My aging Compaq Athlon2000xp (6410NX) is exhibiting intermittent problems.
NTLDR Missing message when powering up. OTOH if the box is left powered up for a while, than power is toggled Windows starts......... (as though the box needs to warm up).
It should be noted the box has been upgraded with:
- additional 256mb mem stick
- wireless NIC card
- PVR-150
- 80mb disk drive
- ATI 7000 video card
The box will run for days/weeks if left unattended.
Coupla theories.........aging power supply (200 watts)disk drive, cable........
Gremlins.
I plan to reload Windows/GBPVR drivers etc........however if the system has problems I'd like to fix them first.
Hi, I hope I'm in the right place. I am new and started to look at PVR/HTPC earlier this year. I was looking at Meedio - well they sold out and Yahoo are not very accommodating.
I just came accross GB PVR a few weeks ago and it seems what I may need.
I am in New Zealand and worry about some of the limitation of our TV services - but hey, let's see what I can do.
Can anyone confirm I have found a great treasure in GB PVR and suggest what minimum hardware specs I would need.
I have been having an odd problem as of lately. My MVP seems to have gone on the fritz; most of the time it will stay at the blue screen stating it is "Contacting the Server..." Rarely it will finally find/contact the server and load into the GBPVR menu, but that only happens after about 10 minutes of those lovely white boxes scrolling across the screen. However, if I start the Hauppauge services the MVP will load almost instantly. I have verified that everything is properly connected, DHCP on a Vonage linksys router is running fine and assigns the MVP an IP address. I used a packet sniffer and was able to verify that the computer and the MVP are communicating.
To throw another twist into this problem, the MVP will not load its dongle from the computer unless I have two MVP servers set to start in the config app. I only have one MVP hooked up to the system.
This is an out of the blue behavior for it, as I have never had any issues with it previously. Of course I have not installed anything new recently and the behavior is the same regardless of the firewall being enable or disabled.
I've attached the logs from this evening for any of those who know more about this than I do.
The skin that is the results of dozens of threads and hundreds of posts is now to the point where it is ready to be tested and released.

Most of the plugins have been converted over from BlueMCE2, Baseskin, Chameleon, and ideas from ContourHC. The default look right now is based off of BlueMCE2, with some changes. If you would like to help out with this effort, please download it and kick the tires. Tell us what you like and what you don't like. If you find errors, feel free to fix them if you can. If not, give feedback. With feedback, this skin can grow to fit the needs of most users and live up to the billing of a community skin.
Here is where you can find the test version of the skin: TestDownload
Also, if you have artistic skills and don't know the first thing about skinning, you can supply alternative images.
We have a sample set of images here to use as an example. Guidelines
You can supply a single button image, a background, or up to a whole set.
Alternative images will be used to construct themes and allow the user to change images using a plugin being co-developed with this skin. SkinPlugin

One last thing.
The name of the skin right now is just called "Community", but maybe someone can think of a better name. Other suggestions have been "Standard", "Imagination", and "Imagine". This is a community effort, so toss out suggestions.
The list of contributors in one form or another are:
Majority of early skinning:
McBainUK (skinning, plugin development)
MixMan (skinning, theme creator, BaseSkin/Advisor skin, early baseskin.xml method adopter)
Fatman_do (skinning, integrator of various skinning methods, Chameleon skin)
Alibert (Tv Listings skin)
Graphics support: (In process)
Dottore (Oliba, Sassari and MCE2)
Old Dog (AM/Collection/Plain Jane)
Tipstir (Too many to mention!)
Tieke (FlatBlue, HighVis, GreenOrb )
Torque (Contour)
KingArgyle/Darren E (Pirates)
Testers:
HTPCGB
Jeff (Weather, Video Archive, Music Player, Show Search)
(Note: This skin will change with new changes in gbpvr 98+. Gbpvr 98+ early testers will notice errors on a few plugins. System and Search are known issues. PM me instead of posting issues if you are a v98+ tester to keep pre-release info out of the public fourms.)
I am using the mayhem themepack. I have noticed that a few of my plug-ins do not show task images in the main menu, namely MusicLibrary2 and My Videos RC3.
I looked at the tutorials on the Wiki and tried to copy and rename an existing task image from the devnz\gbpvr\skin\BaseSkin\AllTaskImages folder to MusicLibrary2_task.png but to no avail.
Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good case for use in a living room. I have a big brute of a Silverstone case, and I want to rebuild my PVR so that it looks a little more sexier and sleeker. A case comparable to a standard DVD player or AMP would be great. I see some people use the ITX boards, but these seem to be underpowered. It also seems like a lot of the small cases have builtin PSUs that have very low power ratings. (<200W)
I have a MVP that when I connect to the LAN comes up with Little or no Connection. I am trying to use a direct connection with a crossover cable.
I know it isn't the Lan as I bought a new one in cae the old one wasn't working. From trying to get it set up I think I have messed thing up a bit. I think i need to know how to set up the netwirk connection to it some how. please help as I would like to get the PVR set up in the living room soon.
sub Wrote:This is really something you need to manage yourself. If you use the @time variable in a cached image, then it wont be updated. If you expect the user to use this variable, then you need to make sure that composite image is non-cached.
How do you make sure the image it not cached? I'm trying to use @time and @date but it never updates on the main menu or the built in plugins.
Somewhere outside <CompositeImage name="Background"...> and have it up date?
I'm trying to keep the time and date in the upper right and left corners on every screen/plugin. So the header is always the same except the Screenname/Title. It really helps give more feeling of uniformity.

Another advantage is I (we) can simply copy and paste the Title stuff from one XML to another and have it work, rather than mess around with the clock in VA on the main menu, builtin cock in the TVGuide etc..
Sorry to be a pest, the more I skin the more I wan't to tweek.
