me unfortuantely as this is my first dealings with PC TV.

I also found out that the KWorld DVB-T 300U TV Box USB 2.0 is also sold as:
V-Stream Xpert DTV-DVB-T USB 2.0 Digital TV Terrestrial with Remote Control

So Im hoping someone can help out please?.
As I said, this is my first dealings with TV on a PC, and only got the DVB-T yesterday so i'm an Über n00b with all this!.
(but dont worry, Im not a puter noob....I wont assume you want to marry me if you ask me to go into the registry!.....course, I may consider it if you get GBPVR working for me hehehe!).

Thanks Gang!

Best Wishes,

CUS.

  Windows XP SP2
Posted by: folkboat - 2006-08-25, 12:40 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (5)

This might be a dumb question........so if it is - be kind.

I wil be reinstalling Windows SP1 on my GBPVR 97.9 system, its simply a reinstall with the currently installed drivers - the system runs well (replacing the primary hard drive).

Other than additional security is there any advantage to installing SP2 ??

Sharing Experiences with DVBT (UK), Zero Length Recordings etc
Posted by: melearp - 2006-08-25, 11:56 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I have had a GBPVR installation for about 6 months on a test basis and have been working towards having a server in the study with an MVP in the living/TV room. I wanted two tuners but have been testing with one, until four days ago when a second Hauppauge DVBT arrived. (Could have gone for a twin tuner but already had one, so..). At first I was plagued with zero length recordings and now I have eliminated them. Thought you might like to know how.

Firstly the set-up is:

Athlon 2700, 1.5GB mem, 200+400GB disk, XP SP2
Hauppauge DVBT (one 90002, one 90003) this proved a bit confusing
MVP
GBPVR 97.13 plus the patch from v0.97.13 survival guide
Cyberlink mux VERSION: 5.0.2022 (from Twinhan site)

I went round the houses trying to eliminate the zero length recording problem. It seemed random. About 50% of the recordings suffered the problem. I tried to see which tuner it was – not consistent. I read tons on the forums and tried loads of changes.

The fact that I have a 90002 and a 90003 added to the confusion. Do I call them both 90002, do I add a section to bda.ini for the 90003 and call it that, do I call them devices 1 or 1&2……????? In the end I called them both 90002 and devices 1&2. This appears to work on my system.

The latest Cyberlink mux helped a bit, but it was not a fix. In the end the problem was hardware. The 90002 model comes with a pass through aerial – that is the aerial feeds in to it and then daisy chains over to the next receiver via an external cable. The 90003 doesn’t have this. It only has an input and so has to be the end of the line. What I discovered was that the output of the 90002 is pathetic and so the 90003 was not able to tune to lots of channels. I replaced the daisy chain arrangement with a splitter. The splitter is not one of those cheap plastic jobs but a model that a helpful cable company engineer happened to leave when he visisted last year. This worked a treat and now everything works.

I can’t explain why the daisy chain arrangement resulted in some failed recordings on the 90002. Perhaps there was more than one problem and I fixed that along the way.

So my advice for any one in the UK trying to get multiple Hauppauge DVBT tuners to work is:

Get the latest mux.
Get 97.13 plus patch.
Set up any 90003 as though it were a 90002
Make sure your signals in to the cards are strong. Use a splitter and don’t daisy chain.

  Recording playback issues
Posted by: Freakitchen - 2006-08-25, 11:48 AM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (22)

Hi folks, wonder if anyone can help me with this strange problem.

A few days ago, I upgraded the processor and RAM in my computer to an AMD 4400+ Dual core, and 2GB respectively. Now, I'm not sure if this has caused the problem, but ever since I'm having really bad video stuttering with the playback of my recordings.

Live TV works fine, but on playing back any recordings with either Power DVD, Windows Media Player 10, or GPPVR itself, the video jumps from frame to frame after a few seconds of normal playback. The audio stays constant, however.

Here's the strange thing. The recorded files play back perfectly using Media Player Classic - downloaded as part of the 'Real Alternative' package!

This leads me to think its a codec issue - if Power DVD, WMP and GBPVR are having the same problems (can't figure out why classic works though). Having said that, I copied the files to another computer on my network, and had EXACTLY the same problems - stuttering video, yet fine with media player classic. GBPVR is not installed on this machine.

I should also say that MPEG recordings recorded previously play in all my media players without any issues.

Help is appreciated!

So guys,

Microsoft released finally a Release Candidate 1. I already downloaded and tested this one. One of my programs, which had compability problems with the BETA3 (Printing wasn't possible inside the program), now works.
But i couldn't test the compability with gb-pvr for now. If someone wants to, here's the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/down...fault.mspx

But Attention: Your Windows XP Installation will be validated and tested, i wouldn't try this with a non correct licensed Windows version.

  best way to use ubustream
Posted by: fuzzweed - 2006-08-25, 10:57 AM - Forum: Old Stuff (Legacy) - No Replies

i've just added the ubustream plugin as probably the best way to get UK radio through GBPVR (as my FM tuner and DVB-T radio are not currently natively supported), and was wondering if anyone had any tips on a way to set it up for best functionality.
Because it opens up an external player if I switch focus back to gbpvr (fullscreen) I loose sight, and so control, of the player. One solution would be to map alt+tab to one of the remote buttons - but i was wondering if anyone used this plugin regularly and had found any other tidy (high WAF!) methods of handling it.
***edit*** ok, had a go with my idea but GBPVR doesn't seem to allow the alt+tab or {switch(*task*)} commands to function correctly when mapped to a Hauppauge remote - so a simple question; if I'm playing a stream in real player and change focus to GBPVR, how do I get back to realplayer at all????

  Twinhan Vision DTV Sat-CI 1030A
Posted by: baff57 - 2006-08-25, 10:40 AM - Forum: Hardware - No Replies

Just want to protect others from making the same mistake as me.
I purchased the above card from DVB Direct about 3 months ago and upon reciept it would not work with my PC, the picture broke up or got no picture at all. I contacted Twinhan direct 2 times (not even an answer) by email.
I then contacted where i purchased from (DVB Direct) and that took 2 weeks to get an answer which after a couple more emails they agreed they would take it back for testing. I sent it back with proof of postage on the 18th July and to date i have not had it back and they just ignore my emails.
So dont buy Twinhan crap!!! and dont use DVB Direct (not even a phone number is given) again crap service!!
I have given up on my card and the money but had a great deal of pleasure of informing trading standards and my credit card company.
By the way i have used a Skystar 2 card (works grand, superb product) 100% quality signal and 87% signal strength. Big Grin
