Decreaseing the bitrate on an Mpeg 2
Posted by: Orbital - 2006-08-24, 07:46 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

How do you decrease the bitrate on an Mpeg 2. I record in High Mode using GB-PVR then use Nero Vision II to burn my dvd's. I have a few movies that are too large to fit on a DVD so I'm kinda in a bind. Nero Vission II has an option to Burn anywhere from High to Super Long play kinda like VCR's (EP/SP/LP). I set it for Super Long Play but it's still too Large. I'm off by .32 in size. I've trimed the video right up to the movie so I can't edit any more of the movie....

Does capturing in medium quality make a huge difference when your source is a VHS tape...... I'm thinking that would solve my file size issue when burning to DVD. As for now I need to find out how to shrink the movie to the correct size.

Thanks

Thanks again.

  CNN Videos Plugin
Posted by: HTPCGB - 2006-08-24, 05:07 PM - Forum: Community Announcements - Replies (6)

This plugin allows you to scan CNN's website for available news videos and then play them within GBPVR.

Requirements:
-.net 2.0
-windows media player 9 or higher

Installation:
1. Place the .dll in the plugins folder.
2. Copy the "CNN Videos" skin folder into the "Blue" skin directory.
3. Ensure that plugins are enabled in the GBPVR config app.

Known Limitations:
-does not work on the mediamvp

To do:
-make the media window look like a part of GBPVR/make it skinnable
-a settings menu to ajust the buffer size of the media window
-BBC video news support (Edit: this feature is now part of ubustream and will not be integrated into this plugin)
-time/date information for each item

Please post any bug reports in the related development thread.

Edit: Version 2 has been released to address some bugs.

Enjoy.

  EPG Update Problem with 0.97.13
Posted by: ksimmons - 2006-08-24, 04:58 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (18)

When I try to update the EPG I get listings for 2 days before and one hour after the update.

I reverted back to 0.95.11 (the latest version I had backed up) and updating the EPG works perfectly.

So I've been told this will (finaly) be shipping in the UK in the next couple of weeks

Anyone had any problems with this & gbpvr?

I know wireless is fine where I want it (can currently stream recordings with no problems to my laptop in the same location...)

  Creating a Video Popup Plug-in
Posted by: Jeff - 2006-08-24, 03:33 PM - Forum: Developers - Replies (4)

I am working on adding the ability for the weather plug-in to act as a video popup plug-in over playing video. It works except that I am trying to only overlay the bottom portion on the video screen but I get a blue cast to the upper portion as well even though I didn't draw any images or objects to that portion of my image. Do I need to do something special to indicate that that portion is transparent?

Thanks

Jeff

  channel changers
Posted by: Ted the Penguin - 2006-08-24, 02:41 PM - Forum: Forum Issues & Documentation - No Replies

I think there should be an addition to the wiki for serial channel changers, to make it easier for people to find them. I know one of the most popular boxes for this is the motorola DCT series, and someone has written a great changer program, here is the thread containing a download for it, etc...

  transcode VOB files to mpg2
Posted by: gingerneil - 2006-08-24, 02:35 PM - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (4)

This has probably been asked a million times, but I cant for the life of me find an answer in the forums...
I have several DVDs as .vob files on my PC. I would like to convert these to mpg2 to play on the MVP. Can anyone recommend a single-click bit of software to do this ? I dont want to have to demux etc etc if I dont have to.

  loosing databaseentries upon network loss
Posted by: Koenie - 2006-08-24, 02:25 PM - Forum: GB-PVR Support (legacy) - Replies (2)

I run GBPVR on a W2003 server and have the recordings directory as an UNC path. Whenever I lose network connection (a quick router reset is sufficient) GBPVR empties its database. This is due to W2003 not seeing its local network shares any longer when it sees no active network connection.

Has anyone an idea which windows setting (probably a security setting) can change this.

I have a second GBPVR "server" install on a standard XP machine and here this does not happen: after unplugging the network cable the local shares remain available.
