If I were to buy a new PC for GB-PVR (but also use it occasionally for gaming too) are there any recommendations re CPU/motherboard? In particular I'm interested in value for money (i.e. not paying the premium for the absolute latest CPU)
I was thinking about dual-core too, i.e. to be able to run GB-PVR and play a game at the same time without affecting the recording. Would this be a valid assumption? Seems like the cost of dual core however takes the PC cost up to A$2000 however.
Just thought I'd post this for all MCE remote users, since I'd been struggling with HIP and IR blasters etc trying to solve a simple problem - adjusting volume on my AC3 receiver.
What I didn't know was that the MCE remote is programmable. You can teach it the commands from your receiver remote to adjust volume, and can teach it the power on/off from your TV remote as well.
The instructions are on page 7 of the manual (I don't believe I got a manual - so I downloaded one : http://oem.microsoft.com/static/Worldwid...Manual.pdf )
anyway - who reads a manual? especially a microsoft one? The first 100 pages are legalese.
If you can't download the manual, basically, hold down DVD MENU and OK together until the lights go off. Then press Vol+. Then aim your receiver remote at the MCE remote, and push Vol+ on that remote. Lights on MCE remote should blink twice. Done. repeat for other buttons.
I just rebooted my PVR PC after the windows update (but it won't have been rebooted for several days) and now it will not boot up properly. What I see is:
- reboot PC
- gives a "floppy device not found" error
- F1 to continue
- displays device information but then stops here, AND on the device information screen there's some weirdness with some of the letters on the screen disappearing (this is before it even gets to trying to start windows I think)
I can boot from CD drive and I've just booted using the Utimate Boot PC to run the memory tests in case it might be this. I was having memory issues before but I thought I'd fixed these (http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...tcount=40).
Anyway, any advice/trouble-shooting suggested would be great. It does seem to be a quite fundamental issue (hardware, BIOS corruption?, just guessing, hopefully not a virus?)
Help!
I have suddenly started getting an MS error message box when gbpvr starts. it is headed
"Could not create file map object"
and in the box it reads
"hook dll"
Don't think it is a gbpvr issue. Think it may be something to do with HIP which I am using for the Remote control. Anyway the remote doesn't work any more
I was fiddling around trying to make gb-pvr operate as the skin instead of explorer when this happened
Could someone confirm this - and tell me what the message might mean? It seems to stop the machine shutting down properly

I am using .9713 and noticed that MVP servers restart itself quite often during the day while I am not using it. I am using MVP tray icon and saw multiple icons in the tray when I got home. This possible caused by the MVP servers restart itself multiple times or the recording services restart itself. I don't see any one reports this behavior in this forum, so I want to see if anyone else beside me got this to find out the reason behind it.
I am also received more drop connection whenever I hit back/exit when I play video from MVP, but it reconnects after a few second.
I know there is an option to automatically transcode DVR-MS to MPEG2 in the configuration application. But can this be done from a transcode pop-up also? This works well, but I only want to transcode for writing to DVD.
Could it be as simple as adding a line to the config.xml
I normally watch TV with the volume set to about 25%. However, the MVP requires the TV volume to be set at about 80%. I already have the 'internal' MVP volume set to full. Any ideas why the sound output is so low ? Can it be corrected ?
Im looking into getting an hdtv card. I dont want to spend alot..I just want something simple that adds channels to gbpvr like how cable tv with a pvr 150 would do. Are there any hd cards that work without 3rd party software.
I am recieving it over the air in the us. Does anybody have tips on how to keep the signal good when splitting it 2 way? I guess an amplifier would be sufficient?
I plan on getting a sempron 64bit 2800+ ..Anyone have experience with these processors and gbpvr and even hdtv?
512 pc3200 mb of ram..Do you think more would be better?
Some random cheap case.. thats black..Around 30 bucks on newegg..Any recommendations.. I just dont want one with lights and windows and all that garbage..
Some motherboard with onboard audio...doesnt really matter
